If you're in the USA or Canada you can get this 40048 birthday cake when you spend over $50 at shop.LEGO.com between now and 10th August. Click on the banner above and get shopping!

In the UK, and probably the rest of Europe, we have to make do with another opportunity to get the Hulk minifig. However on the plus side, as you'll see from the New at shop.LEGO.com area above, Palpatine's Arrest and Spider-Man are now shipping!

LEGO is also running a promotion to encourage you to sign up as a VIP member. I'm sure everyone here already is, but in case not:

LEGO VIP 1 in a Million: Sign up and register as a LEGO VIP prior to August 31st for a chance to win an ultimate LEGOLAND trip for a family of 4 to any LEGOLAND Park in the world – flights and accommodation included!

More information here: USA | Canada | UK.

I was really excited about getting the spiderman set until I saw the price :-(

Posted by aquafreak125 in United Kingdom, 01 Aug 2012 05:28

Same here! ^ What on earth were Lego thinking!? It's now more expensive than the US price even before you convert the money! Ridiculous! :-(

Hopefully this is available at either Toronto Lego Store. Now to run it by the wife........

"LEGO VIP 1 in a Million"... does that mean a one in a million chance of winning? ;o)

Holy cow £35, how can they possibly justify it costing more £'s than $'s?
According to XE.com right now - 1.00 USD = 0.639495 GBP
$30 = less than £20. I know there is the tax issues etc, but seriously an additional £15!!
Got pretty much every superhero set but will boycott this, in principle.

^ Yeah, can't justify it when I have family in Canada that can hop across the border to pick up a set for me :S I was so looking forward to the Spider-Man minifig too!

When new Ninjago spinners wil be released in LEGO stores???

Posted by lilac_cloud in United Kingdom, 01 Aug 2012 07:14

I can't believe Lego has done this to us with Spidey! I really wanted him and could have been happy with a 25 - 29 pounds price range to reflect the 295 piece count, but really, this is overpriced. I will not be buying this on principle.

You can also get this cake set if you spend more than €30 in German Lego stores (between 1 and 10 August).

Luckily, I've planned to go next saturday to the Oberhausen store :D

THe Spiderman set is $40 in Canada. That's about normal for that piece count in a licensed set.

The hulks back? YEAHHHHHHHH!

Posted by rmarkworth in Germany, 01 Aug 2012 09:39

In germany, I get this cake, too!
And in addition to that free shipping! :)

Posted by MorkMan in United States, 01 Aug 2012 10:30

Someone else can eat the cake, I only want that big circle plate the cake sits on.

A trip to LEGOLAND? Wow, I live two hours away, so would they still pay for the flight, or could I trade that cash in for a LEGO Death Star? XD

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 01 Aug 2012 13:54

Absolutely no idea how Lego can think that it is acceptable to charge £34.99 when it costs $29.99 in the US. Outrageous, but I will still be getting it I think.

Posted by princedraven in United Kingdom, 01 Aug 2012 15:03

Someone was speculating a few days ago on the forums whether TLG are inflating their prices so that they can almost instantly put them on sale so that you feel you are getting a bargain. I can only think this is what is going on here.
I cannot think of any other justification for such a serious price difference.

9465 - The Zombies = $39 or £35
9873 - Spiderman = $29 or £35 ($10 less than above, same £'s)
9471 Urak-Hai = $29 or £29 (same $ as above, £6 less)

This is madness, these are 3 brand new sets released within no time whatsoever, with zero consistency, do they just pick a figure from thin air??

Yay! My little mini cake is on the way and it will be in time for my birthday, so I can celebrate my birthday LEGO style. I am a grown woman and LEGO makes me feel like a kid again. lol :)
