    It's a busy day for press releases! Here's the official announcement of the Town Hall (at last!)

    Keep the wheels of commerce turning with the authentic Town Hall!

    This classic 3-storey town hall building is the latest addition to the LEGO® Modular Buildings series. This highly-detailed model features large entrance-way columns and coat of arms, a tall bell tower with clock and a large skylight giving a view inside the building. On the ground floor, the large hall, tax office and auditorium are perfect for servicing the town’s citizens.

    Take the working elevator up to the secretary and mayor's offices on the second floor, furnished eloquently with desks, chairs, paintings and even a frog sculpture. There’s even a balcony for addressing the town's citizens. On the third floor, a spacious meeting room features a large conference table, chairs, globe and plants. Includes 8 minifigures: mayor, secretary, bride and groom, press woman, janitor and 2 children.

The description makes this set sound great, especially the elevator feature. The photos really showcase the detail put into the town hall. At $250, it's going to be out of my price range when you add taxes to the total.

Those of you complaining about the price - there are 25% more pieces in this set than the average modular. THUS THE PRICE GOES UP 25%.

If you are so unable to understand basic retail pricing - then you shouldn't be in charge of your own money.

If the set goes up 25% more pieces, then the price @25% more would only be $179.99 to 189.99, not $199.99.

@$199, the price has just gone up 33%. The piece increase is only 22%. The price is definitely absurdly too high. I was definitely expected a price increase, but only $179.99, not this insane fifty extra bucks that they did.

re: price - the cost of materials and shipping have increased, so $200 sounds right for a set with a lot more pieces.
I expect this to be the new price point on these sets for the next several years.

We should be happy we got them at $150 for so long. ;)

@vpustote - not sure how you are computing your pieces, but the Pet Shop had 2032 pieces. This set has 2766 pieces. That is an increase of 36.12% in pieces. (2766-2032=734 734/2032=.3612). So it is a better deal than the Pet Shop, and on par with the previous sets with a few more pieces than that.

33% price increase from Cafe Corner, 34.5% more pieces than Cafe Corner. Also, that was released 5 years ago. At 2% average yearly inflation, that would mean that sets should naturally be 10% higher now than they were 5 years ago. That argument doesn't hold up at all.

I love how you guys conveniently only mention the sets with very few pieces like Pet Shop and Cafe Corner. Why didn't you go all out and mention Market Street for 1248 pieces for $89.99?

Green Grocer - 2352
Fire Brigade - 2231
Grand Emporium - 2182

Average of these sets = 2255 pieces

2766 / 2255 = 22.66% piece increase

All of those sets were conveniently priced at $149.99. Now it's magically $199.99 for the new one. That's a shocking increase. $179.99 would have been a more like it increase.

The USA is still getting it cheaper than the rest of the world so if people don't want it, no-one is forcing them to buy it. It's a hobby in the end, not a life or death situation.

As far as price is concerned, the modulars are 1 set per year. I'd rather they increase the price to a necessary level to maintain a high level of detail throughout the sets, as opposed to keeping the price point a little lower and ending up with something that feels empty or incomplete.

The price has been static at $150 for 4 years straight, it was bound to go up. I'm excited to see what they can do over the next few years at a $200 price point. And who knows, perhaps sales will be flatter, and they'll drop down to the $180 mark next year.

I believe they made this set grander, as it's the Town Hall and should be bigger than other surrounding buildings. So hopefully, future modulars will be somewhat smaller again, and also smaller in price. What would made me mad is if they drop the piece count down, and keep the $200 price point.

Is that a haunted house after R2-D2? My girlfriend will be very excited if so! As for price, ever since I dropped a cool $400 on the UCS Falcon anything less than that makes me happy. Will wait for double points month and a 10% coupon to knock 20% off. Or maybe they'll sell them at TRU and we can get a BOGO deal.

Reading the comments on this article, I can only come to one conclusion:

AFOL's have no concept of economics. Keep in mind that petroleum (which is used to make plastic) has increased in price 500% in the last 10 years.

So not only are the raw materials more expensive, but product shipping has gone up in price as well. Basically this means that EVERY part of the production process is more expensive than it was 5-10 years ago.

The average price per piece on this set is almost the same as the other "official" modulars (not including Market St.) - so no, in the end THERE IS NOT ACTUALLY AN INCREASE IN PRICE PER PIECE.

This whole debate is really sad - I would expect confusion from kids and teens about this stuff, but the fact that the adults are sitting here making there stupidest comments of all is frankly depressing and keeps me from wanting to ever interact with other AFOLs in real life.

@silvera4 - Members to Legoland get 10% off on all purchases... 20% during one week in Dec before Xmas. I usually don't go crazy with this discount since there are better deals throughout the year, but for some things that I'm not willing to wait, this is always an option.

In Canada where a set is $100 US we usually pay around $130 and our dollar has been on par with the US (sometime even above) for over 3 years now. If I order something from Lego.com like any fellow American, it comes from the same source (warehouse) but costs me more...what gives

I think its that dark orange color thats driving up the price. Come on (US) people, its 199.99 for 2766 pieces. How is that a problem? Beautiful, I think I'm in love... and the model isn't that bad either. As for the price, I'm not upset. If people think this is too much money for a Lego set, then they can take a look at the 10188 Death Star which comes in at just under $400 with 3804 pieces. The only thing I'm worried about is where the modular sets go from here. I hope the next modular is scaled back a bit, I'd like to see some more townhome like housing, such as the brownstone next to the pet shop.

I know I should be paying more attention to the set, but is she ever easy on the eyes. Am I right in thinking she was the lead designer on this set? A+ any way. I love all the little details. The elevator is a great little feature. My only dislike is the color. I've never been a fan of orange. But that's a pretty minor complaint.

I'm a little bummed about R2-D2. I like the Droid Developer Kit better. Maybe upon closer inspection the new one will be a pleasant surprise. Keep the modulars and Star Wars UCS coming!!! I want a monster modular hospital that takes up an entire city block and costs $500. Some of that space can be used for a garden in order to keep the cost down. Do it! Do it now!

Hahaha! I bet they yanked the video so they can edit out the sneak peak of R2-D2 and a haunted house. There really wasn't anything in the video that we didn't already know regarding the Town Hall. I guess some guys here were smitten with the female designer, but the big revelations to me were the R2-D2 and haunted house. I have great sex every day, but it's only a couple times a year we get great new Lego sets!

I just clicked on the vid and unfortunately get a message saying this video is private, I hope they don't take too long editing it, I cannot wait to see this set in more detail, it looks amazing.

One thing I am finding disappointing are the constant remarks about the female designer, it is making the Lego community look like a bunch of sad perverts who have never seen a woman before! Get over it!

Anyway, can't wait for this to be released. I should get it for about £100 because I have about £50 of VIP points saved up :)

The Town Hall looks slightly better than I had originally thought. Astrid put a lot of nice features into the model. The elevator is its biggest selling point for me. I also like how she used the car wheel well elements as decorative features for the windows.

The facade on the ground floor is beautiful. I'm not a big fan of the ground floor interior though. The mayor's office on the second floor is nice, plus I like how you can look down into the gallery. The conference room on the third floor is equally impressive.

Astrid pointed out that the three different floors have different designs to mix things up, something I didn't notice until she pointed it out in the video. While I like the ground floor facade, I am not a fan of the exterior of the second and third floors. Using wheel wells for the windows was very creative but I still find the exterior of the upper two floors to be blocky and plain.

Other really cool features include being able to change the time on the clock tower and the skylight created by Jaime. I like how the back of the building has a lot of windows. Previous modular buildings lacked this feature. The one thing that really bugs me about the model are the burnt orange bricks. I like that LEGO is moving away from their standard three colours of red, blue and yellow but orange isn't my colour of choice for any building.

I think the set itself is reasonably priced considering the fact that it has 600 or 700 more pieces when compared to previous modular buildings. It also has 8 mini-figures! I was expecting the set to be closer to $279 to $299 CDN. $249 CDN is reasonable but when you add taxes it's out of my price range. Also, the Town Hall doesn't have the same wow factor as the Green Grocer, Grand Emporium, Cafe Corner or Pet Shop.

I think that it is a good idea for TLG to extend the Design Team to more people, and a ladies touch is also quite welcome. I hope that the Town Hall sells well and that we see more buildings from Astrid Graabæk and Jamie Berard in the future!

As for the price, I don't see much reason to complain! Afterall, you're getting over 500 pieces more for about an extra £20 which is fantastic, and 8-minifigs are included too.

The orange colour is very welcome for me, and I would say it is the best part of this set. Many 2012 sets are going to see very serious inflation, this appears not to be one. But inflation is the biggest tax any of us will ever pay, I don't really like having a tax office in the town hall too! The elevator is a good way to save space, but the interior is a little sparse compared to some of the other modulars. Like the front, especially the trompe l'oeil columns on the stairs, but the back is rather plain. Not necessarily a must buy, but pretty decent.

I like the minifigures, the globe, the table, the offices, the elevator, the clock face, the crest, and many of the other features. Sorry, but whats up with all the U.S. based member complaining about the price?

In New Zealand the retail cost of this is $298 USD, and in Australia it is about $270 USD.

Its now listed at lego.com, available 1st march (UK anyway). I hope they do another corner building next.
