    As you may have seen in the "New at shop.lego.com" banner, the summer Friends sets are now available for purchase from shop.Lego.com. I hope I'm not the only one excited about these sets - there are some great sets in the range, my favourites being Adventure Camper, Mia's Bedroom and Summer Riding Camp - but maybe that's just because I got to help build those for display at The Lego Show! What do you think of the new Friends sets, with their primary focus on the theme of horse-riding?

    In other news, the Stores page at shop.Lego.com has also revealed the 'soft' opening dates for the new stores Up North. Sheffield will be opening on Friday 27th July (http://stores.lego.com/en-us/Sheffield/LandingPage.aspx) but Manchester is apparently opening on Friday 20th July  - yes, tomorrow! (http://stores.lego.com/en-us/Manchester/LandingPage.aspx).

    The Grand Opening events (with the promotional items, which are yet to be announced) will be at a later date (24-26th August for Manchester, 31st August-2 September for Sheffield) but if you're local to the Manchester store, why not pop down tomorrow and let us know what you think of it!

    (Thanks to bluemoose for making me a news editor; sorry I messed it up a little at first :( )

I'm not surprised they have included horses for some reason a lot of little girls it seems are obsessed with horses. I wasn't one of them but many of my friends back in the day were. They need a unicorn, that'd be good stuff!

Awesome my daughters been waiting! The camper and mia's bedroom are excellent buys. But once again hardly any dark purple pieces. Considering the whole friends theme is marketed as purple you'd think TLG would offer some of those rare purple pieces! My knight bus set has more purple pieces than the entire first and second wave of the friends sets

Over the past two weeks, I've seen some of the new sets showing up on some US and Canadian sites. Amazon.com, walmart.com and toysrus.com all have them available to ship immediately, within the US only. At shop.lego.com US and CA, they're listed with a release date of July 23rd. The sets I've seen at ALL the above websites are Mia's Bedroom, Andrea's Bunny House, Olivia's Speedboat, Adventure Camper and Heartlake Stables. The sets I've seen limited to specific sites are Heartlake Flying Club, listed as a shop.lego.com US/CA and walmart "exclusive" and the Summer Riding Camp, which is currently only listed at TRU US. Nothing yet at .ca sites or in stores. US and CAD prices are listed at those sites!

The Lego Manchester Store will be no surprise to anyone who has ever been to one of the smaller Lego stores in the UK. It is of one story, with the PAB at the back, and the walls are lined with sets, with Mini-land type sets on show through round windows in between.

It is passable, as a store, with the new Star Wars sets, some LotR and Monster Fighters. No new Friends, which was an utter disappointment, and the new Creator sets were not on show.

So, in a glass-half-empty way, a bit of a disappointment, as positive as it is to have a Lego shop in my city..!

I knew it was only a matter of time. Congratulations LostInTranslation!

@TinyHippo - check out John Lewis too for the new Friends sets. My local store (High Wycombe) had the small to mid-sized ones in today (bought Mia's bedroom :-)) and they're online too!

@CapnRex - thanks! :-)

I visited the store today and was very impressed. Staff were very friendly and helpful. My son came away with lots of freebies! They also told me of a special LOTR day over the holidays with a quest in the store - maybe a gift or two as well!

I saw them at LEGOLAND California the other day. I didn't check out the prices though.

I went to the manchester store Sunday morning very big, very bright, very colourful, very helpfull staff, and very happy we have our own local store in Manchester. Treated myself to the fire brigade because I am worth it. Just finished the town hall which I got last Monday from Lego.com. It is nice just being able to wander 5 miles down the road to get what ever I want woohoo. Thank you Lego even if was a long time coming.
