Dan emailed to say "just got back from Tesco in Milton Keynes / have just purchased series 8 minifigs / they had 4x boxes unopened".

They are due on the shelves of Tesco tomorrow, and apparently Tesco has a one month window of exclusivity on them in the UK meaning Argos etc. won't have them until October.

I was told earlier that they will be in Brand stores from tomorrow as well, so my "source" of the exclusive period maybe wrong..

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2012 15:46

Normally 'exclusive' excludes the brand stores. It'll be a right bun fight at Sheffield tomorrow morning if they do have them out, won't it :-)

Posted by RichardAM in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2012 16:03

Thought this was about to happen! My local Tesco's been selling Series 7 at 98p each. :)

Posted by nijisakana in Philippines, 31 Aug 2012 16:05

was thinking that they will have it by tomorrow as well since they've dropped the price of series 7 to 98p. went there tonight but still no sign of it. will go back tomorrow morning. hopefully i'll be able to get a set before i fly back to asia ;)

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2012 16:06

Interesting, my local Tesco did not have them, it did however have the Geonosian Cannon set on offer at only £8.09 so I stocked up on those.

Posted by richardh in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2012 16:46

You will be unable to buy a box at Sheffield tomorrow, as you are only allowed so many items using the 15% discount. The staff infornmed me that a box counts as 60 items - well beyond the maximum allowance.

Posted by bricksan in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2012 17:10

Sheffield will be a mad house Huw but with the offers it is too good to avoid.

Posted by meccanotwitch in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2012 17:12

^How many items are you allowed to buy at the 15% discount rate. I plan to get the haunted house, Olivias house, the new technic helicopter, big ben and a few series 8, if they have any.

Posted by bricksan in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2012 17:53

^^ All I know is no retail and only in amounts for end consumers. Please be aware that Exclusive sets are limited to 5 per Person.

Posted by DOLEGO1986 in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2012 18:35

Hoping to get some of these. A full set to go with all the other complete sets 1 - 7 and the Olympic set. Wonder how many more series there will be?

GREAT.

Staggered releases across stores means we don't have to worry about missing them, as they'll be available for a longer period, AND because of that the stores (TESCO) that have them first will be desperate to make sales before they roll out across the land while stores late to the show might also offer an instant deal the second they have them to catch up with the market share.

If ONLY we could all hang back and wait for one month without buying them, just to watch TESCO sweat and thinking they're a dud, and so slash the price before the national roll out in desperation. :oP

IF only we had the restraint to use the brickset effect to OUR advantage on ALL new releases. :o)

The (UK) Brand stores operate a limit on the number of Collectable minifigures you can buy in one transaction; that limit is usually 16. Sometimes I've been able to buy a few more than that in one go, but I've never successfully been able to buy a full box from a UK Brand store, unlike TRU or John Lewis. The limit is nothing to do with the AFOL shopping event.

As far as I can remember, there have never previously been limits on the total number of items that you can buy at one of the AFOL shopping events, or a limit on the total you can spend; they have limited the number of a particular set (e.g. only one each of a newly released modular) when they have had limited stock, but not the total number of sets.

Is that 15% just a Sheffield thing? or can it be used anywhere? Help please :)

Unfortunately it seems that some Tescos are unable to sell them. My local in Becton had them on the shelf but I couldn't by any this was after a spent 30 minutes feeling out for the few I needed. I'd check they are for sale before you start checking. I've left empty handed after finish the 6 I needed.

Posted by jjb5000 in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2012 06:31

Well guys, I can say there are plenty of series 8 minifigs in the Sheffield store if you can get near the place!!!!! Total carnage, so glad I turned up at 7.50 and got up at 4.30 to set off :-)

Got my haunted house but there are going to be plenty of dissappointed punters, they only had 12 and they had gone by about 8.02 :-(

Posted by Zander in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2012 07:08

Tried 3 Tescoes in London including the superstore on the Old Kent Road. Only found Olympians and S7. No sign of S8 and they had no knowledge of when they might have them.

Posted by Lightbrick in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2012 07:55

A little off-topic I know, but my son was mightily disappointed this morning at the Sheffield store. We were fourth in the queue of non-AFOLs to go in at 9am, but there were no Haunted Houses left at all by that stage (so bang goes his birthday present). I think that's pretty bad planning by Lego at what was always going to be a popular event. I was pleased to get the last Friends Advent Calendar for my daughter, but again there were some unhappy people when that sold out at about five past nine. The event was otherwise really good to attend (and the staff were great), but I do think Lego should have had enough of the key products in stock (or to have limited them to one per person).

Posted by jjb5000 in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2012 09:20

^ I can honestly say that from what I saw the people who had haunted houses this morning only had one each but I could be wrong, I totally agree about the planning issue as stock was dwindling at 8.45 when I left. It is very disappointing when you see people walk out with more than 5 items of the same product. I hope you get hold of one for your son, shame they didn't have one built for him to see.

Staff were extremely helpful and I am in total agreement what you say about the event, well worth getting there for :-)

Posted by nameloc in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2012 10:27

i still find it hugely funny that there is this mad dash and fight to get the minifigures, i mean are some people soooo short in their lives that they treat these, what are effectively just for kids, toys like ths. its not suprising that people go home upset, especially the youngsters, i mean are we adults or animals??

i live in the middle of nowhere and i have no problem getting what i want and i have the patence to wait a few days, itsn ot a if they numbered and soooo rare is it.

guys i think there needs to be some chill pills taken... be ADULT fans of lego

Posted by jon_k in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2012 10:28

no S8 at my local tesco but a local independent outlet Beals has some of the Haunted House sets.. but way above RRP no HH but they did have the train set ..looks cool

Posted by bricksan in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2012 10:48

The HH sets went before 8am as they opened early and yes it was one per person.

Posted by meccanotwitch in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2012 11:00

I managed to get a Haunted House in Sheffield this morning and I would say they had all gone within 5 min. Most of the other larger sets like the modulars and larger Starwars were being replenished as I stood in the que waiting to be served.
I agree there should have been more stock of these sets or some saved for the later arrivals at 9 on wards.

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2012 17:10

Just checked Tesco Watford. No sign of series 8 anywhere.

Posted by richardh in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2012 18:02

Nothing in Wigan, but there never is!

Posted by wildcherryp3psi in United States, 02 Sep 2012 01:03

My mum checked Newbury, none there yet

Posted by Zander in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2012 05:18

None at the Tesco Express in Oxford but that's not surprising as they stopped carrying LEGO a while ago.

Posted by lemaskdemasque in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2012 07:35

Nothing at the enfield tesco, but it did look like they were expecting a new stock of toys.

Posted by coxsparra in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2012 09:16

So it seems Tesco have muscled their way into an exclusive deal and not even bothered to put them on the shelves when we are all expecting them! Really disappointed they have arrived around the world but not here (apart from brand stores which the nearest to me is 2hrs!)

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2012 11:23

Resisted the urge to start on S8 figs at Sheffield yesterday as I was stocking up on advent calenders - nieces and nephew's xmas prezzies sorted at 15% off, plus nice freebies. Excellent trip to Meadowhall and gone before the crowds arrived! I can understand frustrations at the limited stock of the HH but it's at S@H and could be delivered in a few days so not the end of the world. If S6 and 7 are anything to go by there will be plenty of S8 to go around too.

I thought the staff at Sheffield dealt with the crush well, although the guy on the door was a bit wet/ distracted - I started talking to him and he just drifted off and gave out wristbands to three more people before I grabbed him again. I also watched one couple with a wristband each being served at two different tills pass their VIP card between them, split their purchases and get two of the retail store sets, which I didn't think was in the spirit of the 'first 300 customers' part of the offer.

Based on that I couldn't fathom why people queued for the main opening when they could have got in the store before 9 - the only restriction was the adults had to pay (and had the aforementioned wristbands given at the door to prove it) so if the kids had pocket money to spend just give it to mum and dad! I took my kids in without complaint before 9 and if you wanted to hang around for longer just get your shopping in early.

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 03 Sep 2012 09:32

Quick extra note on S8 - my niece went to Sheffield on Saturday too and when the staff saw her rooting through the bins of CMFs and feeling up packs to find all 16 for her kids, they told her they had complete sets already bagged behind the counter. I guess they couldn't guarantee them (bags were still sealed) and they did say they weren't advertising the fact they were there, but nice to know they realise what people are after and have gone that extra mile to help by pre-groping the packs.

Posted by Zander in United Kingdom, 03 Sep 2012 11:10

^ One of the staff at the White City Westfield helped feel bags when I was trying to get a fairy and actor. I managed to find both myself but it was nice of him to try. If they're not otherwise busy, it's worth asking if they'll tactilely ID minifigs for you. They probably do it quite a lot so I'm guessing they're pretty good at it. I'd still check before making a purchase though.

Posted by richardh in United Kingdom, 03 Sep 2012 11:38

Has anyone actually purchased any series 8 from Tesco?

Posted by coxsparra in United Kingdom, 03 Sep 2012 12:13

^^ I keep checking the thread to see, but no one says anything lol. I was going to have a drive round later but it seems they dont exist :/

Posted by Wallace in United Kingdom, 03 Sep 2012 14:12

^ My fiancé picked me up 7 earlier on from Tesco in Camberley, Surrey. She fondled the bags pretty well, and only managed to get one double. She said there were 2 guys there doing the same thing, and they said they had already been to a couple of stores today to get the ones they needed.

I purchased a series 8 from Tesco today, thanks for the news!

Posted by mngoult in United Kingdom, 03 Sep 2012 14:40

There was none in Chesterfield Tesco's, but series 5 and series 7 @49p and lots of them left, yesterday afternoon.

Posted by scottwb2010 in United Kingdom, 03 Sep 2012 15:06

No series 8 at my local tesco but plenty of series 7 but at usual price. Could it be that due to so many S7 left that the CMF's are loosing popularity?

Posted by jwatson9635 in United Kingdom, 03 Sep 2012 15:13

Hi Folks today ive been to the big Tesco at Chesterfield, the small one in the precinct and then i went on to Tesco at Clowne. I can report that there are no series 8 minifigures in any of these stores as of yet. In the Chesterfield store they were selling the series 5 minifigures at 49p each although there wasnt many of them left.
Series 8 obviously havnt arrived as of yet but i cannot wait until they do !!!

Posted by The solitary dark in United Kingdom, 03 Sep 2012 15:38

I stopped at a Tesco on my way to work (Feltham - Near Heathrow Airport) at 7 this morning and the staff were pulling the toy aisle apart and re-arranging it - They had put new shelving out with plans for what was going where - and sure enough there were the series 8 minifigs with a 3 box wide space on the shelf, labels out but no stock (There wasnt much stock of anything else either) - I asked if they had them in stock, and they did, but they did not have access to any of it as it was all in crates out back. Apparantly Sep 1 was the start of the Christmas season for Tesco! and the whole aisle is changing - This is the reason for a number of discounts the last couple of weeks, and these sets will not be in the shelf displays from Sep 1st. A whole bunch of other lines will also be joining the display including Monster Fighters and LOTR. The most interesting piece of information the chap shared was that normally LEGO accounts for around 15% of the total toy shelf space in the run up to christmas, but this year this has been increased to nearly 25% because of the contnued strong sales. This is likely to be happening in other stores as well so we will probably see Series 8 appearing this week.

Nothing in Tesco in Chorley, Lancashire either. They still have boxes of Team GB and a box full of S7 CMFs but no S8 or Haunted House sets yet. :(

Called at Telford Tesco at lunchtime. Saw this advertising material at the store entrance,

http://www.flickr.com/photos/neilmartin64/7924951842/in/photostream

but couldn't locate the actual Series 8 minifigs. Asked a member of staff and was told that the Lego minifigs hadn't been delivered into the store yet. Leaving the store with my groceries I noticed that the advertising material had been taken away!

Managed to find some in Bournemouth Extra store, got 10, out of that 4 were doubles!!! Not a good start lol.

4 boxes in Tesco Bradford canal road this evening. They were untouched. This series is possibly the easiest to identify. I pulled out a full set of 16 in no time. \o/

Still no sign of series 8 minifigures around the Chesterfield area Tesco stores but il sure as hell keep looking !!!

Posted by comedydave1979 in United Kingdom, 05 Sep 2012 10:04

Just discovered that Tesco in Leyland, Lancashire have the S8 minifigures. They had 4 full boxes on the shelves and I was told they were put out this morning. However, they only have three now as they allowed me to buy one. They didn't seem overly bothered about selling a full box, despite what some people have said / experienced.

Just called (phoned) the Cheltenham and Brockworth branch - they're saying none in stock yet.

Anyone had any luck in the Gloucestershire or even the Oxford area at all?

Picked up a full box in Hindley, Wigan and a 5p off a litre of petrol voucher as a bonus! The wife liked the voucher!

Posted by The solitary dark in United Kingdom, 05 Sep 2012 15:26

Feltham store had put them out this morning - Four boxes, in the now well known standee - Totally untouched when I got there, so I was able to get everyone I wanted (Which wasnt many from this series) - Lots of other new sets also out on the shelf, and lots of reduced sets too. Still a standee of Olympics figs as well.

Posted by jwatson9635 in United Kingdom, 06 Sep 2012 08:54

I CAN CONFIRM THE BIG TESCO IN CHESTERFIELD NOW HAS SERIES 8 MINIFIGS!!!! ABOUT 8 BOXES STACKED ON TOP OF ONE ANOTHER ON THE TOY AISLE THE TOP OPEN BOX WAS PICKED OVER PRETTY MUCH THOUGH.
I BOUGHT ONE £1.97 FIGURE AFTER FEELING THE BAGS FOR A FEW MINUTES AND I GOT THE CONQUESTADOR WHOS BODY ARMOUR IS QUITE EASY TO DISTINGUISH THROUGH FEELING THE BAGS.
THIS SERIES SEEMS ALOT HARDER TO IDENTIFY JUST THROUGH THE FEELING TECHNIQUE THOUGH.
HAPPY FINDINGS FOLKS. :)

Posted by Wallace in United Kingdom, 06 Sep 2012 11:24

I've now completed this series by getting the 10 I needed from Tescos in Aldershot, Hants. They had 4 boxes out on the shelf, one member of staff asked me what I was doing and when I told her she said it was a good job she had put them out then. They only went out on the shelf yesterday.

Finished series 8 already got them at our brand new Lego store in Manchester. I got some last week (9) and went back Friday afternoon. The lovely young ladie behind the counter helped me find the ones I needed. First time since series 1 I had not felt everyone was staring because I was feeling the packets. She found 6 of the 7 I found the alien. They even had some bags containing per-sorted ones. Do yourself a favor if you live near a Lego store go they understand us AFOL's. 10 out of 10 for service.
