store-calendar-2009-oct-front store-calendar-2009-oct-reverse For your convenience, here are scans of the UK LEGO brand store events calendar for October 2009. The big news is the introduction of a new loyalty points scheme which will replace the loyalty cards that are stamped when you spend £5 or more. Now, you'll get a point for every pound you spend.

Anyone done the maths yet to work out whether the VIP scheme works out more or less generous than the current loyalty stamps scheme that's running ?

Also, anyone know whether points will also be awarded for online purchases ? (it's really about time they did this.....)

In fact, I've got some cards full of stamps to redeem - better get on with it before they retire the old scheme !

I don't really like the new VIP program. Sure, you get 1 point per $$$, but getting a $5 dollar gift card in return isn't really worth it. Right now I'm 2 stamps away ($50) from getting a $20 gift card!

And does it really replace the current Loyalty Card program or it replaces it only if you sign up?

I believe there will be a 6 month overlap period to enable people to complete the existing cards, then presumably when it's complete you won't get another one.

This looks pretty interesting.

I was just about to go a blow £200 on some Technic this weekend but I might hold off until the new Reward Card as I only have four stamps in the current one they are running.
I'd have to spend another £75 to get £5 back whereas if I sign up over the bonus points period it would only cost me £50.

Still a little stuck though as I don't want to "waste" the four stamps I already have... any suggestions?

Cheers,

The effective discount with the existing system is 7.5%, or $30 back for every $400 you spend. It seems the new system has an effective discount of 5%, with the same $400 purchase earning you $20 back. Of course there is some minor deviation for under/overspending at the $25 segments. So I say we are losing a 2.5% potential discount.

Thanks, Nelly - thought as much, although wasn't sure exactly how much we were losing.

For me a 2.5% hit would be more than outweighed by a scheme which worked for online purchases too, but I'm hearing that the VIP scheme is for the stores only. What a wasted opportunity.

Stores only *initially*; I've been told that there are plans to extend the scope of the scheme once it's bedded-in. Also there are likely to be VIP-member only special discounts & other promotions exclusives down-stream, but we'll have to wait & see. Once it's all up & running, I suspect the effective discount will be higher than the current system for most people.

The fact that the nearest Lego store is a 120 mile round trip means that I would usually order the sets rather than travel there, besides the postage is cheaper. Used to have a Lego store in our vacinity - until it shut down. The points system proved useful until then. No use to me, I'm afraid.
