New feature: Minfigs

  • New feature: Minfigs

Look carefully on the set details pages and you'll spot a new feature, brought to you in association with BrickLink. Under the set image you'll see a list of all minifigs in the set. Click on one to see all sets it has appeared in.

Watch this space for more exciting minifig-related features I'll be adding over the coming weeks...

Great Idea. This will be great to view details on new figs from sets you don't have.
Thanks for the new feature Huw!

It will go great with the New site design.

We had minifig info for some sets in a previous version of Brickset, but it was very incomplete & difficult to maintain.

Thanks for bringing it back Huw, in a much more complete & useful implementation - reusing existing information (i.e. Bricklink's database) is exactly what the 'net should be all about :-)

I like that feature!

Absolutely wonderful, for a collector like myself that collects both sets and minifigs this makes it simple to keep track of it all. Another reason to add Brickset as one of the number one sites for LEGO. Keep up the wonderful work!

@bluemoose, you have a good memory! Yes we did have that feature back in c. 2002 or so but as you say it was a PITA to maintain.

Eventually you'll be able to track your minifig collection here in exactly the same way as you can sets, but that won't be for a while as there's a lot of code to be written yet. Your collection will automatically be populated based on the sets you own and you'll be able to see which ones you're missing in a particular theme or subtheme like you can sets.

This is great! How it is much easier to find out exactly what minifig belongs to what. Now I can find them alot easier than browsing on bricklink. Nice use of a feature!

Awesome! We all thank you HUW and Bricklink! This feature will be amazing!!!!!!!!

Posted by starwarsgeek101 in United States, 15 Feb 2009 12:09

Woo HOO!!! I am so Happy!!! Maybe (Just a suggestion) that while you are adding your features to the minifigs page(s), that you can put a feature for us to track all of our minifigs, even if we don't own the entire set. But still, GREAT WORK!!!

That is really an awesome idea. Nice job, guys.

Very cool! Now if somebody wants a particular fig for their collection, they know what sets to get! SWEET!

I do especially like & appreciate the 'Buy at Bricklink' link at the top right :-)

This is a very helpful addition to the site thank you very much HUW.

YES! incredibly awesome it makes up for all the pics of the figs LEGO is lacking!

This is one of the sites best features, good work and a big thanks to bricklink. I can't wait to see what they will think of next.

Why does some sets like Cannon Battle have 4 figs listed but it has 2 only ?

Posted by longtowner in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2009 07:53

Excellent! I like the 'buy at Bricklink' tab too - it's been a long time coming. Great partnership.

Posted by vezon8764 in United States, 16 Feb 2009 22:42

Here's a good question: what's the point? If you can see all the figures in the set picture, then how come you need this? And how can this help enhance your Brickset experience?

Posted by Mr.Wampa in United States, 17 Feb 2009 00:50

vezon8764, becouse you might have bought minifigs in lots on ebay or somthing. So in the end it will help.

Great job Huw! Smart and well thought out feature. Excellent idea and implementation of that idea. This lets us zoom in on just the minifigs, which is why some of us buy the sets! I know I bought the Harley Batman set for the Harley minifig and I am sure others have done the same.

Thanks everyone for your comments. In response to some of them:

> Why does some sets like Cannon Battle have 4 figs listed but it has 2 only ?

At BrickLink some sets have 'regular' and 'alternate' parts. In the case of minifigs it could be that a different head is used in a later production run so BrickLink indicates this as an alternate part. The Cannon Battle figures appear to have their heads swapped; perhaps it's not clear in the instructions which one is supposed to be used on which torso.

My code isn't yet distinguishing alternate parts so I think I'll change it later to not show them to save confusion.

> Here's a good question: what's the point? If you can see all the figures in the set picture,

You can't usually see all the figs in detail and if you're a minifig collector it's important to see exactly which figures are in the set.

I'll be trickling out a couple of new minifig features over the next few days to make it even more useful, so keep your eye out :-)

Posted by legoC&C in United States, 17 Feb 2009 23:45

cool.

Posted by littlelegoluke in United States, 18 Feb 2009 18:24

Huw could you make it so you can search the minifigs through the search bar?

Posted by Huffy1968 in United Kingdom, 20 Feb 2009 19:14

Huw great system and well implemented, but could it be possible to include an option to minimise it or turn it off as a personal preference? This of course is coming from someone who at the moment has an entirely fig-free Lego collection... :-)

Posted by nath8888 in United States, 22 Feb 2009 11:21

Wow. I don't think I could live without figs. I just did a census, and I have 567 figs. :-)

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 22 Feb 2009 14:33

I think figs are an essential part of Lego. Without them, Lego would be absolutely pointless.
