Iron Man in all his glory

Iron Man Iron Man Iron Man Iron Man

There's been a lot of talk about Iron Man and whether he would look good with a normal minfig head and 'helmet' rather than a printed head. I took these pictures so that you can decide whether he's cool or not for yourself...

I think he looks great!

Posted by adello25 in United States, 06 Apr 2012 11:50

I think the figure is outstanding and that flip up helmet is an awesome design!!

Posted by ytjedi in United States, 06 Apr 2012 11:51

You can really tell they sized it down from that image we got at Comic Con last summer. It's like a normal helmet now. What is the clip on the helmet like?

Interesting pictures. Wonder if you'll be continuing the minifigure galleries any time soon.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 06 Apr 2012 11:55

^ I certainly plan to: I have loads to do, I just need to find the time.

Posted by AitchJay in Australia, 06 Apr 2012 11:58

I like it!
I'm one voice among millions, but I think it looks good and I want it.

Posted by Bumblepants in Cameroon, 06 Apr 2012 12:00

I just realized there are two different Iron Man minifigs. The one from the Helicarrier has the circular power-device on his armor (forgive my ignorance of the proper name) and this fig from the truck set has the triangular power-device.

Posted by nerfman1234 in United States, 06 Apr 2012 12:01

I believe he looks great. People said the helmet was too clunky. But then we found out it had to be for that freaking awesome flip up action!

Posted by BrickBob09 in United Kingdom, 06 Apr 2012 12:03

The printing on the helmet is a little off, but that's not really a design flaw.
I wished they'd cover his neck as it looks exposed. Bringing it down to the torso would have made him seem more like the 'Invincible Iron Man', not Iron Man with a hole in his suit.

Other than that I think it's great and the helmet isn't too big. I love the gold and the detail on his back print.

@syahcire; I almost said it was the Flux Capacitor, but saved myself before I did ;)
It's called the Arc Reactor or something like this. If you've seen the films, you'll know the circle is the original chest piece, used it the first film, and the triangle is the one he makes in the second film.

I guess LEGO is either adding more play-ability by allowing children to imagine he's upgraded the suit (switching between the two) or adding collectors value to the two mini-figures by making them each only appear in one set. At least it won't end up like my LEGO India Jones collection, where I have around 5 Indie's wearing all the same thing...

yes like.

love it!

Posted by copperwonder96 in United States, 06 Apr 2012 12:09

He looks like a bobble head or a little kid in an adult Halloween costume. I couldn't help but notice that his proportions looks like the character in the Jim Carey movie "the Mask", "smmm-okin!". I like the printed heads better but it was a nice attempt.

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 06 Apr 2012 12:35

I love, love, love Iron Man (the character) and I'm so crushingly disappointed by this minifigure. Everything that makes Iron Man such a cool character is obliterated by that ridiculous helmet. He should've appeared the same way Captain America does, with just printing on his head. The exclusive Toy Fair version isn't great either, but definitely better than this bobblehead joke.

Posted by Goldmatt in United States, 06 Apr 2012 12:39

This helmet looks 2x smaller than the NY prototype what gives?

Posted by legomaniac in United States, 06 Apr 2012 12:49

Looks good. Im glad it is gold and red, not yellow and red.

Posted by pstrickler27 in United States, 06 Apr 2012 13:01

That is one sharp looking figure.. now if they could just get Captain America, Spider-Man and Deadpool to look as good.. I will be happy.

Posted by BrickBob09 in United Kingdom, 06 Apr 2012 13:02

@Goldmatt; After the complaints people made about him, I guess LEGO made the helmet smaller to make people like him more. It's certainly better like this.

@legomaniac; So am I. Iron Man has never been yellow and red, but I can see LEGO cutting corners and making him so here. I especially love the shine from his helmet.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 06 Apr 2012 13:12

For the record, I think he's pretty cool and the helmet with lifting visor very well executed.

Posted by icepick in United States, 06 Apr 2012 13:21

I like it! Much more than I thought I would at any rate. :)

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 06 Apr 2012 13:25

I like it personally. I guess you either love it or hate it, although most people seem to like on here.

Posted by Rockman Xtreme in United States, 06 Apr 2012 13:25

I think its WAYYYYY better than the comic con one! That was horrible! I like the design, a couple small flaws but excellent none the less, anyways.

Posted by mo123567 in United States, 06 Apr 2012 13:36

It's still too big in my opinion. On it's own however, the helmet looks nice but it needs a bigger body.

Posted by yys4u in United States, 06 Apr 2012 13:43

Yea I still think it's too big, but I still think it looks pretty darn good. If they had given him an armor chest piece I think it would have helped to even the proportions. I would like to see a side by side picture from the prelim images of the original design to this one, I can't really remember how big the original was...

Thumbs up from me - very neat !

Posted by Apfly in United States, 06 Apr 2012 14:19

I think he looks fantastic! The whole suit is perfect, and the helmet really isn't that big. The head looks just like Jack Sparrow. What a coincidence.

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 06 Apr 2012 14:20

It looks great!.... Perhaps a picture of him standing next to Batman might provide some prospective on his huge dome.

Posted by ShotOnce in United States, 06 Apr 2012 14:47

I still think MEGA Bloks did it better, here's an example:

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 06 Apr 2012 15:22

^Oh God, I think you're right! :/ As much as I love the flip-up feature, I can't help but think that if they made his head a stand-alone headpiece a la C-3PO, it would look more in proportion. That M&$abl*ks figure actually looks killer in comparison! I'm hoping that I like it more once I get my hands on it and see it in person. :)

Posted by jango e1-g3 in United States, 06 Apr 2012 15:46

I realy think he is probley the coolest Marvel figure, I'm pretty happy that Lego
even made a Iron Man fig. I cant wait to get him, also look foreward to making
a war michine minifigure

^^^ please stop using dirty words in your comments!

^It's getting offensive now...

Posted by BrickBob09 in United Kingdom, 06 Apr 2012 16:54

I can't believe I'm saying this. It hurts so badly.

I like the MegaBloks Iron Man...
In comparison I'd say the Megabloks Iron Man looks better than LEGO Iron Man.

1st EDIT: I didn't mean it, I still love LEGO!
2nd EDIT: But the MegaBloks Iron Man is so much better
3rd EDIT: But it's MegaBloks- a cheap clone of our much loved LEGO. How can I betray my love for LEGO?

I'm going to be up all night thinking about this :(

Posted by Mequel De Vaughn in United States, 06 Apr 2012 16:57

Megablocks suck, LEGO for life!

Posted by theBrickBlogger in United States, 06 Apr 2012 17:39

I wish LEGO has done the Hazel/PEDRO design on the helmet, or something similar. It looks awesome and it is openable just like this one. But it looks SO MUCH BETTER! (Hazel made the custom helmet, PEDRO made it openable.)

I believe pictures can't be included here, so here is a link to PEDRO's gallery: http://www.flickr.com/photos/48907904@N06/sets/72157624104163610/with/4528801537/

It's just proof that it can be done! LEGO should have consulted them beforehand! We don't need MegaBloks to make this helmet great!...)c:

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 06 Apr 2012 18:40

The helmet looks good, but think the figure would look a whole lot better and less 'bobble headed' if they'd just given him body armour as well.

In response to comments above - Iron Man was yellow and red in the original comics. And there are two diff figs with diff arc reactors as he changes suit/upgrades from the triangle to the back to the original circle in the upcoming film as the director prefered the classic look. I concur.

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 06 Apr 2012 18:43

I agree with Andhe, he would look less bobble head-ish if he had body armor. Still, the flip up helmet is awesome.

Posted by ibes007 in United States, 06 Apr 2012 19:34

Three ways to still fix Iron Man

1. Body armor plus no exposed neck
2. Make the helmet 33% smaller than it currently is plus no exposed neck.
3. I bought mine from http://stores.ebay.com/custombricksandminifigs, good alternative.

Posted by AETerry in United States, 06 Apr 2012 20:09

Bobble head. I can't help it when ever I see this Ironman minifigure. Helmet's too big.

Posted by MatrixQuest in United States, 06 Apr 2012 20:58

It looks too much like the over sized head MegaBlocks figure...Rather have a painted head if it is going to be this big.

Posted by sarlacc98 in United Kingdom, 06 Apr 2012 22:43

I like although I agree that the helmet is still a little to big.

Posted by deathwatch in Hong Kong, 07 Apr 2012 10:29

Why don't we replace tony's head with a red minifigure head so it won't look like that Iron Man has an exposed neck.

Posted by platinum805 in United States, 07 Apr 2012 11:04

captain america needed to have a helmet or a hat, he needed anikins pod-racing helmet thats dark blue with a "A" on the top of it.

Posted by Goldmatt in United States, 07 Apr 2012 11:36

@MatrixQuest If you would like to pay $350 for NY Toyfair Iron Man with print face then....
@platinum805 Agree with you 110%

Posted by Mirakle in France, 07 Apr 2012 13:54

It looks great but it would be better with goldy arms.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 07 Apr 2012 16:38

^^I agree...I wish they'd make just about all the characters with a removable 'mask'/helmet. Their alter-egos are a big part of the comics and for me, I'd love to see that more in these figs.

That's why I like this Iron Man so much. His helm is a little too big but it works nice w/the flip up feature and we get Tony Stark too. Plus with Lego figs...I always thought they were meant to be out of proportion and cartoony in nature. That was part of their charm. Not to be super accurate. If people want that, then you have to have all kinds of articulation, so just as well get regular action figures then.

Easy fix...on Iron Man...just use the armor from the Series 7 Space Marine and voila' he's more in proportion.
Plus you can mix and match various armors (if Lego designs them) for Stark's different suits based on one's from the comics.

Posted by Reekardoo in Portugal, 07 Apr 2012 23:27

If he'd wear an armour all flaws would fade ... head wouldn't seem so big and neck would be covered. a simple solution but I guess creating a sepcific mold for an armour to fit that helmet might betoo expensive (NOT)

Posted by omnius in United Kingdom, 08 Apr 2012 06:26

I like it. At the risk of kicking the proverbial hornets' nest, I think people are expecting too much from a Lego minifigure in terms of detail/proportions.

Posted by brettnavinskie in United States, 08 Apr 2012 13:26

I agree. People should stop throwing fits because it doesn't have a perfect shape or whatever. It's LEGO'S! Enjoy it.

Posted by Storm-Reaper in United States, 08 Apr 2012 20:31

It seems that Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, ect. have bigger masks than Iron Man so I don't know what the problem is with the mask. I'd like to add that does Vader look like a bobble-head without a chestplate/armor? Or Stormtroopers? That's my opinion, no disrespect to anyone. And Happy Easter! :D

I WAS going to buy this set, but I didn't feel like paying the extra three dollars so I went to Walmart and got 6862 (since they didn't have the Marvel sets and I'm more of a DC fan anyways) but I have made it an objective to obtain this minifig!

Posted by CamberbrickGreen in United Kingdom, 10 Apr 2012 06:50

Would it nod if I put it in the back of the car?
Its pretty great but I personally preferred that annoyingly rare print version. They could have made a helmet the thickness as the old Space type and with an equally reduced visor, add some etched design lines, it would have been proportioned... how chunky can MFs get?
