8909: Team GB minifigs - Complete Set
    Collectable Minifigures/Team GB, 2012
    More details...
    ©2012 LEGO Group

First, let me thank grogall for this picture of the Team GB minifigs. Secondly, and perhaps more excitingly, they are now available! There are reports in the forum that they have been found in quite a few branches of John Lewis, and they are turning up on eBay (see the side panel on this page).

However, we've heard that WHS will be charging £2.49 for them, rather than £1.99. I don't know the price in John Lewis, perhaps someone can let us know if they too have increased the price.

Fantastic! I love the bases for each of them and I am sure these will become real collectors items in the future. Good to see they come with gold medals, hopeful.

I guess the .50 increase is due to the plate and probable licensing for them.

Wow, those are so cool! Love the squinting archer. Printed white plate is a great touch. Congrats!
EDIT: Just ordered all 9! Not too bad on ebay!

Posted by fitzyfitz in United Kingdom, 21 Jun 2012 18:42

Sorry, wasn't paying that much attention when I saw them earlier - I think they were £1.95 but I'm not 100% sure.

Posted by BJ21 in United Kingdom, 21 Jun 2012 19:04

Ahh! I was in JL earlier today as well, should've had a look. I'm in St Pancras tomorrow, do you reckon the London 2012 shop may have them?

Posted by BigOnBricks in United States, 21 Jun 2012 19:17

I just ordered all 9 on Ebay. I must have these

If anyone finds a place, other than Ebay or Bricklink, where those of us across the pond could gain them, please share. Just a fan of minifigures looking to display these wonderful athletes :)

Posted by dcoe in United States, 22 Jun 2012 00:43

Does anyone know how many minifigs are in a case?

Posted by obiron17 in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 02:55

I work at LOCOG head office in Canary Wharf and we haven't had them in the shop yet! (mind you it is closing down in a week as most of us are moving on venue for Games Time).

These will eventually show up at S@H right?

Posted by Nesquik in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 05:08

Just when you start saving up for the Town Hall, these guys come along!

TLG are hurting my wallet badly this year.

Posted by wRuB in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 05:50

£1.95 at JL

Posted by Be-Burger in Israel, 22 Jun 2012 06:32

Hmm... I need to get some, somehow :)

Posted by legoman67 in Netherlands, 22 Jun 2012 06:44

Who can help me to get them, I am in The Netherlands. Perhaps I can do something for you in return.

Posted by richselby in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 06:54

@legoman67 and Be-Burger: I have offered to obtain sets of GB figures for some BrickLink readers.
I am happy to do my best to get you some if you like. But it as it takes time to get stock, sort, identify, post etc, I have to charge you more than it costs me per pack. My email is on the contact page.

WHSmith's Lego prices are always about 25% higher than anywhere else

Posted by Renegade007cjh in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 07:17

^ Very true... sometimes they're particularly cheeky by putting the prices up by 25% then putting a big "20% off" sticker on the shelf, to bring them down to slightly-above RRP, but fooling people into thinking they've got a bit of a bargain.

Strange though, their minifigures are normally the usual £1.99... will have to see if there are any money off vouchers kicking around.

I asked yesterday at my local LEGO store when they'd be in stock, and they said Sunday :-)

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 08:03

John Lewis have them in the stockroom and some branches are selling them, but not mine, which is sticking to the July 1st release date... :-(

@renegade007cjgh - check out this forum thread http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/3563/uk-lego-bargain-at-whsmith

Posted by richselby in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 08:28

Just had a word with a sales agent at the John Lewis Stratford (Westfield) branch, they are not allowed to sell them until July 1st.

Posted by Renegade007cjh in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 09:04

^^ Thanks for the link @LostInTranslation - will be trotting off to spend some money, methinks!!

Posted by richselby in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 10:10

Same story for John Lewis Oxford Street - not until 1st July.

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 11:04

I'll have a look for these tomorrow, can't wait to get them. If you look at the photos on the eBay seller's site, the print quality looks superb. I really hope that there isn't that 50p increase, it sounds small but can really add up!

Posted by lewis24 in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 11:28

I can't wait... just had a look on ebay and the whole set is selling for around £30.00 + £5.00 P&P which is about £3.33 each... rather expensive... i'll stick to getting them in the shops....

Does anyone have any idea of the box distribution, how many complete sets in each box

Posted by matt71young in United Kingdom, 23 Jun 2012 10:55

I have just got the complete set from my Local WHSmiths (small branch Brighton) - price it says £1.99 but when I bought one (boxer) to get the list inside on the till it came up £2.49 however it was clearly labelled £1.99.

With any purchase you get a spend £15 save £5 valid from 2nd July - 15th July so if you want to wait buy one now to get the voucher and the other 8 later and get them all for £12.91 (think I got my sums right there).

Distribution seems pretty even at least 4 of each per box I reckon (but maybe more) though I did go through the whole box to get 3 complete sets (one for me and 2 friends).

So I hope you can find a WH Smiths that has them at regular price (I know station stores do hike up the price of all minifigures to £2.49 so avoid them).

The dots are useful but go for the olde feeling technique most of the way and they are a bit more difficult to find as they are quite similar but there are obvious clues - tennis racket, boxing glove hands and head protector, weights, gym bar etc - otherwise its down to the hair but it can be worked out.

Hope this is useful.

Posted by matt71young in United Kingdom, 23 Jun 2012 11:04

Sorry should have confirmed that I got them for £1.99 each.

And the complete list of give aways on which figure it is are:

Horserider - hat with ponytail - its one piece

Karate - hair with bob at back but no gym bar pieces (has same hair as gymnast)

Relay runner- pole (and no weights - bar is the same)

Tennis player - racket

Weightlifter - bar and weights

Swimmer - swimming cap

Gymnast - I 1 x 4 piece and 2 1 x1 blocks

Archer - bow

Boxer - gloved hands and head protector

: )

Checked my local Argos, WHSmith and Asda (Hamilton), but no luck. None of them had any new wave sets, either. Maybe next week.

Also, to anyone that has found them: is the Weightlifter's hair Tan (the same as the S3 Racer's) or new in Dark Tan? If it's the former it's an easy pass, but if it's the latter I'll have to pick it up.

Posted by legoboy12345678 in United Kingdom, 23 Jun 2012 13:46

My local WH smith didn't have a clue what I was on about, all they said was come back during the week when they get a delivery.

Posted by jallan13 in United Kingdom, 23 Jun 2012 16:17

The weightlifters hair is tan, exactly the same as racing car driver

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 23 Jun 2012 17:56

Okay, thanks. It would have been nice to get a new colour, but at least that's one less thing I have to spend money on!

Posted by matt71young in United Kingdom, 24 Jun 2012 04:59

But the weight lifter is great! How can you leave him out? The weight lifter from series 2 was one of my favourites.

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 24 Jun 2012 12:30

Well I'm trying to save as much money as possible (yep, even the £2) and I mainly collect females and hairpieces. The weightlifter is neither female or has a new hairpiece, so he's off the list. The only ones I'm going to try and get from here are the Gymnast, Archer (love both those hair colours), Equestrian, Judo and Relay.
