Troopers are no longer faceless

Troopers from 9489 Battle PackAfter 13 years of making various kinds of troopers, LEGO has decided to print faces on their heads.

This pair is from 9489, the new Endor Rebel Trooper and Imperial Trooper battle pack. The TIE fighter pilot in the Planet set has the same head so it looks as if all imperial troops will be printed this way from now on.

Those new Stormtroopers are awesome.

at last no mysterious black heads

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 27 Dec 2011 15:01

So we finally know that stormtroopers in the Star Wars universe aren't faceless! :P

Posted by bodybomb3 in United Kingdom, 27 Dec 2011 15:14

Thanks for the mention, I'll try to keep on finding good news for you to report :)

I love these new heads! All of the figures are brilliant from these new sets.

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 27 Dec 2011 15:42

Is that the only difference with the storm troopers from the last version?

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 27 Dec 2011 16:06

So all the storm troopers are going to have evil grins and a five a clock shadow for now on?

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 27 Dec 2011 16:11

@TheCahleySlash: "Five o'clock shadow"?! :P

Posted by durins in United States, 27 Dec 2011 16:14

I like the change! I'd definitely want to see more than just one standard head, though. There's nothing to say the Ep IV-VI troops are clones. Some of the Marvel comics back in the had them very much as individuals.

Those heads look much better. Why didn't hey do this earlier. Big question, is it worth £2 more for greater detail?

Posted by Paco the Duck Ninja in United States, 27 Dec 2011 16:40

Actually, the old Scout Troopers used to have yellow heads with a black pattern that, when aligned with the helmet right, covered any yellow.

Here's the old head: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3626bpse (There was also a similar head they used for Jango Fett in 2002's Slave I)

I'm definantly glad they're returned to doing this.

Well it's about time!

Posted by schvatts in United States, 27 Dec 2011 16:57

It is great news and a very welcome detail..... it is just going to suck changing over the current set of troopers. The Bricklink price will be high for those.

Posted by legobuilderstudios in United Kingdom, 27 Dec 2011 17:28

Looks promising! But will Lego keep it up in the years to come? Anyhow, new stormtrooper print? Looks like I will have to start my imperial army over again...

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 27 Dec 2011 17:32

Great, now the Scout Troopers are unrealistic. At least on the Clones/Stormtroopers it doesn't matter.

This immediately reminded me of this:

@jonbuddy: You could always just turn the head around... :)

@TooMuchLEGO, fair point. And to the link: LOL!

Posted by Orthobotrex in Philippines, 27 Dec 2011 20:14

Yep...definitely have to start with a fresh set of troopers.

Posted by matau2004 in United States, 27 Dec 2011 21:37

cool cant wait to get one

Posted by bandana-joe in Singapore, 27 Dec 2011 21:50

These sets are awsome. The only problem I have are those other guys who aren't stormtroopers. Whatever they're called :P

It was time for a change. Love it.

Ah man,This what Lego keeps doing. they keep making the minifigs look more glossy and kidsy. I hate the New Boba Fett and the New C-3po coming in 2012, but I hope they keep the Stormtroopers outside apearence the same.(I guess the new heads are okay, but I don't reallly care)

Posted by Clone Commander Colt in United States, 28 Dec 2011 01:06

They look better without the 5 o'clock shadow. If you have the nook color, you can see the face without that beard.

Posted by AddictedToStyrene in Australia, 28 Dec 2011 02:56

I don't like them, but I am very happy that Lego is printing on pieces. Perhaps they will continue printing on blocks and do away with stickers.

Posted by bellybutton290 in United Kingdom, 28 Dec 2011 04:37

Why is this needed? stormtroopers never take their helmets off and where supposed to be faceless enemies the scout trooper looks terrible now and lego gets to drive the price up.

Posted by voypro in United States, 28 Dec 2011 07:08

I too am from the "don't want to see under any mask" school of thought. Worse thing to happen to Star Wars saga was the humanization of the faceless enemy, with Boba Fett begin the perfect example. Lucas lost his mind thinking he needed to explain that which did not need to be explained.

Posted by Plasmodium in United Kingdom, 28 Dec 2011 08:23

Well, I like it. What annoyed me the most was when we had a stormtrooper who had a plain yellow head! He didn't have the Ep.III hole-for-a-visor, so I wondered why they didn't at least print a smiley or something! (He was in an Endor set, I think...)

Posted by type_writer in United States, 28 Dec 2011 08:52

well im okay with the stormtrooper but the scout trooper looks just wrong!!!!!!

Posted by Jay Kenobi ZX in United States, 28 Dec 2011 11:10

It's not so bad for me; I only have two Stormtroopers anyways (surprisingly), and they are both from different time periods (1999 and 2008). The majority of my LEGO Star Wars minifigs are actually Jedi....

Posted by Clone Commander Colt in United States, 28 Dec 2011 11:39

Um, you could just turn the head around like you do to Jango Fett.

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 28 Dec 2011 11:49

C'MON GUYS, JUST TURN THE HEAD AROUND! :P

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 28 Dec 2011 11:55

@Everyone worried about the scout trooper - Just like the Jango Fett figure from 2002 you have to reverse the head to fill in the visor with black, it is not complicated!
