New minifig packs

Rich over at Brick Fanatics has uncovered two new minifig packs (in the forum, as it turns out...)

The first appears to be a Monster Fighters 'battle pack' featuring a witch, zombie and ghost, and bricks to build a grave.

The second is another themed collection of collectable minifigs, featuring a rapper, drummer and guitarist, that look to be slight variants on figs we've seen before.

Head on over to check them out.

Brickset fans were talking about it before he uncovered them ... http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/1153/vip-minifig-set#latest

And bricklink ones before that.

I never claimed to be the first and credited where I found the images not that it really matters......................

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 15 Aug 2012 08:41

The package design looks kinda fake, to be honest... :/ Not up to LEGO's usual standards, that's for sure. :/

Posted by CCC in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 08:43

^ Yeah, I know. I just wonder if Huw reads the forums!

From what I understand, so far they are Legoland California only. Hopefully they will come to S@H. I'm not sure how many witches I need, but the price is likely to drop for that figure when people start hoarding zombies.

Posted by CCC in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 08:44

@ Alemas, maybe so, but it does look very similar to the previous surfer triple pack. Remember also that the ebay seller has stuck their name across the front to stop others claiming they have them to scam people.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 08:46

@CCC, there's so much to read in the forum that I don't always find the time to read it all, so I am indebted to bricksan for exposing it :)

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 15 Aug 2012 08:49

@CCC: Can I have pics of that, please? :P

Posted by brixton in Canada, 15 Aug 2012 08:50

This looks great since I don't have any ghosts or zombies...that is until I get the haunted house. Why is the zombie carrying a walkie-talkie though?

Posted by IAmWillGibson in United States, 15 Aug 2012 09:04

Dude, I may have to get both of these. Alternate paint jobs are gonna suck me in. Can't tell if the Witch is different, though, but I can deal with a second one of her.

Posted by CCC in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 09:07

@Alemas - look at the ebay sales at the bottom of the set page here ...

http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=850449-1

They show the packaging too.

Posted by domboy in United States, 15 Aug 2012 09:08

Hmm, this may be a cheaper way to get one of the new ghosts...

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 15 Aug 2012 09:30

@CCC: Yes, you are right, same "sober" style of design. Could be legit. :P

Posted by Kez in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 09:30

^^ by the looks of it the zombie in my opinion looks to be a police officer

Posted by Paul Boratko in United States, 15 Aug 2012 09:55

Is that a Walkie-Talkie that the zombie is carrying..?

Posted by mountebank in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 10:11

The walkie-talkie is to emphasise the tragedy of his predicament. Rather than just being the average Joe caught up in the Zombie Apocalypse, the walkie-talkie suggests that he may have been in an emergency or defence rôle and thus he is now part of the very disaster he was trying to avert.

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 15 Aug 2012 10:13

@mountebank: That's... deep. :P

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 15 Aug 2012 10:42

The zombie is carrying a briefcase and a walkie-talkie. I'm thinking LEGO wants us to think the walkie-talkie is a cellphone, and that the zombie was a businessman in a previous life. He's wearing a suit after all.

Drat! Beat me to it. I was actually going to be doing a review of them today after picking up both of them this weekend at LEGOLAND. Anyway, I'll still be the first to review it it seems.

Posted by mountebank in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 10:48

Ha ha, so much for my theory. Still like it even though it looks to be nonsense.

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 10:53

How intriguing... The packaging is the same as the Beach Kit set, which leads to me believe these are real. What's confusing me though is the new Minifigs; the prints on the Rocker Girl and Zombie are the same but on a different colour torso/legs. TLG don't usually do this, and to be honest it makes me think of cheap knock-off brands. Also the hairpieces are in new colours - would LEGO produce new coloured pieces for this sort of set?

Hmm... it's all very confusing, but I'll leave my final verdict until a few weeks/if we get confirmation.

EDIT: @ProfessorBrickkeeper - well if you've got them, I suppose that's all the confirmation we need. I'd like to read your review to shed some light on these.

Posted by Roborider in United States, 15 Aug 2012 11:01

I do like they actually made good changes to the minifiures to differentiate them from their original CMF counterparts (unlike that "top 5" one, which just changes out some of the exclusive parts with those that most people already had). I hope that LEGO will do this again if they do make more of these, so that the CMFs we originally got are still unique, and those who got them still may be motivated to get these packs. Hopefully these will be realitly wide spread like the beach one.

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 11:17

^^ I think TLG probably produces these sort of sets only in order to reuse new expensive moulds to create new colour variations, and therefore recoup some more money from the investment.

I'm a sucker for minifig variations, I'll be getting both of these, though I've been holding back on the beach one cos I can't see what the differences are (admittedly not inspected it closely). Also I can'r help but feel it will at some point get reduced to around £7 :-)

Posted by DaveBey in United States, 15 Aug 2012 11:18

I'm curious why the witch/zombie/ghost set isn't branded as a Monster Fighters set.

Are these only available at LEGO stores?

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 11:39

The variants will get me here - green punk hair! seeing as the beach set turned up in the brand store i'll wait for these to do likewise.

Posted by JohnnyB in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 11:40

Nice though a little surprised they didn't use the regular guitar (though I like the created one!!). Otherwise the band one seems like the "rejected in the boardroom" release for the collectible minifigs...

Posted by BrickBob09 in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 11:53

@Huw; Sorry for being offtopic, but I just noticed the adverts at the side on the comments page. While I don't really like them, I don't really notice them much for it to be a big issue. Just one small thing though, I'd thought I'd let you know non-LEGO items are appearing. Anyway to fix this? :P

BTT: It's a cute little set, but I don't collect Monster Fighters so not really interested in it. I might get them to put on display at Hallowe'en, but then it's a little expensive for a small decoration :/

Posted by LegoAthos in United States, 15 Aug 2012 12:32

Maybe the zombie has a cellphone because he is one of those Stephen King zombies from Cell?

Posted by Tzi in Canada, 15 Aug 2012 13:00

Will they be available online? Seasonal Halloween since they're not mark as Monsters Fighters? Or VIP exclusive or Legoland exclusive?

Even if theyre nice, i'm afraid of the price and the popularity. Those mini-sets could be a nice evolution of minifigure line or even a new thematic from Lego.

Can't wait to hear more about them, hopefully theyre not made in china......

ProfessorBrickkeeper: Cant wait to read your review and get the set numbers.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 15 Aug 2012 14:04

^^ They almost certainly will be: all 'extended product line' minifigs are.

Posted by sadowsk1 in United States, 15 Aug 2012 14:33

Oh man I hope this is real.

Posted by suckerpunch83 in Canada, 15 Aug 2012 15:29

@JohnnyB - I thought the exact same thing! But I find that made guitar ugly! Wish they would have put another electric one in the package.....

Posted by nightmarevalkyrie in United States, 15 Aug 2012 16:25

Hmm its worth picking up for that zombie I have about 19 custom zombies using Darth vader heads, harry potter troll heads, and the monster fighter zombie heads, this will finally make my zombie horde an even 20. and the ghost only comes in a few sets as well as that witch from series 2 which I never found, the band set is a bit strange the punk rocker is a remake with green hair, and the rapper is okay to obtain, and the rocker girl is remake with a different colorway these are both worth the pick up.

Does anyone know when they will be avabile in the UK please and how much.???

The zombie is saying "send more paramedics!". I thought that's obvious? -bill NYC Paramedic ;-)

^hahaha! "Send more paramedics!" "Send more cops!" A minifig Tarman would be neat.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 15 Aug 2012 23:46

Is it me or does the Monster Fighter packaging look bootleg OR probably a quick mock up before Lego packages it in their usual fashion ala how the Rock Band pack looks?
Love the Rock Band pack. And I'm in the camp that I love more brick built items. I'm glad the guitar is not a molded sculpt of a real guitar. I was like this with Thor's hammer. The sculpted one just doesnt look right. Even as a comic fan it's off.

I have reviews and pictures of them ready, just one problem, they're not yet in the database so I can't publish my reviews of them, can someone please add them to the database soon?

Posted by brianbatesd in United States, 16 Aug 2012 02:36

These look like fun. Looking forward to picking a set of each up.

Posted by CzechMate in Australia, 17 Aug 2012 01:58

Interested in this one, might get it.

Posted by BrickSorcerer in United Kingdom, 17 Aug 2012 06:28

Hmm... The packaging print looks computer-generated - unlike the beach party set... I really hope this isn't fake!

Posted by lilac_cloud in United Kingdom, 17 Aug 2012 07:29

I want the zombie. My town is sorely lacking them. Can't really have a zombie outbreak with just one zombie from Series 1!

Posted by ProfessorBrickkeeper in United States, 18 Aug 2012 02:21

Alright, since these sets have not yet been added to the database here are my reviews (And Pictures!) of them:

Set: 850487 MF HALLOWEEN SET
Ages: 6+
Pieces: 58
Item: 6016932
Price: $14.99 USD

This little impulse buy that I obtained at LEGOLAND California is a nice little set if not just for the concept of it. It contains 3 Minifigures, the CMS Witch (Same as Series, no changes unlike the box might make you think), The Zombie with a Brown Torso and "Torn" Printed Pants, it also includes the new Glow-in-The-Dark Monster Fighters design of Ghost with a Pearl White Torso.
The Grave comes in two parts, shrubbery/bushes, and the Tombstone itself along with 2 snakes (Green & Red), a mouse, bat, and spider (with Minifigures).
The tombstone has a new printed "Bat Letter" 1x2 Tile that is quite cool, and the shrubbery has new Dark-Green "Seaweed" and "Vines". This set is a must for any Post-Apocalyptic builder, supernatural fan, or, of course, any LEGO fan.

Images: I'll upload them Later...

Set: 850486 MF ROCK BAND SET
Ages: 6+
Pieces: 62
Item: 6016929
Price: $14.99 USD

This cool little gem of a set that I picked up at LEGOLAND California along with 850487 MF HALLOWEEN SET on Sunday is worth the money if you are lucky enough to come across it somewhere. It has a reused pieces that may be hard to find on their own including 2 Microphone elements, and an awesome Lime-Green Mohawk element reused from the Punk Rocker, though not much else. I found the design of the different components that make up the instruments to be nice and realistic with nice use of the elements to be true to real instruments designs.
The Minifigures are clearly the center of the set as they appear to have been where most of LEGO's effort were focused. They differ from their original CMS counterpart by use of variations in the elements such as the different head, Torso decal, and hat for the "Singer/Rapper", the Lime-Green Mohawk used for the "Drummer/Male Punk Rocker" ,the Black hair and reprinted White Torso and Pants for the "Gutairist/Female Punk Rocker". All the Minifigures also feature new printed pants then their CMS counterparts. The Minifigures also successfully vary from the CMS versions to retain their aspect of being unique.

If they are going to do recolors of existing minifigs, this is how they should do it. The red cheerleader and the evil robot from series 8 should have been released this way, as opposed to being released as new minifigs in the cmf line.

Posted by goblingift in Germany, 22 Aug 2012 10:06

Where can i get them? Will they be available for everyone in Germany? Or amazon?
