2013 round-up

  • 2013 round-up

Posted by Huw, 04 Sep 2012 07:48. Filed under New sets.

News and rumours about 2013 sets is coming in thick and fast, particularly now that the retailers' catalogue is out there, even if recipients are apparently under NDA.

I've been away for a few days (on a short cruise, wedding anniversary) and it seems new information has come to light while I was gone. So, here's a round-up:

    Star Wars
Hoth Bricks has published a list of sets and set numbers, which includes three series 4 Planets we didn't know about before:

    • Hoth & SnowSpeeder (SnowSpeeder Pilot)
    • Endor & B-Wing (B-Wing Pilot)
    • Aldeeran & Tantive IV (Rebel Trooper)

Now we know set numbers I have added them to the database.

    Technic
TechnicBricks has information about likely first-half-of-year sets, based on sightings of a retailers' catalogue

    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
I'm finding the rumours about this hard to believe (and swallow!) You can read about it in the forum and find a summary of the 'facts' at Brick Fanatics.

    Ice/Arctic/Polar Express?
There's a teaser poster doing the rounds that suggests some sort of 'ice' theme. Some people have put two and two together and combined this with another rumour about a theme called Polar Xxpress, which I guess is plausible.

    Have I missed any?

There's a lively discussion in the forum where you can add to the rumour mill should you so wish...

TMNT?! O_O Oh no, please... :(

Posted by bricksan in United Kingdom, 04 Sep 2012 08:27

Hope you enjoy your short trip Huw :)

I don't know about that TMNT line of argumentation. It sounds more like someone's just yanking that guy's chain. Plus he writes in run-on sentences.

Btw, is this the appropriate place to complain about how Michael Bay is ruining yet another childhood toy of mine? The Turtles as aliens? Lame.

Posted by aquafreak125 in United Kingdom, 04 Sep 2012 09:36

If the TMNT rumour is true I will be very happy! I love TMNT and owe a lot of my childhood to those turtles.

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 04 Sep 2012 09:40

As a kid who grew up in the early 90s with the Ninja Turtles, if that rumour is true, OH MY GOSH. THIS HAS TO HAPPEN.

Posted by OuterRimTradingCo. in Australia, 04 Sep 2012 10:28

Ahhh... this is the fun time of year where the rumours and leaks and guessing takes place. Our 2013 presentation is on Monday so it will be great to finally find out what is in store for the first half... I hope the TMNT rumour is true, and some sets are based on the 90's cartoon. Gotta get my Turtle-Wagon!

Posted by cinemajay in United States, 04 Sep 2012 10:29

I'm PSYCHED for TMNT Legos.

LEGO TECHNODROME FTW!

PS the Bay movie isn't happening anymore, childhood memories are therefore intact. :)

I am thoroughly uninterested in TMNT. I want more details on the Phineas and Ferb game, though.

Posted by Legolover9531 in United States, 04 Sep 2012 10:45

Since this is probably gonna be based on the new Nickelodeon cartoon I have no interest in it.

Posted by Modok in United States, 04 Sep 2012 12:01

TMNT wouldn't surprise me because there is (was?) a Michael Bay TMNT movie coming out next year, and Lego always has one or two movie tie-in licenses per year.

Posted by ytjedi in United States, 04 Sep 2012 12:13

Did anyone notice that a Series 4 planet listed was ... Endor? We just got an Endor with AT-ST and driver. I hope were repeating planets in this line already (or ever really).

Hopefully it's just a mistake and it's really supposed to be a Death Star II.

Love the HUGE amount of CW sets and looking forward to the 5th season. Hope they plan to make more CW sets in the future such as important ones they've missed from many episodes in all 5 seasons which I'm not prepared to list!

Posted by Goldmatt in United States, 04 Sep 2012 12:42

While all this lively discussion occurs for TMNT I am still upset that we haven't heard anything on TDKR set(s!)

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 04 Sep 2012 12:47

Wasn't there a rumoured list of The Hobbit and Superheroes sets?

I'm really hoping we don't get TMNT sets. I don't have any interest in the show, plus I can't imagine what the figures would look like. There would also most likely be a ton of moulds that don't have any other uses, and I hate seeing new moulds go to waste.

I'm very excited about this new Arctic theme, though. I'm really getting into these excellent new Action themes (Pharaoh's Quest, Atlantis, Monster Fighters), even if they are too short lived. I hope it's another return to the Adventurers theme, that would just be perfect.

Can't wait for some more news!

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 04 Sep 2012 14:03

I like the Arctic idea, because I love the old arctic sets.

Posted by BlackRabbit in Canada, 04 Sep 2012 14:51

I hope lego hasn't sold out to the point that they are making michael bay ninga turtles sets. If it were the old cartoon from the 90's then i'd be all for it but what it is now is nothing that deserves to be in lego.

I don't really know what to think of the name Polar Xxpress. It sounds more like a racers theme. Hopefully Its something cool like Iceplanet but i've learned not to get my hopes up.

Posted by Modok in United States, 04 Sep 2012 14:55

^ "I don't really know what to think of the name Polar Xxpress."

It's better than "Polar XXXpress," which would be something else entirely.

Posted by DarthLuke824 in United Kingdom, 04 Sep 2012 15:13

It sickens me to think that LEGO are making TMNT. It will just have a ton of new moulded parts that are useless with anything else and its a mistake. The only buyers will be 7 year olds and they only get like a £30 set for Birthday so how are the going to get the flagship? It doesn't make sense... I often think that every year LEGO is drifting away from there roots.

Just my opinion though!

Posted by unkthebarbarian in United States, 04 Sep 2012 15:14

Well, since "The Polar Express" was a xmas movie a couple of years ago... could it be a new train set?
That would be kinda cool, my nephew would love that!!!

Posted by The_Creator in United States, 04 Sep 2012 15:50

Ice theme could be interesting but TMNT -_- SERIOUSLY TLG will you ever stop? And it just gets worse...
@DarthLuke, couldn't agree more.

Posted by icey in Denmark, 04 Sep 2012 15:52

When first Michael Bay is done with TMNT it will be a mass seller for sure... no doubt! But since the movie is pushed to 2014, I guess so is an eventual Lego Turtle theme.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 04 Sep 2012 16:12

I think the Star Wars sets are great, especially that Umbaran MHC one, that could be fantastic. As for the TMNT theme, I will simply be ignoring that, if there are some good new parts I may Bricklink them but that is all. Polar Xxpress could be good, as long as the theme is done correctly.

So all in all, I am rather excited for both the Star Wars sets, and to an equal extent, the Hobbit sets and those lovely Super Heroes Minifigures (and probably those sets as well).

Posted by Brickmeister1138 in United States, 04 Sep 2012 16:38

We actually have not had the planet Endor in a planet set, we had it's forest moon. In Star Wars, Endor is actually a gas giant, like Bespin or Yavin. This means we may get a third gas giant planet.

Posted by the_real_indy in United States, 04 Sep 2012 16:39

^

Definitely,

- Atlantis revisited the underwater themes,
- Pharaoh's Quest revisited the Egyptian Adventurers theme,
- The first year of Ninjago revisited the Asian castles and dragons Adventurers theme,
- Dino revisited the jungle themes a little bit more, since Indy was the last one to explore the Lego jungle...

So yes, a "snow adventure theme" should be up next!

Posted by ChicoCheco in Norway, 04 Sep 2012 16:41

This arctic express - the artworks looks to me like the former ICE planet theme.

Posted by bezetkace in Poland, 04 Sep 2012 18:22

Ice Planet Artwork is a fanmade... Unfortunatelly.

Posted by The Reviewer in United States, 04 Sep 2012 18:54

Lego really needs to get more creative on the minifigs on their Planet sets. The Hoth Planet set should'ave come with Wes Janson (Wedge's Gunner) instead of just a generic Snowspeeder Pilot.

Posted by legorokz112 in United States, 04 Sep 2012 21:46

Is there any News on Ninjago besides the Stone Warrior picture?

Posted by Blockland in United States, 04 Sep 2012 22:22

*Groan* More starfigter planet sets. However, the Correlian Corvette seems like a interesting buy.

Posted by MoonKnight in United States, 04 Sep 2012 23:16

@Goldmatt

TDKR sets have been rumored to be the camo tumbler and "the bat" from reliable sources that have seen the retailers catalog.

I'm not sure if this is alright to ask because I know we can't post photos of the retailers catalog but has anybody on this site seen the catalog themselves yet?

Posted by captain radda radda in United States, 04 Sep 2012 23:50

TMNT? Really? Blegh count me out of that one. The Ice theme sounds great simply because I adore the snow, winter etc. and its about time for a reboot.

Posted by LEGOIndianaMogens in Denmark, 05 Sep 2012 07:53

I knew there would be a polar theme next year!

2008: New pirate zone in LEGOLAND Billund.
2009: New pirate theme.

2010: The temple in LEGOLAND Billund.
2011: Pharaoh's Quest.

2012: New polar zone in LEGOLAND Billund.

From 2008, LEGOLAND Billund actually releases a hint of one of the next year's lines, every second year.
Both ''Pirates'' and ''Pharaoh's Quest'' only had one wave, so the polar theme will probably as well.

Posted by DarthZared in United Kingdom, 05 Sep 2012 10:40

@Gregorovich http://www.smashing-bricks.com has details on the Super Heroes sets, with some interesting minifigs...

Posted by kookars2 in Sweden, 05 Sep 2012 13:31

That "poster" has nothing to do with an ice/polar theme. It's about Legends of Chima.

Posted by Town in United States, 05 Sep 2012 14:17

It's Polar X-Plorer, not Polar Xxpress.

My guess is the theme will be adventurers on Earth, and not like the futuristic Alpha Team for '01-'05.

Posted by scifiantihero in United States, 06 Sep 2012 05:34

I want a lego polar express for my winter village! And I love tmnt . . . almost as much as legos.

Posted by kookars2 in Sweden, 06 Sep 2012 09:25

^^^Agreed. The flywheel stuff in Chima is Speedorz BTW...

Posted by 123Mr.Brick in United States, 06 Sep 2012 18:27

TMNT? SERIOUSLY? Waste of time if you ask me. Won't catch me buying those. I am very interested in the Old Republic BP, the AT-RT, the BARC speeder and the Umbaran MHC. 'Galaxy Quest' sounds a bit interesting too.

Posted by 123Mr.Brick in United States, 06 Sep 2012 18:31

@ytjedi I agree. The planet sets are getting BORING! Glad I haven't bought any yet...

Posted by BlackRabbit in Canada, 06 Sep 2012 21:58

I wish lego would stop making so many boring expensive licensed themes. Starwars are harry potter were okay because they have huge fanbases but making a lego theme for every failure of a movie that comes out is making lego just like all the other toy manufacturers.

Posted by MoonKnight in United States, 08 Sep 2012 04:26

I'm just freakin excited for a camo tumbler and "the bat"

Posted by herofactoryguy23 in Denmark, 09 Sep 2012 07:21

I¨m just excited that HF have a new brain mold and new armor pieces.

Posted by Legozrool in United States, 09 Sep 2012 08:16

^How do u know?

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 12 Sep 2012 11:04

@BlackRabbit: I have to say, I agree with you. Harry Potter and Star Wars were worthwhile licenses, I don't think anyone can disagree with that. I also think that Indiana Jones was quite successful with 4 waves, and I believe that Super Heroes will do well, considering the huge amount of people who love comics.

I liked both PoP and PotC because they had very good parts and figs. Was it really necessary, though, to make them licensed? Why did they bother to get the licenses for one-waved themes? I think we could have gotten those new moulds and similar figures (which would have been yellow, too) at a more reasonable price if they had just made their own Pirates or Persian themes.

I also heard they're making Lone Ranger sets. Really, LEGO? I'm quite happy to see a return to Western, but why, oh why, did it have to be Licensed? Fleshie figs and overpriced sets in a most likely one wave theme. Disappointing.

I just pray this TMNT theme is not real. At least Lone Ranger has the fact that we've not seen any Western in years. We just had NinjaGo, and there's this new 'Legends of Chima' thing too which sounds similar. What do we really need another martial arts/humanoid animals theme for, especially one that's licensed?

At least next year's City, Polar and new Space theme sound promising!

Posted by lego2332 in El Salvador, 12 Sep 2012 19:07

That teaser poster you say is not about polar express is about legends of chima! I already see the sets, they have the same freakin box ok the spinner, there is even a starter set. oh and the will have a motorcycle like thing isteed of spiners.
I will miss Ninjago.....:(
