Lex Luthor hits the streets

30164 Lex LuthorI received my LEGO Batman 2 video game today, with free 30164 Lex Luthor minifig, and very nice he is too.

Unlike the shirtless Darth Maul and the Hulk promotional figures, the actual minifig is NOT made in China so is top quality. I suspect the armour is, but like other similar parts that are made there, it too is top quality.

The only criticism I can make is that his bad-ass gun is waaay too big and heavy that he can't hold it without tipping over. I had to use Blu-Tac to pose him for this picture :-)

30164 Lex Luthor30164 Lex LuthorThe armour is great. The back has two rods pointing downwards on which to mount 2 cones, presumably these are rockets to enable him to fly?

I have no intention of playing the game [1] (too busy playing with real bricks, or maintaining Brickset!) so I bought the cheapest version of it, the PC version, for £17.99. You can order it from Amazon.co.uk.

I'm not sure if it's available in the USA: Amazon.com has the game listed but there's no mention of the free figure.

I'll get him added to the Super Heroes minifig gallery soon, along with the Green Lantern and Batman promotional figures that I've been loaned.

[1] so if you wanna buy the game from me without the figure for a tenner, get in touch :-)

I remember this game came out on my birthday I completed it on the same day and just unlocked everything last night - LOL - the game was great!

I'll take the game for GBP10 :)

Posted by ncbarrett in United States, 22 Jun 2012 10:46

i just want his armor, since it matches the galaxy patrol armor

Posted by Brickmeister1138 in United States, 22 Jun 2012 10:47

I got the game and figure on the 19th here in the US. The big and bad@$$ gun is actually an important weapon in the game called the Deconstructor, which can destroy black Lego constructs in game (i.e. everything Batman uses), hence the three black bricks included in this set. I am pleased both with the game and the figure.

@Brickmeister1138, thanks for that background information!

@ALSTDA, drop me a line, then, huw@brickset.com

I tried the demo on the 3DS. It was fun but wasn't anything I hadn't played before.

Posted by Modok in United States, 22 Jun 2012 11:02

That's cool...he's wearing his old DC Super Powers armor.

Posted by the_real_indy in United States, 22 Jun 2012 11:41

Yes, like BrickMeister said, the gun is huge, but it is specific to the game, and brick-built in the game just like that.

He can also hold the gun at rest, across both hands.

He can stand on the 3 blocks to make a stable base, or of course you can put him on an extra CMF minifig stand.

His torso print is also excellent and authentic to the comics.

The game is super fun so far... I'm just going to play a level a day and enjoy the depth of the world at my leisure!

Still waiting the game to be shipped by Amazon UK. Pre-ordered it few weeks ago from them since the minifigure is not available in Italy (not even from Gamestop).

Posted by the_real_indy in United States, 22 Jun 2012 11:47

I also totally love the way that they have such a tight synergy now between the game designers and the real brick set designers... So playing the games is like the "ultimate preview" for sets, scenes, or minifigs that might be made in the near future, or areas that might simply be too gigantic to ever make, like the real full-size Batcave area in the game! So it's kind of like Cuusoo, but more official!! Can we vote on things we see in the game??!! Seriously, ask them! =D Alternately, someone could just take a screenshot of something brick-built in the game and put it up on Cuusoo as a quick and easy way of sending a message that we want them to make something "in the bricks"! Obviously, the poster would not and could not get any royalties for reposting their own design, but it would be a quick and easy way of telling them "we want this"! Some people re-posted build designs from Lego Universe, and they just added text that made it clear that the goal was to put something up for the whole community's benefit, and that they know they can't get royalties obviously, and TLG allowed voting, so why not?! =D

I got the game via Amazon (US) and no fig, I have the codes for the 'skins' that I received via email, but no figure.

It's a jet-pack.

Got mine this morning I took the polybag and gave my the wife the game and she is looking forward to playing it later. Cant believe we saw the figure was on ebay last night from £20 upwards. Cheaper to buy the game with the figure then sell the game.

According to the Brickset listing for 30164, this set has still not been released. :)

Mine arrived yesterday. Looking forward to playing the game, but just super excited that they made the Luthor Warsuit version in minifig form in the first place.

Posted by hallows81 in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 12:57

I went to Asda at midnight and got mine so I could play for a hour or so before bed. I must say the figure is great.

I played the 1st Batman game and my kids and I found it really good and entertaining. It was the best Lego game we had played, after hearing the Superman theme tune during my play last night though I instantly fell in love with this one (being a huge Superman fan I have been excited since the license announcement, Lego and DC together = my heaven). The added justice league and baddie characters are a great addition to Batman 1.

I have all the new Superheroes figures now and found this game has given me a better appreciation for the actual sets. It has now made me want to purchase some more of the vehicles that I previously would not of bought. Banes Drill for instance.

I would love Lego to produce another wave of Superheroes and bring in more characters like Flash, martian manhunter and some new versions of nightwing, penguin etc. They could also do more Marvel, maybe expand on the Xmen. IF they do though could they please allow my wallet to cool down from the LOTR release first

The figures are about £10 on ebay now.

I'm lucky I knew someone at gamestop and he gave me one for free.

Posted by Rockman Xtreme in United States, 22 Jun 2012 14:12

My 8 year old brother got it the day it came out WITH the Lex.... he's a real lucky ducky! :D

Posted by Legolover9531 in United States, 22 Jun 2012 14:27

I got it Tuesday and I just finished story mode. I love both the game and minifigure!

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 15:31

Mine arrived today as well, very nice Minifigure indeed!

Posted by psychopuppet in United States, 22 Jun 2012 15:42

I got mine on Tuesday from Gamestop when they opened at 9am. Figure is pretty nice. Also got the Villain DLC pack for pre-ordering. I finished the main story last night. Today I went around finding all the remote Bat Computer terminals. After playing and seeing all the different hero's and sets that could be part of another wave I hope we get another wave this year. Maybe this time less focus on Batman and more on the others. Really at least a Green Lantern set with a transparent green vehicle would make me happy.

Posted by bmwlego in United States, 22 Jun 2012 17:02

Huw-Any pic gallery entry of this fig should show Lex's printed torso as this is quite a fantastic element.

I don't like licensed themes, so not a fan...But...I'm confused...I've never seen any profanity on Brickset before; now, within a matter of a few days, there are two occurrences...Why?

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 22 Jun 2012 17:46

Given the word in question is used in the title of Hollywood movies, I thoght that, surely, nobody would take offence, but it seems you young Americans are a sensitive bunch :-)

Posted by Legolover9531 in United States, 22 Jun 2012 18:04

^^^^I also got the villains pack but I've yet to play any of them XD

Posted by UtarEmpire in United States, 22 Jun 2012 18:49

I'm sorry, but the China comments right on the front page are starting to become very offensive. One of the most popular LEGO sites on the net really needs to start thinking about being more sensitive.

Posted by Margot in United States, 22 Jun 2012 19:02

Well, the Hulk promo figure is cheapo. I didn't know it was made in China until now. If the made in China Legos are inferior quality why shouldn't comments be made about it?

Posted by SeijiAmasawa in United States, 22 Jun 2012 19:54

Bought mine the day it came out and the game is better than I thought it would be. It's an excellent marketing tool for the DC Superheroes Lego. I must have them all!

Posted by dmm32552 in United States, 22 Jun 2012 20:54

Man, this sucks. All going for $20+ on ebay currently. I hope for we US folk that Amazon decides to sell this for $2.99 like they did for a period of time with the Jack Sparrow Voo Doo fig that was being used as a Toys R Us promotion for the POTC LEGO game.

Posted by (-)-Crushmaster-(-) in United States, 22 Jun 2012 22:16

@Huw: This young American dislikes Hollywood strongly. :-D
@LEGOlas1: It is typically - always - regarded as profanity; swearing.

Posted by teal93mr2 in United States, 22 Jun 2012 23:43

I have an extra lex polybag I might trade for a tc14/arf trooper and shirtless darth maul.

Posted by tiptupjr94 in United States, 22 Jun 2012 23:52

I got the game with the figure on Wednesday and the game is AWESOME. Might outrank LEGO Star Wars as my favorite LEGO game. I still haven't opened the figure, I'll probably just keep it around as a collector's piece. But yeah, this is one of the best pre-order bonuses I've ever seen.

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 23 Jun 2012 00:06

@Dmm32552: Same here.. that would also put the crimp on these prices of 20 dollars per fig.. Im keeping my eye on Amazon.com

Posted by legoyt in Australia, 23 Jun 2012 02:20

I'm going to get this on Wednesday as a birthday gift. I'll open the minifig on 21 August. To bad I can't open it when I see it

Posted by Mickitat in Germany, 23 Jun 2012 04:51

I am with UtarEmpire concerning the China comments.
Especially since China is just a placeholder for perceived inferior quality production. This has to stop.
Just ordered mine from co.uk, others do not even have the fig included in the special edition.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 23 Jun 2012 04:58

@UtarEmpire and @Mickitat, it is unfortunate that poor quality is associated with Chinese manufacture, and I concede that to some extent I proliferate that view. However, I am careful to note when Chinese-manufactured items are of high quality, such as Lex's armour, Amidala's hair and skirt, etc.

It is however true to say that many people perceive that Chinese-manufactured minifig parts -- torso, legs, heads etc. are NOT as good as those made elsewhere, and even LEGO has admitted (at AFOLCON) that they are different, due to the different ABS that's used in China. I'm guessing that the aforementioned good quality parts are not made of ABS and therefore do not suffer from this problem.

I will continue to point out when parts are made in China for the benefit of those that wish to make informed decisions about buying them, but I will try and stop equating bad quality with Chinese origin.

Posted by UtarEmpire in United States, 23 Jun 2012 07:31

Thank you, Huw. I appreciate your thoughtful reply.

I am not in denial that there is a higher probability that parts from China may be of lower quality simply due to the plastics issue as well as general lower quality control in the manufacturing industry in general in that country. More than once, however, it has been shown that ANY production facility is capable of producing flawed bricks. And the fact is that LEGO still remains an extremely high quality toy that all of us enjoy. So let's keep geopolitics off this site as far as possible and just enjoy this hobby together.

Posted by Mickitat in Germany, 23 Jun 2012 11:09

I am with UtarEmpire, once again - thanks for your reply, Huw.

Posted by ickleb in United Kingdom, 23 Jun 2012 12:21

Just put the game on and seen there is a Flash in the opening sequence, fingers crossed this becomes a real minifigure!!!
can't wait to see which others are in here to add to my wish list!!

Posted by the_real_indy in United States, 24 Jun 2012 12:27

^^^^ It is not about cultural sensitivities, it is squarely about nuts-and-bolts realities... Ultimately, the decisions are made in Denmark, and not in China... Or else they are simply dictated by the international availability of various plastic compounds... If these parts were made in Paraguay or Mozambique, we would not be making personal attacks against the Paraguayans or the Mozambiqueans! So let's quit with all the "ad civilizatio" attacks against the Chinese. It is totally cool to talk about production differences in the modern world, but no "China-Bashing", please!

Posted by vexorian in Bolivia, 24 Jun 2012 18:43

I don't see how the China comment is insensitive... As in a t all.

It can be arguably right or wrong depending on personal view. But just that.

In the U.S., the Lex Luthor minifig was a bonus for pre-ordering the game at Gamestop. We did not pre-order, but when we bought the game yesterday, we asked if they still had any, and the clerk got one out of a drawer behind the counter - I suggest you go to Gamestop and ask what they'd charge you for the fig by itself. I'm sure you could make a case for it being worth about $5 - same as polybags at Target & TRU.

Posted by vamproe in United States, 25 Jun 2012 11:47

been playing it on my Vita since i got it SAturday.
alomost done with the story , after that the justice league mini games get unlocked.

playing as superman is very cool, but takes alot of the fun out of it until you get his weakness involved.

good game, nice minfigure....

now I'm interested in seeing what freebee they give with lego LOTR game

Posted by dmm32552 in United States, 25 Jun 2012 22:12

^ Hadn't even thought of that. Didn't we see some LOTR polybags appear in the database which haven't been made available? Here they are: 30210 and 30211. However, the figures themselves aren't any different than ones which have already been made available previously, so that wouldn't be terribly exciting. Would like to see some variation on Gandalf -- like Gandalf the White! Game pre-order totals would be epic if they did that. At the same time, Gandalf the White is likely to appear in another set so it would have to be a little more obscure than that so that it stays exclusive.

Posted by yys4u in United States, 26 Jun 2012 02:02

I'd like to see him without the armor on, is his chest piece new?

Posted by sitkawitka in United States, 26 Jun 2012 12:21

Am I the only one who noticed Lex's armor is exactly the same as set 8831 series 7 Galaxy patrol guy? Just add a couple bricks and the normal lex and you practically have that set also build the gun if u want it. Paint the armor if u really care about color.
