The Lego Shop Facebook page has about a dozen hi res photos up.

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 09:15

This set looks fantastic and at £149.99, It's just about affordable. Any ideas on when it will be released?

Edit, its release date is march.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 09:16

^^ They are also on the set detail page, under the alternate image tab, http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=10224-1

Posted by brixton in Canada, 16 Feb 2012 09:24

The description makes this set sound great, especially the elevator feature. The photos really showcase the detail put into the town hall. At $250, it's going to be out of my price range when you add taxes to the total.

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 09:24

Now this set, I'll be getting!!

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 16 Feb 2012 09:25

While I have no intention of buying this (unless I win the lottery) I will say that I really love seeing the blue businessman suit from 7051 Tripod Invader getting re-used, and for the mayor himself no less!

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 09:27

Look out kids, the Mayor has a gun down the side of his chair!

$200 green backs is a little high, but everything is going up. Sure glad I have been saving my VIP points.

Posted by fadetoone in United States, 16 Feb 2012 09:41

Oh good, they are jacking up the price of these now too? At least you could depend on them being $150US for a while...

Posted by natro220 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 09:52

You guys, this set has 500-700 more pieces than the previous modulars, a $50 price hike was expected...sheesh...

Posted by serviceburo in United States, 16 Feb 2012 09:53

Those of you complaining about the price - there are 25% more pieces in this set than the average modular. THUS THE PRICE GOES UP 25%.

If you are so unable to understand basic retail pricing - then you shouldn't be in charge of your own money.

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 10:05

Well I said i'd buy this set regardless of the cost.... I never pay full price so the soonest this is at Legoland it is mine.

Posted by supersympa in Sweden, 16 Feb 2012 10:11

another must buy this year....
i need to change house....

Posted by vpustote in United States, 16 Feb 2012 10:26

@servicebro

If the set goes up 25% more pieces, then the price @25% more would only be $179.99 to 189.99, not $199.99.

@$199, the price has just gone up 33%. The piece increase is only 22%. The price is definitely absurdly too high. I was definitely expected a price increase, but only $179.99, not this insane fifty extra bucks that they did.

Posted by MMR1988 in Germany, 16 Feb 2012 10:36

Seen at LEGO World København, today. Looks really great.

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 10:57

I am so looking forward to this. Are we sure March 1st is the official release date? Usually the release dates fall on a Monday.

Posted by silvera4 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 10:58

Vwong19, is it cheaper to buy it from Legoland?

Posted by ncbarrett in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:03

This looks great.
I will buy this when I am able to come up with the money.

re: price - the cost of materials and shipping have increased, so $200 sounds right for a set with a lot more pieces.
I expect this to be the new price point on these sets for the next several years.

We should be happy we got them at $150 for so long. ;)

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 16 Feb 2012 11:07

Any Americans who have a problem with U.S. prices should come here and buy LEGO and then shut up.

Posted by natro220 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:08

@vpustote - not sure how you are computing your pieces, but the Pet Shop had 2032 pieces. This set has 2766 pieces. That is an increase of 36.12% in pieces. (2766-2032=734 734/2032=.3612). So it is a better deal than the Pet Shop, and on par with the previous sets with a few more pieces than that.

Posted by natro220 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:10

And, this set has twice as many minifigures, and more minifigures than any previous modular.

Posted by infernalbrick in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 11:18

looks fantastic and fits in with the other modulars. I might have to start collecting them!

Posted by LuvKernow in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 11:19

I think what people are concerned about is the price difference between Cafe Corner and this one. Think it's about £80 difference? Don't think it's quite in line with inflation rates...

Posted by natro220 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:22

Cafe Corner only had 2056 pieces.....

Posted by LuvKernow in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 11:24

And I got it for £64.99. Don't think this one will come down...

Posted by LuvKernow in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 11:24

And I got it for £64.99. Don't think this one will come down...

Posted by natro220 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:26

33% price increase from Cafe Corner, 34.5% more pieces than Cafe Corner. Also, that was released 5 years ago. At 2% average yearly inflation, that would mean that sets should naturally be 10% higher now than they were 5 years ago. That argument doesn't hold up at all.

Posted by natro220 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:27

33% price increase in the U.S. anyways, MSRP

Posted by natro220 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:29

Wait, my bad, Cafe Corner was only $139.99 in the U.S.....so it's a 57% increase. But still, it's a good deal in my opinion compared to most of what else is out there...great piece and color selection, 8 minifigs...

Posted by LuvKernow in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 11:31

Yeah and our wages went up the same too. No. First modular I won't be buying.

Posted by LuvKernow in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 11:31

Yeah and our wages went up the same too. No. First modular I won't be buying.

Posted by vpustote in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:35

I love how you guys conveniently only mention the sets with very few pieces like Pet Shop and Cafe Corner. Why didn't you go all out and mention Market Street for 1248 pieces for $89.99?

Green Grocer - 2352
Fire Brigade - 2231
Grand Emporium - 2182

Average of these sets = 2255 pieces

2766 / 2255 = 22.66% piece increase

All of those sets were conveniently priced at $149.99. Now it's magically $199.99 for the new one. That's a shocking increase. $179.99 would have been a more like it increase.

Posted by vpustote in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:37

Don't get me wrong though, this is an awesome set and I will be getting it.... I just roll my eyes at the price they chose.

Posted by natro220 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:40

OK, you have a point...and it is upsetting that they seem to be raising prices on all sets across the board. But they wouldn't if people didn't buy them. Supply and demand at work.

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 11:41

The USA is still getting it cheaper than the rest of the world so if people don't want it, no-one is forcing them to buy it. It's a hobby in the end, not a life or death situation.

In sunnier news... haunted house 2 seconds in as well (as mentioned in the forum)...

Posted by natro220 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:44

Thanks for the perspective, Andhe!

Posted by dougts in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:45

As far as price is concerned, the modulars are 1 set per year. I'd rather they increase the price to a necessary level to maintain a high level of detail throughout the sets, as opposed to keeping the price point a little lower and ending up with something that feels empty or incomplete.

The price has been static at $150 for 4 years straight, it was bound to go up. I'm excited to see what they can do over the next few years at a $200 price point. And who knows, perhaps sales will be flatter, and they'll drop down to the $180 mark next year.

Posted by natro220 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 11:53

I believe they made this set grander, as it's the Town Hall and should be bigger than other surrounding buildings. So hopefully, future modulars will be somewhat smaller again, and also smaller in price. What would made me mad is if they drop the piece count down, and keep the $200 price point.

Posted by OracabessaGirl in Canada, 16 Feb 2012 11:56

I'm surprised Jamie Berard wasn't the lead designer for this. Is there a story here?

Posted by lippidp in United States, 16 Feb 2012 12:00

Is that a haunted house after R2-D2? My girlfriend will be very excited if so! As for price, ever since I dropped a cool $400 on the UCS Falcon anything less than that makes me happy. Will wait for double points month and a 10% coupon to knock 20% off. Or maybe they'll sell them at TRU and we can get a BOGO deal.

Posted by serviceburo in United States, 16 Feb 2012 12:01

Reading the comments on this article, I can only come to one conclusion:

AFOL's have no concept of economics. Keep in mind that petroleum (which is used to make plastic) has increased in price 500% in the last 10 years.

So not only are the raw materials more expensive, but product shipping has gone up in price as well. Basically this means that EVERY part of the production process is more expensive than it was 5-10 years ago.

The average price per piece on this set is almost the same as the other "official" modulars (not including Market St.) - so no, in the end THERE IS NOT ACTUALLY AN INCREASE IN PRICE PER PIECE.

This whole debate is really sad - I would expect confusion from kids and teens about this stuff, but the fact that the adults are sitting here making there stupidest comments of all is frankly depressing and keeps me from wanting to ever interact with other AFOLs in real life.

Posted by natro220 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 12:11

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say those who don't agree with you on this are stupid (I do agree with your points btw, which back up what I said above)...it's ok to have differing opinions.

Posted by bodybomb3 in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 12:25

did anyone see the haunted house at the start that could turn out to be very good.

Posted by rainstorm26 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 12:36

"Keep the wheels of commerce turning with the authentic Town Hall!"

The price will definitely keep the wheels of commerce turning at the Lego company.

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 12:39

@silvera4 - Members to Legoland get 10% off on all purchases... 20% during one week in Dec before Xmas. I usually don't go crazy with this discount since there are better deals throughout the year, but for some things that I'm not willing to wait, this is always an option.

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 12:41

haha "Fire bigrade" :D

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 12:48

$199 isn't a fun new price point, but gas prices will be reaching $5/gal soon in the states, so LEGO is keeping up with inflation. I'm thankful that the economy hasn't kept me from continuing to enjoy my hobby.

Posted by CamberbrickGreen in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 12:50

I must be the only member to have never seen a real Lego designer before...
I can only deduce this because everyone has commented only on the beauty of the set. Mind you Scandinavians; go figure.

Fantastic buttresses and shape anyway, can't wait to get to grips with this model!

Posted by shaase in Canada, 16 Feb 2012 12:57

Graysmith; ditto here.

In Canada where a set is $100 US we usually pay around $130 and our dollar has been on par with the US (sometime even above) for over 3 years now. If I order something from Lego.com like any fellow American, it comes from the same source (warehouse) but costs me more...what gives

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 13:11

@shaase.... I suggest to protest you band all Canadians and only support Mega Bloks. Isn't that a Canadian product. That will show LEGO you want the market to change.

Posted by The_Box in United States, 16 Feb 2012 13:40

I think its that dark orange color thats driving up the price. Come on (US) people, its 199.99 for 2766 pieces. How is that a problem? Look at all the other sets that coming out later this year, those are overprice not this one. If I had room somewhere to put that I would definitely get it at this.

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 13:41

^^ :-) It did occur to me that maybe working in Billund might not be so bad after all.....

Posted by T-Lars in United States, 16 Feb 2012 13:43

Beautiful, I think I'm in love... and the model isn't that bad either. As for the price, I'm not upset. If people think this is too much money for a Lego set, then they can take a look at the 10188 Death Star which comes in at just under $400 with 3804 pieces. The only thing I'm worried about is where the modular sets go from here. I hope the next modular is scaled back a bit, I'd like to see some more townhome like housing, such as the brownstone next to the pet shop.

Posted by grogall in Germany, 16 Feb 2012 13:45

I have no quarrel with the price of this set. GG was actually released for €159.99 here in Germany 4 years ago plus we have double VIP point for the first halve of next month. I'm just hope March 1st is the official release date since it wasn't posted in the info. so just under two weeks to wait for this one! :)

Posted by halcyon305 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 13:47

Saw the R2D2, but more interested in the gray victorian house! I thought it was Dracula castle but I think it's different...

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 13:53

$199.99 is a great price for this. You get 2700+ pieces. Pretty fair.

Posted by LusiferSam in United States, 16 Feb 2012 13:57

I know I should be paying more attention to the set, but is she ever easy on the eyes. Am I right in thinking she was the lead designer on this set? A+ any way. I love all the little details. The elevator is a great little feature. My only dislike is the color. I've never been a fan of orange. But that's a pretty minor complaint.

Posted by copperwonder96 in United States, 16 Feb 2012 14:02

I'll take a few of these please! LOVE!!!

Posted by cjg in United States, 16 Feb 2012 14:02

Video is private?

Posted by lippidp in United States, 16 Feb 2012 14:05

I'm a little bummed about R2-D2. I like the Droid Developer Kit better. Maybe upon closer inspection the new one will be a pleasant surprise. Keep the modulars and Star Wars UCS coming!!! I want a monster modular hospital that takes up an entire city block and costs $500. Some of that space can be used for a garden in order to keep the cost down. Do it! Do it now!

Posted by lippidp in United States, 16 Feb 2012 14:10

Hahaha! I bet they yanked the video so they can edit out the sneak peak of R2-D2 and a haunted house. There really wasn't anything in the video that we didn't already know regarding the Town Hall. I guess some guys here were smitten with the female designer, but the big revelations to me were the R2-D2 and haunted house. I have great sex every day, but it's only a couple times a year we get great new Lego sets!

Posted by Xiaolong in Belgium, 16 Feb 2012 14:14

Just like MVives and cjg I wonder why I cannot see the video.

Posted by brixton in Canada, 16 Feb 2012 14:27

I'm not sure why they made the video private. It was working this morning. Maybe AFOL's were paying too much attention to the designer and not enough attention to the set? If anything, that would help drive sales. I'm confused.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 14:51

^^^ Agree -- they are editing out the R2D2 and haunted house from the front, I bet...

Posted by Nightshroud99 in Canada, 16 Feb 2012 14:55

Can't see the video, but this is a nice set. Probably the first modular I will be buying, although during a sale.

Bit expensive . . . Funny that TLG put the new exclusives in the video.

Posted by streeker in France, 16 Feb 2012 18:11

@roguetraider1987, @Energyarrow

I can't believe how much this news is filled with sexism. How old are you? You think Astrid (yeah, she's got a name if you paid attention to the video), appreciates the kind of comments above? You think the female members and readers of Brickset enjoy reading your 'banter' on how much you could 'barter' her for?

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 18:20

^ Harsh but true. Those types of comments here and in the forum got very old very fast....

Posted by streeker in France, 16 Feb 2012 18:31

Mods, you've gone and taken the bite out of my post but you've left the offensive sexist crap posts alone????

Posted by mrdoofa in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 20:35

I just clicked on the vid and unfortunately get a message saying this video is private, I hope they don't take too long editing it, I cannot wait to see this set in more detail, it looks amazing.

One thing I am finding disappointing are the constant remarks about the female designer, it is making the Lego community look like a bunch of sad perverts who have never seen a woman before! Get over it!

Anyway, can't wait for this to be released. I should get it for about £100 because I have about £50 of VIP points saved up :)

Posted by JusJeff in United States, 16 Feb 2012 23:39

found a copy of the video here on YouTube; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDj_zA1v450

Posted by brixton in Canada, 17 Feb 2012 08:51

The Town Hall looks slightly better than I had originally thought. Astrid put a lot of nice features into the model. The elevator is its biggest selling point for me. I also like how she used the car wheel well elements as decorative features for the windows.

The facade on the ground floor is beautiful. I'm not a big fan of the ground floor interior though. The mayor's office on the second floor is nice, plus I like how you can look down into the gallery. The conference room on the third floor is equally impressive.

Astrid pointed out that the three different floors have different designs to mix things up, something I didn't notice until she pointed it out in the video. While I like the ground floor facade, I am not a fan of the exterior of the second and third floors. Using wheel wells for the windows was very creative but I still find the exterior of the upper two floors to be blocky and plain.

Other really cool features include being able to change the time on the clock tower and the skylight created by Jaime. I like how the back of the building has a lot of windows. Previous modular buildings lacked this feature. The one thing that really bugs me about the model are the burnt orange bricks. I like that LEGO is moving away from their standard three colours of red, blue and yellow but orange isn't my colour of choice for any building.

I think the set itself is reasonably priced considering the fact that it has 600 or 700 more pieces when compared to previous modular buildings. It also has 8 mini-figures! I was expecting the set to be closer to $279 to $299 CDN. $249 CDN is reasonable but when you add taxes it's out of my price range. Also, the Town Hall doesn't have the same wow factor as the Green Grocer, Grand Emporium, Cafe Corner or Pet Shop.

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 17 Feb 2012 13:58

The official release date according to Lego shop at home is March 1st.

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 17 Feb 2012 13:58

I'm very disappointed with the behaviour of some of the members here - that level of sexist banter has no place here and is not acceptable behaviour. I can hardly believe I have to say this ...

Posted by grogall in Germany, 17 Feb 2012 15:40

I think that it is a good idea for TLG to extend the Design Team to more people, and a ladies touch is also quite welcome. I hope that the Town Hall sells well and that we see more buildings from Astrid Graabæk and Jamie Berard in the future!

Posted by Nesquik in United Kingdom, 17 Feb 2012 15:57

@Bluemoose - I agree totally. My guess is that these comments are from the more immature members of Brickset who feel it's acceptable to single out women involved with Lego.

As for the price, I don't see much reason to complain! Afterall, you're getting over 500 pieces more for about an extra £20 which is fantastic, and 8-minifigs are included too.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 17 Feb 2012 17:42

^Nothing wrong with singling out women. It's all in good fun. You guys really gotta' lighten up. It's guys being guys. Count me in as an immature member.

Posted by Goony in Denmark, 18 Feb 2012 00:20

On the banter thing. I don't believe anyone said anything really bad and I hardly think Astrid would mind it. Danish women aren't offended that easily. Cheer up

^ if you think that, you obviously didn't read all the comments before they were deleted.

Posted by robbiew in Hong Kong, 18 Feb 2012 09:20

The orange colour is very welcome for me, and I would say it is the best part of this set. Many 2012 sets are going to see very serious inflation, this appears not to be one. But inflation is the biggest tax any of us will ever pay, I don't really like having a tax office in the town hall too! The elevator is a good way to save space, but the interior is a little sparse compared to some of the other modulars. Like the front, especially the trompe l'oeil columns on the stairs, but the back is rather plain. Not necessarily a must buy, but pretty decent.

But it looks GREAT!

EDIT 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDjJI6sP2Sw&feature=related LEGO Club's version. Nice clean cut of R2 and Haunted House. Quite the spot the difference game for unaware people. :P

Wow! This one easily looks like the best yet, and there a lot of clever features thrown in. I like the minifigures, the globe, the table, the offices, the elevator, the clock face, the crest, and many of the other features. TLG is only getting better at these over time, an unfortunate truth for my wallet.

Quite weird they remove it and leave it online here:

But I love the model, looks fantastic and might be a getter. :)

Sorry, but whats up with all the U.S. based member complaining about the price?

In New Zealand the retail cost of this is $298 USD, and in Australia it is about $270 USD.

You guys have it so good compared to the rest of the world, and you still have to come on here and whinge!
