Clearly LEGO and Amazon can't shift them, even at that discount.

Then the companies should donate them (even at full retail if they want) and make some underprivileged child happy. Have you checked ebay on this set? There is no way they're going to move them - plus there is not enough purple bricks to use with Lego Friends.
