August release date for LotR and Star Wars in the UK

  • August release date for LotR and Star Wars in the UK

Posted by Huw, 25 May 2012 13:29. Filed under Shopping (UK).

Specialist retailer Forbidden Planet is now listing the summer Star Wars and LotR sets on its website, and states that they will be available on 12th August. So, that's about another 7 weeks to wait, then, although I won't be surprised if Argos has them in its Autumn/Winter catalogue that'll be out at the end of July.

Furthermore, their entry for the Desert Skiff is showing a picture of a totally different, far more appealing, model, right.

Unfortunately, it's not a picture of the set at all: bluemoose has just confirmed it's a MOC from flickr. Doh!

(thanks to flump and a smooth criminal for the news...)

Yeah, that's totally NOT the right photo.
That Desert Skiff was built by Orion Pax and is up on Flickr right here:

Talk about misrepresenting the product! :D

Orion Pax made that "set" actually...http://www.flickr.com/photos/orion_pax/7165771910/in/photostream
He added some stuff to the actual set.
EDIT: Ninja's by Zrath...haha

It's really unproffesional of FP to do this - very poor indeed.

Posted by legomatt in United Kingdom, 25 May 2012 14:10

forbidden planet - not a company i would spend a penny on.

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 25 May 2012 14:12

Wow.
Just...Wow...
That's really kind of pathetic on FP's part that they're selling a Moc as a Lego product. Though I have to say I'd pay 40/30 dollars for this set then 25 for Lego's version any day.

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 25 May 2012 14:26

^ I would too :) Generally, I think Forbidden Planet is a good company... especially they're shops. They just made a very big mistake...

^^agree on both points. Now that's how you make a Desert Skiff. FP, not cool to use his masterpiece. You have to admit the official LEGO version seems so lame in comparison. You think TLG would offer something better since it is the second go at the Desert Skiff, well third if you count the one that came with the sail barge. Orion is apparently going to make Jabbas Palace too. Can't wait to see that

Well I am disappointed that they are not being released earlier, but it seems only fair as the UK has got a lot of things before the rest of the world so far this year, so this balances it out in a way. Despite that, I am hoping that they will be out in the Argos catalogue before that, which I think it is safe to presume that they will.

I have the Fury Class Interceptor set speeding its way to me from Belgium, so I should have that in the next few days, and when I do I will be posting a review.

Guys I asked Lego on their facebook page for the LOTR release date and monster fighters release dates, they stated:

"Hi Rishi! LEGO Lord of the Rings are being released in June and the Monster Fighter sets release dates vary by country. You could see them as early as June or July, but they will be officially released everywhere by August 1st :)"

So it's confirmed LOTR is being released in June, but Monster Fighters should be out by August.

As for Star Wars, don't they usually come out in the UK near the end of July? I'm quite surprised at the prices! For example £53.99 for the Gungan Sub isn't bad at all!

A few star wars summer sets are now availabe in the Netherlands!

Posted by iefdb in Belgium, 25 May 2012 17:12

Star wars summer also already available in Belgium (Dreamland)

Posted by Darth Brick in Belgium, 25 May 2012 17:45

^ It's exactly the same in BELGIUM! I saw already ALL summer Star Wars sets except the 10225 R2-D2.
And we don't have any official Lego Brand Shop here, only ordinary toy shops ...

So for those who can't wait anymore - just cross The Chanel - and here you've got everything you want ;).

The only bad thing about those sets are definitely the PRICES!!! I will certainly wait for some discounts on them.

For example a simple 9498 "Saesee Tiin's Starfighter" is for 39,99€ (normal retail price) when a similar sized 8093 "Plo Koon's Jedi Starfighter" was at 25€ with possibility of buying at 20€ or even less just 1,5 years ago.
15€ difference at normal retail price for just one minifig more and few % of the inflation rate???

That's a little bit exaggerate, don't you think...

Not surprised that the Skiff isn't real; it looked way too MOCish. :-P

Posted by Zacherano in United States, 25 May 2012 18:25

Just taking a look at the person's flickr page, he has some incredible MOCs! He probably has some kind of a background in architecture or design - he's really good.

I visited one of the newly opened LEGO stores here (U.S.) in the Northeast and because it's such a large store, not only did they have lots of the old stock that LEGO has pulled from its smaller stores and sells online only, but they had all LoTR and Monster Fighters sets, Castle Chess :D, Heroica Ilrion, most new Ninjago Spinners, boosters packs and all sets (one Epic Dragon Battle left!) and a few new-to-me exclusives: Boy & Girl Surfer with Hula Girl, a parrot, a grill charring food (just kidding, the food looked normal), and I think a palm tree...all for $14.99 USD, and a Ninjago card display (akin to the Shrine card holder) with Rattla minifig and holographic card, also for $14.99 USD.

Sorry, I can't tell you a thing about SW because my son's not interested in those. Many new sets were in evidence today, however -- pretty exciting!

I'm waiting for the LOTR to be released in Belgium. Almost got a heartattack when I saw released 12th August! I really hope it will be sooner ^-^

Bluemoose nothing! I was the one who first pointed out it was a MOC and gave the link to Flickr. :D
I'm neither blue nor a moose, I'm a Kzin and I'm dark grey. :D
