German toy fair images and video

Queen AmidalaThere seems to be a lot of pictures and images surfacing this week from the German toy fair. I'm not sure why it's taken so long for them to do so though!

    Anyway,

    - Hothbricks has pictures of many Star Wars sets, including of Queen Amidala (left) and Jabba's Palace.

    - TechnicBricks has dissected a video of the Technic sets, including the tractor, helicopter and remote-controlled car, looking for new pieces and features.

    - Smashing Bricks has rounded up most of the videos, including Friends, Ninjago and Monster Fighters.

The New York toy fair opens on Sunday and there'll be several of the major sites covering it so we are bound to get some better photos of the sets that matter, and actually taken by AFOLs as opposed to the press, which seems to be the case for most of the German ones.

Brickset won't be the best place to see the images first but I'll try and keep up and post links to them as they are published.

Jabba's Palace looks awesome!

^^ Working fine for me, it's a French site.

Those are all looking excellent. I must say, I hadn't been at all excited about the skiff set, but now...
Is it just me, or are Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's lightsabers switched in the Gungan sub set?

Posted by Mighty Wanderer in United States, 10 Feb 2012 12:10

HothBricks is working for me, but Smashing Bricks has videos of most of the mid-2012 sets. The sets that really caught my eye were the Monster Fighters. Finally Lego is going to be making more glow-in-the-dark pieces (and lots of them) in the Monster Fighters sets, and every single set in that line is going to have some "special function" (from trap-doors to net-launchers to flapping wings :P ).
Ninjago also looks really cool, especially the Ultra Sonic Raider. I'm also wondering if the giant snake is the "Great Devourer" from the Ninjago T.V. series.

a nice place to find fast pics of toyfair is toyark.com

The Sarlacc pit is nice and big and Boba Fett has printed pants!

The Gungan Sub looks fantastic.

Still no Lord of the Rings close ups...

Leia in Boush!!!!

These Monster catcher sets seem like the best thought out and most creative. I am very impressed by all the play features and by the sets in general. And in a way, what is really good is that none of us even knew this line was going to come! Nice to have no leaks for a change!!

Seems like the ghosts have a slightly modified mold.. Very nice, need a few more of those! Shame that the figures in general seem near-identical to their collectable counterparts...though, there are quite a lot of new ones coming out too.

And Amidala is very well made, but why is she in that set?! What's up with Lego putting ultra-collectable figures in with ultra-irrelevant sets? ;)

I'm going to be controversial and say I do not like the look of the Amidala bottom half. I would have preferred that they kept the old style dress shape. That will not fit on my minifig display board! :-(
Hopefully I'll be able to fit her in without it looking too out of place!

Posted by Plasmodium in United Kingdom, 10 Feb 2012 13:49

@xcrossx, I think I agree, too. It somehow doesn't look 'Lego', if you see what I mean; especially not if it's gonna be Chinese plastic. It wouldn't match properly.

^^ If either of you wants the sub I will happily take the figure off your hands. I really don't want the sub and I would hate to have to buy the whole set just for the fig.

Posted by el_rey95 in United States, 10 Feb 2012 14:29

^^ Welcome to Lego collecting. Buy a set you don't want for the minfigs and part it out, or go on Bricklink and buy the minifig for $15. Either way this is the best hobby ever!

Posted by xcrossx in United Kingdom, 10 Feb 2012 14:50

Haha, now I didn't say I didn't want her! ;-).
I also have no interest in the sets what so ever. Minifigs are the way to go!

I must say I like the Amidala Fig. Her dresses in the movie are WAY too complex for a traditional dress slope to do them justice. Jabba is also awsome (he is just about the ugliest creature I have ever seen Lego make... which is quite fitting considering He is a Hutt), along with his palace. The Exterior is spot on. The Bongo itself is MUCH sleeker than last tiime (over 12 years ago I believe). The Desert skiff is very nice as well. I must say I am pleased. The Monster sets also look interesting, I will have to keep an eye on them. I want to see LOTR sets soon. The NY toy fair should shed light on them however.

By the way, the Minifigs may be awesome, but the sets are what make Lego REALLY interesting.

Anyone who wants some good comedy should watch the youtube video at the above hothbricks link... The guy who does the video is clueless about Star Wars.. He calls Jabba, "jaboo", I think because just moments before he is introduced to the name of the planet.. Naboo.

Then he goes on to call Endor "indoor"

It's like some non-Star Trek person calling Mr Spock, Dr. Spock. ... just tragically humorous.

Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=VTLlfvgizZU

("Jaboo" is at 2:16 and the "Indoor Battle Pack" is at 2:40)

^^ LOL!!!! indoor ENDOR IS INDOORS NOW!!!

Monster look great. Kind of like the 'Studios' line from around ten years ago but better.

THEY FINALLY GOT PADAWAN OBI-WAN RIGHT! This next 2012 wave is definately going to make up the bulk of my birthday and Christmas wish list!

The Ninjago vehicle with tank tracks and rear center wheels:
Are the tracks brown? could be black but they always look brown to me.

Jabba's palace is fantiastic

Posted by Plasmodium in United Kingdom, 11 Feb 2012 03:09

@xcrossx: Agreed again! I'll keep the minifig if I ever get the sub! I'm just ... pointlessly complaining :P.

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 11 Feb 2012 04:33

I really love jabba's palace but there's no way its worth the price so i'll have to pass. It's so anoying when you want the cameraman to film a certain set for just a bit longer and he moves onto something else!!! The dracula monster fighter castle is awesome too - i'd say in design, it's better than King's castle seige! I think the moster fighter theme in general has grown on me :)

Queen Amidala looks amazing! But I have to decide either to buy the Gungan sub, or the desert skiff.

Posted by Bobszaar in United States, 11 Feb 2012 07:47

Great for almost everything, but I feel a bit disappointed by the Gungan Sub; it just doesn't seem to be a great improvement to me. The Skiff may be the best one.

Awesome Ninjago sets! the green ninja looks awesome!

Posted by goengar in United States, 11 Feb 2012 17:25

Jabba's Palace is awesome!!! But who is going to buy it for over $100?

Posted by Carl in New Zealand, 11 Feb 2012 18:04

kinda disappointed that Jabba's Palace doesn't include the Rancor and Rancor Pit, and instead just goes for a small cage-ish thing. but i guess thats what happens when LEGO makes 9 amazing minifigs and a set that looks to be a great improvement on the first version of the set

Posted by Yoda 56 in United States, 11 Feb 2012 23:02

Jabba's Palace is the best Star Wars set in a while I think, so many new minifigures! That Queen Amidala minifigure is very cool too!
