Advent day 9

Day 9What an excellent day day 9 is in both calendars. In the Star Wars calendar we have our third mini-ship, an X-Wing, and once again it's a miniature masterpiece. The designer even managed to get R2-D2 into it!

Day 9In the City one, we have something unrelated to Christmas, or cops and robbers: an ice fisherman. What makes it so good is that it's a unique torso, which is only the fourth to be made in bright green and the hoodie only appears in one other set, the Winter Village Post Office. So overall he's a great figure!

C-3PO? Wasn't it R2-D2?

Posted by legomatt in United Kingdom, 09 Dec 2011 15:10

WOW! Even Luke couldn't squeeze 3P0 in. He just made do with his trusty astrodroid, R2-D2. ;o)

Agh, ninja'd by a split second... that'll teach me for saying something pithy.

I'm sure 3PO is now offended that you think he is blue not gold. ;)

Posted by legomatt in United Kingdom, 09 Dec 2011 15:13

Actually, if you look closely, you can see 3P0 peeking around the corner of the wings... :P

The X-Wing is excellent!
It's great that they can make such vehicles with so few parts. There was this Moc artist that did many mini ships along this line...Chris Deck. He's amazing with the micro creations. I wonder if Lego had him work on any of the Star Wars Advent. Check out his site... http://www.deckdesigns.de/
Oh, also C-3PO's not in the ship, the blue stud is meant to be an Astro-Mech Droid (like R2D2)

(blush) I wondered who'd be the first to spot my deliberate mistake :-)

Ice fisherman??? I thought it was a psycho with axe!!!

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 09 Dec 2011 15:25

I think maybe tomorrow's model gives a clue as to his real identity...

Unabomber?

the green minifig is the main reason i got the calendar

Best day so far in my opinion! I am really getting into both calendars!

I wondered what the blue stud was! I really like the ship, the detail is great for it's size.
I also like the green hooded man, just a shame he doesn't come with a toilet roll. :P (I wonder how long it will be until that joke gets old)

@fettcult, thats what I thought! Hes got a hood, hes smiling and got an axe, hes a seriel killer to me! Maybe the fire is to cook his next victim. Don't ask about the whip and fish...

X-wing is great. Initially I liked Slave-1 more, but I found a lot of fun to fly with X-wing instead. What is best about the X-wing model is tha fact, that it has perfect color scheme, posable S-foils, R2-D2 unit and everythin is made from 23 pieces only!

RE City Advent Calander

Nothing brings to mind the Joy of our Holy Saviors birth like a bunch of Criminals and policeman seeking their arrest and incarceration. Merry Christmas to all!

Posted by voypro in United States, 09 Dec 2011 17:30

On further reflection "is" this an ice fisherman? I mean, in keeping with the Criminals and Police theme, could it be a wandering Ax murderer?

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 09 Dec 2011 17:45

Yeah, nor is he related to toilet paper! HA HA HA HA HA!
BrickBob: I think they got old the first day they were told :P
The X-Wing is another cool set, and the SW Calender is turning out to be much better then I anticipated.

*Facepalm* :P Too many "axe murderer" comments here for a LEGO site... :P

@dixondog: Nope, it's just two stacked 1x1 bricks: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=7958-10

I love the X-wing, but I feel sort of sad because I think it's probably going to be the high-point of the calendar, only a third of the way into the month. Oh well, still my Holiday Exclusive Set Part II to look forward to on the 24th.

I just had this crazy idea. What if, like, the ice fisherman had, like, um, a Fishing Pole!:D I know, it's too much to ask, it's just some extra gizmo he doesn't need. He'll chop through the ice then stand around awkwardly as everyone stares. :D Maybe he'll get one tomorrow? X-Wing is cool too.

Even the most gentle people get driven to desperate measures during the toilet roll theft spree...

Hmmm...my theory about the SW advent calendar being 'chronological' (ie the models came in the order they were seen in the movies) is falling apart. Oh well.

Posted by Zach99 in United States, 10 Dec 2011 11:44

i am pretty happy with the x-wing model today as with most of the sw calender.

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 10 Dec 2011 21:19

^^ Wait, in II you can see an X-Wing fly by during the chase scene in the city! :P Maybe you're still right!
