Cuusoo Western Town gets congratulations from LEGO

  • Cuusoo Western Town gets congratulations from LEGO

Posted by Huw, 15 Mar 2012 16:01. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Many thanks to everyone who has voted for this model at Cuusoo!

When Eurobricks, Brickset, Toys N Bricks and other sites started promoting this model at the start of February it had just 1500 votes. Now it has over 5000 and today LEGO has posted a congratulatory message:

"Congratulations on passing this milestone of 5,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO for the Modular Western Town. You're halfway there!

"Over the coming weeks, veteran designer Steen Sig Andersen, the same designer who built the final Shinkai 6500 and LEGO Minecraft Micro World models, will investigate your Modular Western Town model and build our own concept. We will post the results here with our comments once that is complete.

"Best wishes as you continue on your journey to achieving 10,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO."

This is absolutely fantastic news, and takes it one step closer to becoming a Cuusoo model! But, it still needs about 4500 votes and that's where YOU come in. If you haven't already supported it, go and do so now! Remember, anyone 13 and over can vote.  Help make it a reality!

Cool! Let's hope it gets all the way to 10,000 (I've already cast my vote...)

Posted by brickmatt in United States, 15 Mar 2012 16:26

A little over 4000 votes since the first article isn't bad. I can see this being a popular series - the ever popular western them combined with the detail of the modular series makes for a great theme.

Too bad this project lost its momentum after a few days. Lets hope it reaches 10K soon.
I'm looking forward to what the lego designer comes up with.

Good luck with your project, mb_bricks.

Posted by rolomolo12345 in United Kingdom, 15 Mar 2012 16:36

Supported, and hoping to buy it when it comes out in the stores :D

Posted by yys4u in United States, 15 Mar 2012 16:36

Yea I've already voted, hopefully we see an other surge of voters with repeat posts.

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 15 Mar 2012 16:43

Excellent news - nice to see the community getting behind such a cool model.

Brickset gets over 50 million hits a year so SURELY we can help get this proposal up to 10,000 votes.... So if you're over 13 and haven't voted, you know what to do !

Fantastic!
Come on everyone!

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 15 Mar 2012 18:23

Just added another vote. The model is 1step closer to reaching 1000.

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 15 Mar 2012 18:32

hmm, it's ok, but we have had Western before, and I am unsure about the Gun shop given I have a young daughter. Would much rather see something new and original. Where are the Romans or Tudors?

Posted by Gandalf1 in United States, 15 Mar 2012 18:47

This is awesome! You know, Space Marines is another projects on Cuusoo that definitely deserves this kind of support. Everyone should really go check it out and support it: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/5127

@goldfish: This model is original. It's extremely well-built, and has lots of cool little features. Have you seen the flickr images?

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 15 Mar 2012 19:07

How much would you be ready to pay for such a product?
$99 USD

Price must be a number. Price must be greater than 0.

I don't think I should have added the dollar sign but that was just too funny. Supported!

Posted by Gandalf1 in United States, 15 Mar 2012 19:09

Yeah, adding a '$' makes it redundant; that would mean, "ninety-nine dollars United States Dollars." :-D

Posted by Modok in United States, 15 Mar 2012 19:20

@goldfish - I doubt the gun shop would ever see the light of day. Just consider it an idea of what's possible, not an actual suggested product. I'm not usually a Western fan, but I'd really enjoy seeing a themed line aimed at AFOLs. I love modular buildings, and having some that are a little more "fun" than City/Creator would be pretty cool. (That's also why I'm jazzed about the haunted house coming out later this year.)

cool! love it! to bad i cant vote cause im 11 :( well ill just wait an watch this thing climb up to 10,000 supporters cant wait to buy it!

I'm a bit late at this but I finally cast my vote for this wonderful project.

Posted by 1265 in United States, 15 Mar 2012 20:14

Very cool!! I would love to see this available for purchase. I like the gun shop......being from that time and being a western model....it fits well together.

sorry, can't vote. 12.

Posted by ditasvelte in Australia, 15 Mar 2012 21:48

I find it highly strange that LEGO is preempting the success of this at the halfway mark by (a) issuing this statement (b) announcing they are getting their own designer to 'investigate' doing an official LEGO 'our own concept' and then post it for comments.

Does that mean the 10,000 tally doesn't mean anything and the benchmark is now 5,000? Also, isn't the whole point that LEGO takes on board the fan view and fan designs rather than jumping in with their own design?

If I was the original poster of this model I would be confused and annoyed by the timing and wording of this announcement, to be honest.

Posted by Balthazar Brannigan in United States, 15 Mar 2012 21:48

I'd love to see this turned into a line of sets. I think it would set a premise for other "sub-themes" of the modular line outside of a modern city, which could be very cool. A western railway set to go along with these would be great too.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 15 Mar 2012 22:09

Such a nice model.

Posted by ngclarkiv in United States, 15 Mar 2012 23:45

Perhaps, I'm just not a mod stuff but I'd rather see something else. Why not a ucs for batman? I know they made a ucs batmobile but they need a tumbler and batwing. Now artifex creation's tumbler on YouTube would be an awesome cuusoo model.

Posted by Be-Burger in Israel, 16 Mar 2012 05:25

I already voted for this before Brickset started promoting this... I hope it gets to 10000 soon!

Posted by Steve_J_OM in Ireland, 16 Mar 2012 06:10

I've been trying to register for Cuusoo ever since this model was submitted, and I still can't. Highly frustrating. I get all the way through registration but the 'sign me up' button just doesn't work.

Re: "strange that LEGO is preempting the success of this"

Or perhaps they've noticed the attention it's getting from _actual_fans_ rather than just an internet swarm; hopefully, someone, somewhere is questioning whether this voting system really is the best way of doing things.

My suggestion (buried somewhere in the comments system if you want to find and click it) was to give you (a) a single sign-up based on your LEGO ID, and (b) band you according to total VIP points ever accrued (i.e. what you're really spending) and multiply the value of your vote by your banding. Because the last thing Cuussoo needs is a load of people who've never bought a LEGO set and never will swaying the vote.

Oops - too late.

Posted by kuf in United States, 16 Mar 2012 08:13

The LEGO nod at 5000 is probably showing that they see the marketability and the eventuality of working on this set. It will probably speed up voting to market time, (assuming 10k is reached). If they do the LEGO mock-up while people are still voting, they can get market input on the design too, to see if they are going in the direction voters are hoping.

At least, that's what my management decision would be based on.

Posted by OuterRimTradingCo. in Australia, 16 Mar 2012 09:47

How is this taking so long to reach 10K with so many high profile websites getting behind it?

Posted by oldfan in United States, 16 Mar 2012 09:53

^Either Cuusoo is user-unfriendly and/or people don't trust the site enough to sign up, or our little group of hobbyists is just that...

For the record, I signed up to support this project and would love to see it come out one day.

Posted by cheshirecat in United Kingdom, 16 Mar 2012 10:07

^it was an attempt to stop so many very basic and childish projects being started by very young children rather than to stop them voting. I guess the system meant it was an all or nothing deal.

^^ Yes, i think the AFOL community is smaller than many expect.

Posted by dougts in United States, 16 Mar 2012 13:01

one thing I like about this, that is different than the modulars is the open backs. It's more of a hybrid modular/playset idea that I think works very well. It allows kids to play in the buildings like normal open-backed playsets, or gives AFOL's a nice open interior to set up scenes for display and photography.

Posted by Si_Dorking_Surrey in New Zealand, 16 Mar 2012 13:30

^ Good spot, it's a good format. Reminds me of Diagon Alley.

Posted by cheshirecat in United Kingdom, 16 Mar 2012 16:04

^^ Totally agree I think its got great playability for the kids (so long as its not too fragile) and complexity for the parents.

^^^ @ dougts Re: "one thing I like about this, that is different than the modulars is the open backs. It's more of a hybrid modular/playset idea that I think works very well. I agree completely I (as an AFOL) do prefer open backs to sets. While I love the modulars and appreciate why they have closed backs, would really prefer if they designed the sets with open backs to increase playability (and even increase display, I dont' often get to see how cool the inside is). I really prefer the open backs.

Additionally, I think it probably has fewer bricks, decreasing set cost.

I've already casted my vote, but I hope it wins! No mini sets, please.

Posted by Modok in United States, 16 Mar 2012 17:58

To the under-13 members, even if you can't vote yourself, you can always ask an older family member or friend to register and vote for you. :)

Posted by Bustin in United States, 16 Mar 2012 20:12

Keep in mind that we can play the system like a lot of the Minecraft fans did...

Make duplicate accounts with separate e-mails...

Posted by keithk78 in Anonymous Proxy, 16 Mar 2012 22:50

Supported (awhile back).

Between this and the UCS Sandcrawler, if mb_bricks isn't careful, he's going to find himself hired by TLG and then miss out on royalties....but he might be able to live with that!

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 16 Mar 2012 23:52

I voted already. I am patient and can wait a while for this theme to come out. It is not like dont already have a lot of sets on my wish list this year.

Posted by flat_four in United Kingdom, 17 Mar 2012 08:00

Finally managed to log into Cuusoo.
Supported this straight away, hope it makes it all the way:)

Posted by richl in United States, 18 Mar 2012 08:17

Supported this one, and the Back to the Future project. Both look fantastic.

Posted by Duq in Ireland, 19 Mar 2012 05:15

I don't get all the excitement. This Cuusoo idea received about 1500 votes before getting the supported of every major AFOL site. With that support it received 2000 votes in its first week. It then took another five weeks to get the next 1500 votes to get to 5000. It will be a tall order to get another 5000 votes from here.
To me this means that a Cuusoo project only has a realistic chance of reaching the 10k votes if it is supported by a community outside the AFOL world and that individual projects don't have a hope of ever making it.
But maybe I'm just a pessimist...

Posted by Town in United States, 19 Mar 2012 18:08

To be honest this set is one of many sets posted to http://www.brick-town-talk.com/ , most of which Id love to be made into real sets. Why only focus on this one? I guess people just like different things.

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 20 Mar 2012 11:18

^^ agreed. It is a nice model, and clearly well done, but it does feel like its getting pushed like mad by the lego community, which does make me feel uncomfortable.

Posted by lippidp in United States, 21 Mar 2012 09:47

I just hope they don't put a computer in there like they did the Town Hall.

Posted by Reekardoo in Portugal, 22 Mar 2012 13:39

I prefer the sandcrawler in Cuusoo by the same design artist...

Both are fantastic works and deserved my support.
