Super Heroes minifig gallery published

Posted by Huw, 10 Jun 2012 05:27. Filed under Brickset.

I've just completed the Super Heroes minifig gallery for your enjoyment. It includes them all except for the Batman and Green Lantern Comic-Con exclusives, which I don't have.

It does, however, include the other two rare-as-rocking-horse-droppings New York Toy Fair exclusives, Iron man with printed head and Captain America.

These two highly sought-after figs can be yours: I'm giving them away in a competition! Keep an eye out over the next few weeks for full details.

Amazing as always Huw, Thanks. You've also cleared up who Black Widow is as my Marvel Characters Knowledge was very limited before these figures came out.

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 10 Jun 2012 05:48

Hm... the two Toy Fair exclusives have poorer printing than the other minifigs... It shows they were a limited production! :P

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 05:51

Thanks Huw!! great photos :)
@ Jacob Wilson - I think you need to learn to be more grateful when someone's put in lots of effort for the benefit of others!
Now I can see why printing iron man's head wasn't such a good idea!

Posted by Frederick B. in Norway, 10 Jun 2012 05:53

great gallery, but it seems you have mistakenly put Black Widow in the dc villian section.

Posted by deathwatch in Hong Kong, 10 Jun 2012 06:18

Thanks a lot, Huw! These galleries always help me plan which sets to buy or not to buy if I am to collect all the characters, spending as little as possible.
I also have a few suggestions to this gallery. It is almost perfect, but perhaps you can put in Green Lantern in the DC section too. Also, Deadpool is not exactly a villain, he's a mercenary, so perhaps you can count him as "neutral" or something like that? :P

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 06:23

@JackSparrow2, thank you, now corrected.

@Alemas, the printing is as good as on the others. They are proper figs (i.e. not made in China) so are high quality.

@deathwatch, if I had GL, I would. I'm no X-men expert, but to avoid having three groups with one figure in each, I've now just created one called X-Men. We can always expand that, if or (hopefully) when LEGO produce more.

@Jacob Wilson, I didn't see what you wrote, perhaps it's just as well :-)

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 06:28

That looks great Huw, many thanks.

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 10 Jun 2012 06:28

@Huw: If you compare the two Captain Americas, the exclusive one doesn't have very "crisp" printing. The blank lines sometimes don't seem very black (some white shows through), and the big "A" on the forehead doesn't have clear-cut edges.

Great photography as always Huw and a very useful resource.

@Huw - On another topic, are you planning on posting reviews on the new Star Wars set on the front page like you did with Lord of the Rings?

Posted by legoguy2805 in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 07:18

Great pics as always Huw, many thanks!

Unless I'm mistaken, I think a long while ago you said that you ordered all the Star Wars minifigures from Bricklink to create a gallery with. Are you going to resume that project? If so, that'd be even better! :-)

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 07:21

@ Jacob Wilson - no worries. just out of interest, how did u change the comment? I thought it was too late after another person had written underneath?? :)

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 07:30

^^ Although I have all the SW figs, some of them are in MISB sets, and at the moment I'm reluctant to open them. But, I suspect I will do eventually. After all what's the point of having them otherwise...

^^^ Probably, starting this afternoon, hopefully...

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 08:17

^^Excellent, looking forward to hearing your thoughts! I have some of them myself and have just reviewed the Fury-Class Interceptor.

I am interested to hear about this competition of which you speak (the prices those figures go for on Bricklink are ludicrous so this could be a great way to get them for somebody!)

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 08:20

@ Jacob Wilson - oh yeah, thanks :)

Awesome gallery as always Huw. I always prefer yours to Brick links photos.

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 10 Jun 2012 09:33

Thank you. Nice clean consistent photos of my favorite theme. I cannot wait to have Spiderman and friends added to the gallery and my collection in a few months.

I only wish you photographed Capt America with his shield and Thor with his hammer as they are virtually inseparable appendages of each minifig such as Wolverines claws or Superman's cape. I know it is a slippery slope, but they look naked without them.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 10:19

Good point, I did wonder about that, but generally I follow the BrickLink convention of what constitutes a minifig, although I did give wolverine his claws and didn't put the round 1x1 trans blue bricks on Iron Man's feet, which they have done at BL for some reason.

Posted by bradbean in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 10:45

Isn't Bruce Wayne technically a hero as he is sort of a 'good guy', rather that a neutral, like the security guard?? Also, shouldn't at least the big hulk be in the Marvel:Avengers section, rather than one on its own with the same name but with the promo hulk?? I mean big hulk is an avenger, but promo hulk is more of a comic book style
Anyway, great pics and looking forward to the star wars reviews.
Much better than revision!!

No spider-man?

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 11:41

Yes, he's here http://www.brickset.com/minifigs/gallery/?theme=Spider%20Man

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 11:42

^^^ The large hulk is separated from the other Avengers primarily for aesthetic reasons.

Posted by bluemodern in United States, 10 Jun 2012 12:05

Huw, have you considered merging the Super Heroes gallery with the older Batman and Spiderman ones? It would be nice to see them all in one place.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 12:13

Yes I have, and I'm planning on doing so soon, once I've made a few tweaks to allow for it.

Posted by bluemodern in United States, 10 Jun 2012 12:23

^Awesome! The galleries look great!

Posted by SapmiSatan in Norway, 10 Jun 2012 12:37

Great job as always, Huw! I was just wondering about the classification of Bruce Wayne... While I know there are no other alter egos in this line yet, I think it would be better if you filed him under "Alter Egos". Then the guard could remain "Other", or be classified as "Police", "Law Enforcement", or "Whatever". I know it would look kind of wrong, but it would be more right.

Thanks so much, Huw! This gallery looks superb.

Posted by TheConverter15 in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 12:54

Thanks for this new gallery and the LOTR one as well Huw! Great stuff :) Very interested with that competition, I must own them :D

Posted by bradbean in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 13:38

@ Huw I see... thanks fot the info!

Posted by Evil_Do0d in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 14:31

@Huw; just out interest, do you plan on updating the Harry Potter and POTC galleries soon?

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 15:37

^ Yes -- HP needs to be redone at some point now I've got better at it.

Posted by Captain Jack Sparrow in United States, 10 Jun 2012 19:13

Are you going to include the SDCC Green Lantern & Batman minifigs soon? :)

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 10 Jun 2012 20:17

Just a small thing, but you photographed Catwoman with her Selina Kyle face showing, instead of her eye-mask face. :)

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 21:06

Thanks for the gallery. The pics look very nice as always :)

On a side note it looks as though you put Hulk in a 'Mavel: Avengers' group, but it's separate from all the other Avengers. It's probably just a mistake, but I wanted to point that out to you ;)

Posted by NeilJam in United States, 10 Jun 2012 21:08

About merging the current Super Heroes with the older Batman and Spider-Man stuff: I'd like to see all those minifigs and sets added under Super Heroes. I know those sets weren't officially called Super Heroes when released, but it would make sense to consider them sub-themes of it retroactively.

Posted by Brickman193 in Australia, 10 Jun 2012 21:15

I wouldn't mind seeing Batman 2006 added as a sub-theme, but keep Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 separate, I reckon.

Posted by sidersdd in United States, 10 Jun 2012 22:25

@Huw - Iron Man has the trans blue bricks on his feet at Bricklink because their convention is to include footwear/footgear, but not hand items. I'm guessing this stems from diver figs and skiing figs where their flippers and skis are core to the fig.

Posted by rokrbbc in Brazil, 10 Jun 2012 23:34

Hi, thanks a lot for the pictures! You're so lucky for have all of them!
Can't wait for Star Wars!

How are the two black Batman figs different?

Posted by Sparky Ham in Hong Kong, 11 Jun 2012 03:58

Where are super-hero Sponge Bob and Patrick? :p

Interesting little problem at the bottom of the news feed it looks like, we seem to have gone back to this article: http://www.brickset.com/news/article/?ID=2906!

Posted by shawn1818 in United States, 11 Jun 2012 09:35

Why are the black Batman seperate? Aren't they the same minifig

No, see ^^^^^

Huw, how many Lego sets do you own and where do you store them all? I hope Lego gives you an employee discount for all your work.

Thanks

Excellent pictures, Huw! I suspect most people don't realise how fiddly macro photography is. You've done a professional job. If you're not a pro photographer, you could be.

I'm really looking forwards to the single page showing all super heroes from the Super Heroes, Batman and Spider-man themes. Having all the Batmen side by side will be particularly impressive. Please let us know in the News section when that's done.

Thanks for your marvellous effort!

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 11 Jun 2012 10:01

@Mequel De Vaughn - http://www.brickset.com/search/?OwnedBy=Huw Prepare to be impressed.

All this Spider-man talk got me thinking (and pining after) the new set later this year: http://brickset.com/news/article/?ID=3302

Posted by FizzleMeSexy in United States, 11 Jun 2012 13:09

Just re-checked the spiderman link http://www.brickset.com/minifigs/gallery/?theme=Spider%20Man
and noticed that spiderman sets say "DC Universe" heroes, villains, or other. Not sure if you plan on merging this and batman into the superheroes [would be nice] but if you were, Spiderman is marvel.

Huw, I do have a Batman and Green Lantern from NYCC. I could set up and snap a photo...

Posted by Mequel De Vaughn in United States, 11 Jun 2012 14:16

WOW I wonder how many sets he has displayed. I would never leave my home if I had all those sets!! I did notice he is missing the UCS Millenium Falcon which is surprising.

I can't wait for the give-away! Those figures are really expensive on eBay, and this will be a great opportunity to get them! Thanks a ton, Huw!
