UK LEGO brand store news

If you're a member of a LUG, or frequent the forum, you'll be aware that on specific dates and times LEGO offers a 15% discount to AFOLs in the brand stores.

The next discount day has just been announced by the LEGO community team and it'll be Saturday 1st September.

The times are slightly different, depending on the store, and are just before normal opening times:

    • Bluewater, Stratford, Liverpool, Brighton, Manchester and Sheffield: 8:00 – 9:00
    • Milton Keynes and Cardiff: 8:30 – 9:30
    • Westfield: 9:00 – 10:00

I believe the only requirement to attend is that you're an adult. There are restrictions on what you can buy but for all practical purposes it's pretty much whatever you want.

There's usually a few AFOLs around at each of the stores so if you're interested in meeting up with fellow Bricksetters, post something in the forum. Unfortunately I won't be at any of them, it's my wedding anniversary that weekend and we're off on a short cruise (I'm not sure if that should be followed by a :-) or a :-(... :-) )

Meanwhile, the dates of the grand opening events have been announced at stores.LEGO.com:

    • Manchester: 24th-26th August
    • Sheffield: 31st August to 2nd September

The free gifts are similar for both. Be among the first 300 to spend £25 and...

    • On the Friday you'll receive a kid's T-Shirt
    • On Saturday, 3300003: LEGO Brand Retail Store
    • On Sunday, exclusive minifigs

So, it sounds as if Sheffield is the place to be on the 1st September to get 15% off AND the brand store set!

Sounds like fun, I presume 'adult' is 18 by Lego's standards?

Wish I'd found this out sooner, I've already got things sorted out for Manchester but would have preferred to go to Sheffield. *shkfst*

"Frequent the forum"? ;)
Any ideas on what the exclusive minifigs are? Or how much I'll have to splash out on eBay to get them... :/

Do they ever have those 15% discounts at stores in the USA?

I shall be at Sheffield on Saturday and look forward to meeting other Brickset members, only thing is how do we know who they are?

Posted by caperberry in United Kingdom, 09 Aug 2012 18:40

@marcbowyer001 Weirdly enough, last time at Stratford, they were asking for "AFOL ID"! After quickly learning no such thing existed, they revised this to "VIP Card", then along came a (genuine) AFOL who didn't have a VIP card! He still got in of course, I think he just said that he'd happily get a VIP card. So, as long as you've got 18+ ID and have a VIP card, I'd say you'll have no trouble.

They should implement a high security question, like "What does AFOL stand for?" ;o)

@meccanotwitch the store will be closed to general public for the hour, so everyone inside will be AFOLs, friendly, and quite likely to be either a Bricksetter or be able to point at someone who is. The only hassle in my experience is learning both everyone's name AND screenname.

I can vouch from a quick visit last week that the staff at Sheffield were very friendly and helpful, even pointing out that I could fit even MORE bricks in my large PAB cup by filling the lid too! Thanks Louise!

Also, the PAB wall is only the second one i've used but it's shedloads better than the poor one at Milton Keynes.

Lots of stock and good displays, play areas for the kiddies and decent PAB. I'll have to find a way to get there early on the 1st!

@caperberry, thank you, I look forward to meeting like minded AFOL and to using the PAB.

Looks like I can make it to Manchester, but Sheffield is going to be too far for me. Any chance someone can pick up a spare minifig set from sheffield?

I'm visiting London for a few days and visited the Stratford store yesterday. First time ever in a LEGO brand store, and seeing all the exclusive models built and on display, oh my God! I was absolutely overwhelmed, and nearly died when I saw the Super Star Destroyer on display in the front window, it's absolutely massive!

Just found out the lads not got his swimming class on the 1st so the significant other has said we can go to Sheffield on that day as long as I buy her lunch, wonder if a bag of crisps will suffice!!!! Gonna be a early start, about 6.30, but will all be worth it for the haunted house :-)

If anybody can help me get the LEGO shop, I can do the same for somebody at Celebration VI... I can't get to any of the events because I'll be in the US.

Wicked I'll be there at the Sheffield store. If my thirts come on time I'll be wearing that:

I spoke to a staff member at the Westfield store and he said you just need to be an adult and have a VIP member card on 1 September. You cannot bring your kids with you into the store from 9-10am though as it is for adults only.
