Advent day 24

  • Advent day 24

Posted by Huw, 24 Dec 2011 16:18. Filed under Advent countdown.

Day 24 Day 24Here we are then, Christmas Eve, and the windows of the Advent calendar are all now open!

We have a Santa in both today, so no surprise there. Santa Yoda is certainly very cool and the highlight of the calendar. I first saw him in January at the London Toy Fair and you may remember I tried to hide his identity but it wasn't long before it was revealed at another blog. I guess it was worth the 11 month wait to get my hands on him!

That concludes the Advent countdown, then. I didn't know if I'd continue it 24 days ago but I've just about managed it although on some days it's been a struggle to find things to write about the models. It was quite fun, though...

I predicted that December would be a quiet month for news and that's one reason I started the countdown, but I couldn't have been more wrong, could I: you'll surely remember that the biggest LEGO story of this millennium broke mid-month!

So, it's 9:30 here in the UK. Santa will be here soon so all that remains is for me to wish you all a Happy Christmas! I hope all your presents have that unique rattling sound when you shake them!

You're right about the rattling, my dad makes the same joke every year about having to get a replacement because it's 'broken' :)
Happy Christmas Huw, the rest of the Brickset team and the Bricksetters themselves!

Happy Christmas everyone!

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 24 Dec 2011 16:41

In my final summary of the calendars, The city one has been quite disappointing most days. However the Star Wars one on the vast majority of days has been superb.

I would like to say, Happy Christmas Brickset.

Happy Christmas everybody. I've got 8 rattlers to open tomorrow!!!!!!!

Merry Christmas everybody :-)

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 24 Dec 2011 17:10

Everyone seems to be saying it early, so I'll jump in: Merry Early Christmas! :P
@Huw: "biggest LEGO story of the millennium"? I don't know, I know the LotR franchise is big, but not as big as Star Wars. How about Doctor Who, then? :P

Posted by serviceburo in United States, 24 Dec 2011 17:13

@Alemas - Give it up on dissing LOTR already.

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 24 Dec 2011 17:13

^^ technically LEGO Star Wars started *last* millennium (1999) ;-)

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 24 Dec 2011 17:22

@bluemoose: Yeah, I know, but a deal for LEGO Doctor Who would be even bigger than LotR, if it's done this millennium. :P I don't think the LEGO LotR announcement is the biggest possible announcement, really. :P I would consider a LEGO Doctor Who announcement as even bigger than the LEGO LotR one. :P
@serviceburo: Never read the books or watched the movies, JSYK. :P

The santa Yoda is pretty Good (I would rather have something different) but Merry Christmas Eve everyone! (the Reason I said that is because; I was raised opening preasents on Christmas eve instead of Christmas Day so I don't have to wait for tomorow but I can't wait for tonight.)

Merry Christmas everybody!

I would like to echo DrDaveWatford's sentiment with regard to the advent countdown, thank you Huw, I enjoyed reading your comments almost as much as opening those little doors. It is the first time I have had an advent calendar in over 30 years and I very much hope to be repeating it next year.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 24 Dec 2011 18:42

I'm glad you all enjoyed it. Next year we apparently have 3 calendars: SW, City and Friends so I'll have my work cut out then!

Merry Christmas to you, Huw, and to the Lego-loving community that makes up this phenomenal website!
May the New Year prove to be a happy (LotR-filled) one for us all. :)

@Energyarrow - Being from the US you might think that, but in the UK Doctor Who is possibly the most popular TV show of all time and would be met with great excitement by everyone over here. I am not sure how well it would work in Lego though as I cannot think of many sets that could be made, it also would not be nearly as popular in other countries. In the UK there is no doubt that it would be a bigger announcement than Lord of the Rings.

Anyway, today I got:
10221 - Super Star Destroyer
6857 - The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape
6858 - Catwoman Catcycle City Chase
6860 - The Batcave
6862 - Superman vs. Power Armour Lex
6863 - Batwing Battle Over Gotham City
6864 - The Batmobile and the Two-Face Chase

Merry Christmas to all!

Posted by Krivorn in United States, 25 Dec 2011 22:10

i agree with everyone that Doctor Who Lego would be great.

Posted by giraffefreckles in United States, 25 Dec 2011 23:35

Merry Xmas everyone! I got no LEGOs from others (not a prob - i get most of what i want) but gave out Emerald Night, Spongebob Krusty Krab Adventures, Ice Dragon, and lots of useful brick separators! (Poor kids and parents -- no separators until now!)

Will consider a non-criminal, non-violent Advent calendar next year. I'm guessing that's the Friends one!

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 26 Dec 2011 05:41

A Doctor Who theme would be my second most wanted theme and it does atain a cult following in America attracting like 5/6 million on BBC america if I think.

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 26 Dec 2011 14:15

Only one set, City Corner. Worth it.

Well... I did get a small Kingdoms set and two CM5s

Posted by The Reviewer in United States, 26 Dec 2011 14:31

Oh yeah? Well I was gone on all day on Christmas (I was at Disneyland) and I got the Black pearl, Sith infeltrator, the Naboo starfighter, and The BEST SET EVER: THE DEATH STAR!

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 26 Dec 2011 15:39

^ I think I just fainted :P I've dreamed of getting that set ever since it came out, but never had to heart to get it.

Posted by Jay Kenobi ZX in United States, 26 Dec 2011 16:40

I didn't get that many LEGOs this year, most of my presents were made up of accessories for the iPhone and Nintendo 3DS my parents got me..... However I do plan to write reviews for the sets I got, and I hope to have pictures in the review, but my cameras are not the best...
