Toys R Us in the USA offering 30% discount this week

  • Toys R Us in the USA offering 30% discount this week

Posted by danjc, 04 Oct 2009 22:21. Filed under Shopping (USA).

Just saw in today's ads that Toys R Us is offering a 30% discount on ALL LEGO sets in the USA. The sale will start October, 4th and run through October, 10th.

Update: It seems it might not be all LEGO sets, so do check before getting too excited! (--Huw)

Update 2: Front page says "All Lego On Sale". It might be different in store depending on your geographic location, but every Lego set on the website seems to be on sale. I didn't find certain sets, such as the Venator, however. (--jkool)

Actually, only a few sets (illustrated in the ad) are 30% off, the remainder are only 15% off. The pirate ship Brickbeard's Bounty 6243 is $74.99, so if you're looking for something to tangle with the new 10210 Imperial Flagship, this might be the opportunity.

brickeddad beat me to it. I was about to warn you that the weekly Toys r Us advertisement is highly misleading. It claims all Legos are on sale, but the wording says "30% off these hot Lego sets," meaning only 30% off the specific sets shown in the advertisement. Adding insult to injury, Toys r Us has recently increased many/most of their Legos anywhere from $1 to $5 so that the sale price merely reduces the cost back down to prices that match the everyday prices at nearly any other retailer that sells Legos. (At least, this is true in my area, and the Toys r Us website's list prices suggest it's the same elsewhere.)

www.toysnbricks.com got a detailed explanation on what the toysrus lego sale will be on. Its not 30% off all lego. That sale is too good to be true at toysrus.

I have observed the same problem here in Atlanta: TRU marks up most sets by a few dollars. The Venator should be $120, but they charge an absurd $130. I have no idea why. This 30% sale more than makes up for it, but otherwise I avoid TRU.

It seems like a good sale. I might go and buy something, but I'm not sure.

These are some of the reasons why I hate TRU. Sales are misleading and they mark up their prices.

Bah the sale is misleading. And of the few sets that ARE 30% off the only one i wanted was Brickbeards Bounty and it was sold out!

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 05 Oct 2009 13:23

As TRU (USA) is referring to October as Bricktober, I'm thinking we may have a few more sales on the way. This is the 3rd straight week by TRU (USA) with a good LEGO sale.

9/20 - 9/26 ----- Buy Two Get One Free (all Lego except Star Wars)
9/27 - 10/03 ---- 30% Off 3 Indiana Jones sets (Peril in Peru, Flying Wing, Tree Cutter Thingamajig)
10/04 - 10/10 --- 10% Off All Legos (30% off a few)

As posters have noted below, just make sure that this "sale" is not simply bringing the price back down to MSRP. This week, you'll find good deals on the Magna Fighter and Brickbeard's Bounty.

The Farm is also only $62.99 if anyone's interested. It does appear that ALL legos are on sale...just not 30% off for all.

30% off at Toys R Us, eh? So that makes the sets around the MSRP, right? ;-)

Posted by jackmap in United States, 05 Oct 2009 17:31

At my Toys R Us store, all Lego sets were 15% off except for the Bulldozer which was 30% off! :-P

Posted by danjc in United States, 05 Oct 2009 19:01

Looks like you guys are correct. It appears only certain sets are 30% off, the rest a much less percentage off. I will be more alert next time with a TRU add. Sorry to get anyones hopes up.

Some of the prices are truly ridiculous. The $3.49 Pirates impulse sets are marked up to $6.99 before they are marked down to $6.29. Sheesh. You really have to pay attention to MSRP for each set. Many of the other 30% sets in the ad are also nowhere to be found on the website, like the 8993 Kaxium V3 set which I happen to have bought on Saturday at full price at the Lego store. Grrr.

If anyone needs the Pirate ship (6243) Walmart.com in the US has it for less than TRU ($72.80) and look to have it in stock.

what about the gunship?

Posted by Danson Delta-40 in United States, 06 Oct 2009 19:33

You also get a free brick every week.

Posted by HobbesFan08 in United States, 08 Oct 2009 07:05

Yep i went last night and everything was 15% off. i ended up geting solar sailor for 50 tho :)

Posted by bmwlego in United States, 09 Oct 2009 06:13

As others have stated I must agree that TRU is a RIPOFF even at a sale price. The Impulse sets are such a drastic overpriced example of this toy store so blatantly ripping off customers. Most sets are a buckj to 5 bucks above LEGO SRP so 15% off doesn't even bring the price down to where it should be in the 1st place.

The 30% off prices are a much better buy but I didn't want any of these sets.

As Danson mentioned, you also get a free brick. Each week with any LEGO purchase you get a yellow duplo brick with 1 4th of a picture ion it. After 4 weeks of getting 1 brick each week you put the 4 bricks together and make a picture of a skeleton. You should also be given a yellow 2x8 plate to keep the bricks together.

If you want to see the brick here it is:

Hey, folks, if anyone is making a big purchase on the TRU website (10% off Legos through today, 10/10), some recommended coupon codes are:

931082: $10 off $75
930354: $10 off $100

Cheers!
