I saw on Cuusoo, that Lego had asked the creator to pick one building and give more details on it.
Looks like they chose the saloon.

I for one am WAY excited for this. If they are done with the detail of the modular town piece, I would easily spend 150 on each of these

^ I would say that sales of the first one will be the driver of whether or not there are future buildings to add to the series, not having to Cuusoo vote each and every one.

Also, I hope LEGO keeps the open-back style of these rather than going full backs like the existing Modulars have. It's a nice touch along with the deeper buildings (longer sides), and full interiors that allow for diorama-style setups, and it creates a nice distinction between this series and the other Modular series. I like it.

It's clear to see the skill of the build and the fantastic detail, but I am on the fence about supporting it as I have a young daughter who loves Lego, and I am not that comfortable with the prominence of the gun store in this model. I know its for an AFOL audience, but guns (in a realistic sense) are not my thing at all, and anything that potentially gives them prominence in what is a toy is not for me.

I must say the UCS Sandcrawler the guy built is fantastic, and I will be supporting without question.

Yes! Best thing to come out of CUUSOO, I'm 99% sure it'll pass the review, I said £200 I think. But I think TLC said if they made it that it would come out a building at a time, hence the "Modular" theme idea.

P.S. I hope the car is made as well.

While it'd certainly depend on the scope of the final product, this would definitely be the first CUUSOO project I'd be willing to buy. I'd love to see a saloon, with a bartender, a barmaid, a couple of bandits around a poker table and then a sheriff walking in the door. A classic saloon shoot-out sort of thing..

This could definitely turn into something really fantastic.

@sloopsjohng: I'm pretty sure this will get a green light from the internal review. I think I remember reading a while back that one of Lego's designers had allready started looking into designs.

@VadimD: Lets not rush ahead of ourselves to much. Sure the suggestion is for a whole theme. But I think it's expecting to much to think we'll get a whole theme straight away. We'll get one set and then we'll have to see. If it does well it might result in a whole theme.

If they have all these Cuusoo projects achieving 10,000 votes, and they start making them, that could be a lot of shelf space... I wonder if most of them will be sold on line only, or maybe someday LEGO stores will have shelf space for all CUUSOO projects rather than just one here and one there...

Even though I voted for it and think it's totally killer, I was secretly hoping it wouldn't win. I have too much freaking Lego as it is! I have one last hope. If it isn't a series but, rather, just a one-off set i won't feel obligated to get it. If it becomes a series I will have no choice but to jump in.

It'll be interesting to see what's the verdict for this one, since the AFOL community seems to like to bring this up as the 'perfect' example of what CUUSOO should have been and lament why isn't it getting the votes it deserved. Well, here we are. I admit it didn't appeal to me and still doesn't, and even now that it's finally got 10k votes I'm still not interested at all. I'd grab the DeLorean in a jiffy, but not this one.

^^^ Quite honestly I felt kind of the same way. At first it didn't appeal to me. Although I loved the old western theme and would love to see it return but when I first saw this set it was too big. I love the detail and the project in general, but I was just simply thinking of the shelf space a whole new line of modular buildings would take up. But now that it's made it to 10,000 votes I'll still buy it to support it, but I think it would have done better if it was a smaller set.

I fail to understand the optimism behind this project.
LEGO recently released a Western town set (7594) backed by a massive Hollywood franchise targeting its core demographic, and I see no indication that it did very well on the market, judging from indicators like Amazon rank and average price, ebay prices, etc.
Western films have been tanking at the box office for years. Other than 3:10 to Yuma, with two of the biggest and most surefire stars in Hollywood, and wide critical acclaim... and even that made only like $75 mil or something... peanuts in the age of Avatar.
And yet people think that LEGO will fall all over themselves to produce a hugely expensive standalone Western set of no interest to typical kids and with no marketing synergy?
It's a phenomenal MOC and the effort of AFOLs to rally for it is commendable, but I will be surprised if LEGO produces anything like it. There seems to be an assumption that because it doesn't violate the published content standards, it's golden. But how will it make money?
The Western tie-in to BTTF is a far more promising avenue to getting sets made in that thematic arena. In my opinion.

^^ Of course, modulars have never been for kids. They were a large and more intricate build for older fans. It's not that Lego doesn't like catering to a older age group, they just don't like doing it with sets that their key demographic would not be able to buy.
I think this has a very good chance of becoming a set, though I am concerned about the author picking the saloon as the building.

Now, sorry for being ignorant of this process.
But is LEGO going to approve this? If so I think it would be the first minifig model that would be approved, and Im doubting it, it seems like LEGO wants to keep this Cuusoo thing small. But I guess this display will test that :-)
It would be nice, but so far I have not see the first models be minifig scale.

My guess is there would break it into 2 sets if they were to build it, and it would probably be more around 200 than 150 with the way prices are going....
OR they will make it an official 'line' sell each set as its own for about 30-40 and then you have the option of sticking them together....
Otherwise I do not see a wide majority of people (excluding members of this forum, of course) of buying this for 400 dollars as a whole set....

I kinda chuckled at the Dark bucket.. considering the 'line' is that a minifig costs about 3 bucks (and I'm guessing with licensing a SW fig costs about 4-5 dollars) that they would need to sell the bucket for about 400-500 dollars, IF they also do not want to charge more of Vader of course.
Id love to see the UCS Sandcrawler made, but jeez is it going to be expensive

This is a wonderful set with great potential. I like the open back concept....much like a doll house. With the open design it give what's been missing in Lego toy design....the imagination and creativity of an individual of storytelling and playability. I hope Lego creates a series of open back design of this Western theme.

^^ The description sas that it's supposed to be released ad a series with one building per set. Just like the Modular Buildings series.

And it wouldn't suprise me the least if the first, and perhaps only, house to be released is the sheriffs office. I've seen that many wish for a saloon but I don't think we'll be getting one at all as at least drinking is on the no-go list. Im not sure but i think gambling was on it too...

As has been said, the chances are good for this one. I just hope they keep it as close to the original as possible--it's already so beautiful. Any variance would likely take away from it.

I think if this set doesn't get some sort of a green light from TLG it will be the last nail in Cuusoo's coffin.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else pronounce it as 'ku so'. I do, and I always chuckle at what that means in Japanese.

@ninjagoyo - I say its coffin is getting nailed because we've recently seen a number of great looking projects reach the 10K mark only to be shot down. I've read several Cuusoo threads and there seems to be a lot of frustration with the concept. TLG has perfectly valid reasons not to produce those sets. They can do whatever they want. But knowing those reasons, it seems a bit misleading that these projects were allowed to get as far as they did.

Don't dangle candy in front of children only to eventually tell them "I was never going to give that to you anyway." It's misleading and rather disingenuous. There should be a review way before the 10K mark where TLG steps in and says, "be advised this is a something we can/will not produce." Then perhaps work with the designer to make instructions available through Cuusoo. Because the only hope I still hold out for vast majority of works on Cuusoo is that it enables the designers of some of these fantastic projects to post instructions on how to build them. For example, I would love to build tbone_tbl's Serenity from Firefly. I can only hope he makes the instructions available and then it's on to Bricklink.

This western modular town lacks any of the getout clauses we've seen applied to recent successful Cuusoo models. So I think this will be the one that determines whether TLG is serious about the Cuusoo concept for turning excellent MOCs into real Lego sets, or if the Cuusoo concept is really just a bunch of kuso.
