Advent day 22

Day 22Another decent day in both calendars. They've done a good job on this A-Wing, there's nothing to dislike about it, and not much to say about it, either!

Day 22The snowmobile is OK as well, although identical in design to the orange one two days ago which shows a little lack of imagination, but I guess you can race the two of them round the snow track on the lid of the calendar now.

Two days to go, thank goodness, I'm running out of things to say about them!

The A-Wing is one of my favorite so far. The Snow Mobile is the biggest 'cop' out I've ever seen (Pun intended :P

Decent day, I like the design of the snowmobiles so I am OK with the fact that this one is identical to the other one. The A-wing is about as good as they are going to get it with so few pieces.

The A wing is a rather nice model and I like it a lot.

The snow mobiles ok and is good for tracking down lost toilet rolls.

"I'm running of of things to say!" Posting these at night really hurts your writing abilities.

It doesn't look as though the new sets are going to be out in the UK in time for Christmas this year does it? Still, we've still got our advent calendars to get our Lego fix!

@capnrex101: look forward to seeing you there. By the way, I read some of your series 6 minifig reviews earlier, they're really good and useful :)

@Thecahleyslasg

What?

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 22 Dec 2011 19:27

^yeah I don't really think that would realistic, with new themes being that parts being used from early Harry potter years( http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=973pb314c01 )

Also a theme which todays children, nevermind teenagers today would of never heard of the film, not that im saying I don't like it. But just that I find the likely hood of this theme occurring is very little, if we do not have any modern day media based or referencing it.

Not to mention that Lego already has a large bulk of licenses on their hands next year.

But then again it could be preliminary?

The criminal with the crowbar is running towards this snowmobile in my set-up. To race off with the axe murderer away from the fuzz. (yeah I said fuzz :P)

Disappointed with the snowmobile - that it's just a 'repaint' of the model from two days ago seems lazy to me. In fact, the City calendar has really lacked imagination this year, just the same 'cops & robbers' theme that's dominated the rest of the City line. What happened to the advent calendars of the past with roadworks or random stuff like airport security scanners or a tiny railway level crossing?

The A-Wing is pretty decent, one of the better mini models. Given that many of the iconic ships - Millennium Falcon, X-wing, TIE Fighter, Lambda-class Shuttle - have been done this year, what's left for next year's advent calendar?

Also, Lego Goonies? Fake.

Posted by LegosRfun in United States, 22 Dec 2011 20:57

@TheCahleySlash You think todays kids like or are interested in or possibly have even heard of Lord Of The Rings And Hobbit? Goonies is a much mre kid friendly and exciting movie than lord of the rings..

Posted by sarlacc98 in United Kingdom, 22 Dec 2011 21:05

I bet 9 out of ten kids have not seen goonies I for one have but only one other kid in my class has. So yeah fake. Also most of the liscensed legos are films that are out right now like cars Harry potter lord of the rings.

Posted by serviceburo in United States, 22 Dec 2011 22:08

@LegosRfun - Did you actually just claim that kids today won't have heard of Lord Of The Rings? Are you aware that the films grossed almost a BILLION dollars in the US alone? Not to mention that the books have been bestsellers for 50 years.

Goonies is 25 years old and hasn't had any licensed merch in at least 20 years. Please tell me how on Earth this would have more consumer appeal than LOTR?

Is there a way to remove a person from your own Brickset experience? like block them so none of their comments show up? :|

The City Calendar has been a HUGE disappointment... enough so that I may not purchase another one after this year. However, that has more to do with the 'Cops vs Robbers' theme than anything else.

I loved the Ice Fisherman, and the 2 snowmobiles (my boys love snowmobiles as much as I do), so they are a bonus as I have 2 boys and they FOUGHT over the first machine... Thank TLG for the 2nd one.

I will even give props to the Police station - it was a nice little build for a building... but it could have been better if it was a fish house.

TLG must do a better job next year, or I am done with them.

On another note, we bought a Kingdoms Advent Calendar (2010) off of Ebay to supplement the CITY AC this year (as we have 2 kids) - and this has been GREAT! We are loving all the pieces and builds thus far! Not sure what we will do next year...

For the A-Wing, their choice of using the white 2x1 single-studded plates for the tail fins is an interesting one in that I'm not quite sure what they're getting at here. If they were attempting to simulate the engines passing through the middle of the fins, one would think they'd have added some 1x1 smooth plates in red to better replicate the raised surface; as it is, it's hard to tell what they were trying to do here and it looks kind of strange, but it doesn't matter all that much.

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 23 Dec 2011 02:27

Lego would also not re use existing parts another example Mutts face(Indiana Jones) or Will Turners hair(POTC).

@LegosRfun
I read Lord of the rings when I was 8....as have almost all my friends I have today read the books at that age aswell.

And I think
@sarlacc98 and @serviceburo pretty much sum everything up.

I waited until after Christmas to pick up my SW Advent Calendar, knowing that: a) Target had a ton of them left to sell and would obviously mark them down; and 2) I wasn't in that big of a hurry to buy one. Sure enough, on the 26th, they were 15% off. Not a great markdown, but at that point I was ready to buy some LEGO.

Tonight I finally cracked the box open (one pocket at a time, of course) and assembled all the sets. And much as I wish I could complain about the A-Wing model, I can't... because I didn't get one. Instead, there was another Clone Pilot minifig.

I'm not sure, but I think the value of what I got in my box might be pretty close to the amount I paid for it. (Although I wish it had been the lame TIE Fighter that had been replaced instead of the A-Wing.)
