LEGO Minecraft!Just had word that there's going to be a special unveiling of the third Cuusoo model, 21102 LEGO Minecraft Micro World, at a LEGO CUUSOO and Mojang special event as part of LEGO World Copenhagen next week, on the 15th Feb.

Unfortunately I won't be able to get there but I'm sure we'll see pictures online shortly afterwards.

I think there will be a lot of people itching to see what TLG have come up with!

Im not a fan of Minecraft but I cant wait too see how they have translated the game idea into physical form.

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 09 Feb 2012 08:34

Wow, that was quick! Judging by the name I'm guessing it will involve micro-scale building which could make an interesting change to other sets 'system' sized sets. Intrigued....

Posted by Purno in Netherlands, 09 Feb 2012 08:36

I'm not into Minecraft, but perhaps it'll be good for an interesting LEGO set. Curious to see what LEGO comes up with :P

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 09 Feb 2012 08:36

Can't wait to see!

Posted by just2good in United States, 09 Feb 2012 08:37

I'm really looking forward to seeing it!

Posted by PaulTR in United States, 09 Feb 2012 09:18

I'm curious to see what it'll look like, but beyond that, my interest in the project is nil :/

Posted by serviceburo in United States, 09 Feb 2012 09:48

I'll just buy a brick bucket for $30 and get basically the same thing.

Posted by theBrickBlogger in United States, 09 Feb 2012 09:53

Huw, I'm very curious about this too! Just one note; according to the email I got the unvailing of LEGO Mincraft happens on the 16th, not the 15th as you posted. Here is the email I got:

I am dying to see what they look like. I'm hoping from the name 'Micro World' that means it will either be in Micro figure scale, or in regular scale, just lots of different environments. Both of which sound awesome. I'm really looking forward to what these look like.

Posted by KillDeer in Canada, 09 Feb 2012 10:54

I'll look forward to being embarrassed.

Posted by Markey in Belgium, 09 Feb 2012 10:55

That's been quite a quick turnaround! Im not really interested in the set, but it's good to hear LEGO stands by the Cuusoo project and see it go ahead :)

I'll post here as soon as I get pic's:

I might just get it for the novelty of a CUUSOO set...
Sounds interesting! can't wait for that pictures

I'm very surprised that they've so quickly developed it, given how recent the confirmation announcement was. I admit I have a bad feeling about said apparent haste - translating Minecraft to an effective physical LEGO form doesn't strike me as an easy task, so for it to be already at the point of being exhibitable at an industry function may mean it was quickly slapped together without much regard for it being a creative or effective tie-in? I might be leaping to conclusions here - I really want this product to be a worthwhile joint effort, much as I hope for the best of pretty much any LEGO effort, so I guess that makes me more worrisome about potential signs that it isn't going to live up to its potential.

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 09 Feb 2012 12:59

While I shouldn't say anything before I've actually seen what they've come up with, my gut feeling tells me this could easily end up being a flop. Just like LEGO isn't as exciting to build in digital form (using LDD for example), I can't imagine those who love Minecraft thinking that "real" blocks are as exciting as playing the game.

Posted by wunztwice in United States, 09 Feb 2012 13:00

I am prepared for a bucket of bricks with a license strapped on...

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 09 Feb 2012 13:05

ugh.

Posted by legoguysw in United Kingdom, 09 Feb 2012 13:17

I'm fairly optimistic. Hopefully it'll be more unique than just some blocks arranged in a vaguely Minecraftian shape, perhaps we'll get printed Steve and/or Creeper minifigs. The other CUUSOO sets look well thought out out and unique, so I don't see why this can't be the same.

Posted by legobucket in Canada, 09 Feb 2012 13:35

At Best:
1) they bring out old modulex molds (recall that modulex bricks have an M instead of an L on the stud, perfect for Minecraft) in green, blue, gray, brown and tan to create a simple minecraft scene
2) they produce a batch of printed 2x2 bricks with mineCraft textures on the sides

I highly doubt the above, but you never know

At worst:
a regular batch of 2x2 bricks depicting a minecraft scene similar to the cuusoo minecraft submission

This is when we find out whether or not votes actually translate into purchases. I have the feeling a lot of people didn't consider the ramifications here, financially for TLG, equating the Cuusoo 'Support' button to the Facebook 'Like' button, in that it shows your support but beyond that there's not much to it. On the contrary, where 'Like' is ultimately meaningless, 'Support' is directly used to gauge whether or not people will actually buy the end-result product. I'm trepidatious, to say the least, to see where this goes.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 09 Feb 2012 15:55

Will you be able to get this set in the NA market?

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 09 Feb 2012 16:12

TLG aren't stupid. They're not going to release something that they think has no market, or without researching whether it would sell. They're a company after all, and will only do something if there's a profit to be made (ok so lego universe shows this is now without its flaws). The cuusoo program in no way 'forced' them to release something that would lose them money. If they hadn't seen potential in whatever idea they've come up with incorporating minecraft, it wouldn't have got to this stage.

We believe in you TLG!

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 09 Feb 2012 16:27

So on Feb. 15, redundancy will be rampant.

Posted by voypro in United States, 09 Feb 2012 16:29

@Andhe

It is not just how it will sell that TLG considers. and i know this is different but, if making money was their only concern, they would do a holiday nativity scene.

Posted by starshapebricks in United States, 09 Feb 2012 16:32

well, it's already been leaked. I still don't get it though

(it's a joke guys, ha ha)

Posted by swlego@hf in United States, 09 Feb 2012 16:46

I think this is a great idea, and hope they continue it with other games. Maybe sometime in the future we'll see Lego Angry Birds...haha.

Posted by Rockman Xtreme in United States, 09 Feb 2012 16:52

It's a licensed theme, Mojang is a develepor of minecraft or something like that... :)

Posted by Rockman Xtreme in United States, 09 Feb 2012 16:53

@swlego@hf Angry Birds liscence just got bought by mega blox, LOL. :(

Posted by platinum805 in United States, 09 Feb 2012 17:02

im a minecraft freak, and i feel like the world has come to order

Posted by legofanatic2414 in United States, 09 Feb 2012 17:11

This is the first time LEGO has made a new theme from a video game isn't it? All we need now is a Zelda theme and my son and I would be ecstatic!

Posted by mysteriouspi in United States, 09 Feb 2012 18:04

Let's not deride the product before it comes to light. I've played the game myself, and it's fun as long as you aren't on it for hours on end. I think LEGO is perfectly capable of making a worthwhile Minecraft set, and I look forward to seeing what they created.

Posted by odindusk in United States, 09 Feb 2012 18:14

Can't wait for this to release and sell approximately 17 sets.

Every Minecraft fan I know is the stereotypical, pessimistic computer gamer who pirates everything and lives off of Hot Pockets. Surely they won't pay for LEGO.

/halfsarcasm

Posted by hewman in Australia, 09 Feb 2012 18:52

Given how quickly they've been able to put this together, I'm very sceptical about the level of interest this will hold for regular Lego fans. However, I'll be happy to eat my words if they've done something innoavtive with this.

Posted by legomaniac in United States, 09 Feb 2012 20:42

I hope it will bring in some new LEGO fans. I think that is LEGOs plan.

Posted by Gandalf1 in United States, 09 Feb 2012 21:21

I look forward to seeing what the model looks like. Oh, I see it's added to the database.

Posted by Balthazar Brannigan in United States, 09 Feb 2012 21:34

I look forward to this being unveiled. Despite the criticism it's received from the exclusively Lego community, most of the people I know who play Minecraft loved Legos at some point in their lives and still do, if not actively. I'm choosing to be cautiously optimistic.

Posted by JaseTJ in United States, 09 Feb 2012 22:30

With the addition of that one word... ('micro') ...this just got so much better imo.

Posted by kartoffelviking in Australia, 10 Feb 2012 06:12

I guess TLG realises that just about as quickly as the Minecraft project gathered 10000 supporters, they will disappear, hence the speed at getting something out there before interest fades.

I'm curious what they've come up with, though.

Posted by Joefish in United Kingdom, 10 Feb 2012 06:14

@JaseTJ - You mean, it's going to be a box of 1x1 bricks in tan, brown and green instead of 2x2?

Posted by Purno in Netherlands, 10 Feb 2012 09:28

@Joefish, I'd buy that. 1x1 bricks are useful parts for non-Minecraft MOCs :P

Posted by EliteLeader99/brickboy2 in United States, 11 Feb 2012 22:09

Wow. Now Lego MineCraft? What will they think of next? :)

Posted by vistuk in Slovakia, 15 Feb 2012 10:35

no 15th feb but 16th feb

Posted by PopehatXI in United States, 16 Feb 2012 17:43

I really didn't want to be disappointed by this, but the words "set" (not theme) and "micro" set the stage for what happened. I wanted a Minecraft theme with real Mini Figure sized creepers and Steves, I would have been one of those people who owned all the Minecraft sets... but I know I will not be purchasing this one set. Oh well...
