6866 Wolverine's Chopper Showdown - the minifigs

6866 Wolverine's Chopper ShowdownWolverine is surely one of Marvel's best-loved Super Heroes, probably as a result of Hugh Jackman's portrayal of him in the X-Men movies. It's great, therefore, that LEGO has released a Wolverine set in this first wave of Marvel sets, even though (as far as I know) there isn't a new X-Men movie out this year.

6866 Wolverine's Chopper Showdown features 3 minifigs: Wolverine, Deadpool and Magneto, a helicopter and a motorbike. I'll hopefully get to build the 'copter later today.

I think it's a great representation of Hugh Jackman although the hair is perhaps a little too pointy in the corners. His blades, that attach like those in the Prince Of Persia sets, look suitably vicious. The yellow jump suit appears to be reasonably accurate, if the Marvel directory is anything to go by (and I guess it should be!)

6866 Wolverine's Chopper ShowdownMagneto looks great in red and purple, and features a new helmet.

6866 Wolverine's Chopper ShowdownDeadpool is pretty cool, too. He comes with two ninja swords (not shown) in addition to this Alien Conquest blaster.

I am not a Marvel expert by any means but having researched the characters in the Marvel directory, it looks as if LEGO has done an excellent job of representing them in minifig form.

Update: I've put photos of the helicopter on flickr.

Stop making me buy lego! ;-)

Isn't it "portrayal"?

Posted by avacadoturban in United Kingdom, 07 Apr 2012 08:48

Without a doubt this is the best Marvel set, although Wolverine's hair doesn't quite cover his double-sided head print at the back; that's the only drawback I can think of.

^^ Yes it is, thank you...

As a Marvel fan, I can say that these are very good representations of those found in the comics. The classic yellow jumpsuit is extremely detailed, and is very similar to those found in the comics. The hair piece does actualy look like the hair in the comics, it is much more groomed than the hair of Hugh Jackman. Magneto also looks detailed, and again is a good representation, allthough it would of been better if it came with a gray hair piece. Finaly Deadpool, who is a fan fave; and who dosent appear in the films (in his comic outfit), also looks superb. As with the minifig- he carrys swords and a sword holster. My only complaint would be that Deadpool uses a machene gun, rater that a wierd pistol.

Love these figures...

Deadpool is almost perfect...... but where's his teleportation device?

Posted by kaboomlegoman in United States, 07 Apr 2012 09:33

Deadpool is AWESOME! LOL he was in a Spiderman game called Shattered Dimensions too. XD Awesome minifigures, just that Wolverine's claws are supposed to come out of his wrists. I wish they'd done something like with the handcuffs in city sets to attach to his wrists instead of making him hold them. Magneto looks great, but I don't know anything about him so... CYA!

Posted by Rockman Xtreme in United States, 07 Apr 2012 09:43

Yeah, they did a GREAT job, even on magneto, (portrayed in movies by Ian Mckellan, who also portrays GANDALF from LOTR!) Deadpool is my fave marvel dude, and wolverine is fierce! I ordered this set and it will arrive the 11th. CANT WAIT!!!!!

Posted by TheConverter15 in United Kingdom, 07 Apr 2012 09:45

@ deathwatch: I was under the impression his teleporting ability was from a mutation he was given after Weapon X.

I do have to say that as a Marvel Fan, I do love the X-Men and this set will probably be brought by me sometime soon. I did feel the Iron Man and Captain America should be first on my list though. I am glad they did the Astonishing costume without the mask, that would have been disasterous!! :)

As another Marvel fan, especially an X-Men fan, these are almost perfect except for the fact Wolvey doesn't have his mask. Huw, I'd recommend going to your local comic shop and picking up a few deadpool comics. Chances are, if you weren't a fan before, you will be when you leave.

The only flaw id like to point out is that the wolverine character NEVER wore that outfit in the movies, if that wolverine is based on the Hugh Jackman one. The outfit is exlusive to the original comic book version of wolverine. Apart from that this is well worth getting.

Deadpool looks pretty incomplete.. that head stud bothers me to no end.. that being my only complaint.. they look pretty great.

Posted by Goldmatt in United States, 07 Apr 2012 11:31

Is the motorcycle new or is it Chauchilla Cemetary re-release?

Posted by murphquake in United States, 07 Apr 2012 11:53

Kaboomlegoman, Wolverine's claws come out of the back of his hands just behind his knuckles, or in the movies almost between his fingers.

Huw, I'm pretty sure Wolvie was HUGELY popular well before Jackman ever got the part, though I think he's done a really nice job.

Glad to see ANOTHER! set of purple hands. I've mentioned before being infatuated with the monochrome minifig concept and one color that isn't doable is purple, no hand or head but now we're one step closer.

Thank goodness that Deadpool is how he should be, and not the Weapon 11 from X-men Origins: Wolverine.

Either way, a nice set of figs.

How much is this set supposed to be?
If it is at 20 or under it is a nice set (it would be nicer at 10-15) Just because you get three popular characters in the Marvel universe BUT why Magneto? He is the worse guy Wolverine can come across.... They could do Sabertooth, or someone else?

The motorcycle body is the same mold as the cemetery battle but Silver from the looks of things..
I really want that cycle...

Y'know, this version of Wolverine is not based on Hugh Jackman's portrayal of him at all, but on the comic book version...

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 07 Apr 2012 16:40

Nailed all three figs here. Comic reference spot on. Plus the helicopter has a nice color scheme. Looks good overall.

Posted by Duchessa in Sweden, 07 Apr 2012 17:25

Ok, I wasn't planning on getting any of the Super Heroes sets. I just changed my mind. This one is great!

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 07 Apr 2012 18:13

Despite not being an official movie tie-in, bunching the characters of magneto, wolverine and deadpool along with a helicopter is an obvious nod to the movies. The magneto fig looks great in real life (does this mean Ian MacKellen is in the two figs club?) but was slightly disappointed in the wolverine fig. The claws make it impossible to hold onto the bike, but I don't know how they could have done this differently without a new hand mould. The plastic also looks... Outsourced... The yellow just doesn't seem as vibrant or glossy as it should do... :( Also you can see the other side of his face beneath his hair line... But saying that, I think its a great buy for £20.

I want this set just for Magneto, Deadpool and Wolverine are a bonus.

Posted by Okay in United States, 07 Apr 2012 22:20

Well, there is a Wolverine movie coming out next year, but it doesn't have anything to do with Magneto or Deadpool. But Wolverine is always popular. They're rerunning Wolverine and the X-Men and Super Hero Squad Show right now, and he is going to appear in an episode of Ultimate Spider-Man, so plenty of reason to bring out this set.

Wolverine is a disppointement
because it is neither the comic nor the movie version... in comics he has hair like that but the colour scheme could be improved - that's not the right blue nor yellow. Also he wears boots and I can't see a print of that. To be perfect he should have a helmet option like in the comics... sort of like catwoman's but with the pointy sides. If Lego was trying to make similarities with the movies, it failed in the torso but got downright with the face and hair. 68/100

Magneto is cool
As faithful as it can get from the comic books - love the helmet - I'd just put a more menacing face - 88/100

Deadpool is dead cool - pretty accurate and my favourite - 95/100

P.S. - Why isn't there a HELMET in THOR's minifigure... damned movie adaptations...actually the helmet in the movie was pretty cool

Wow, I wasn't to excited about the Marvel Superheroes sets at first. but seeing these mini reviews makes me want to buy them.

Posted by jengafett in United Kingdom, 08 Apr 2012 01:49

wolverine dosn`t always wear yellow and blue. my brothers favourite marvel character is wolverine so he bought a hair piece (the one in the set!) and 2 prince of persia assasin 3 clawed blade weapon and attached them onto wolverines head (indiana jones!) and the body and legs from the robber whering black in set: 4853, it looked pretty good 2 years ago, but I could find lots of better heads now!

I received my set in the mail yesterday and completed it immediatey. I am pleased with the model and minifigures. Wolverine, like many comic book characters, have many looks and I think Lego did a good job. I wonder if they will produce additional costumes for Wolverine in future sets... of course after they do many of the other Marvel characters.

@deathwatch. Deadpool's teleportation device is in his belt, which is printed on his torso.

As a reader, all these are excellent representations, not too film oriented.
Request:
*Logan in jeans, shirt/vest and jacket.
*Bone claws Logan.
*Sabretooth comic version.
*Comic character Maverick... ok thats probably asking far too much!
