NYCC 2012 LEGO Exclusive Luke Skywalker's Chibi LandspeederFBTB is reporting that there's going to be a third Star Wars mini-set-in-a-tin, this time it's available at New York Comic Con that takes place in a couple of weeks.

This dinky landspeeder comes with a Luke minifig and once again it looks as if it'll be easy enough to make from parts you have already.

Update: beegeedee has had a go at reverse-engineering the model in LDD and has posted instructions in the forum.

The mini-speeder looks nice. Although the model is different to the picture. The model seems to be made from grey plates, whereas the picture has bricks? Plus the dark grey bits on the engines, and that white bit near the engine. I hope the real tins contain the model as pictured, it seems a bit silly otherwise.

I know the landspeeder is meant to be exclusive, but I think these would sell well for Christmas! The tin and small size would make them very suitable for gift-giving.

Do TLG ever sell these exclusives at say a Lego Convention? Or would the rush/demand just be too much? I think I prefer this 'chibi' version to the previous incarnations!

Hmmm...

I'm not sure if this is because the scale is far more accurate than the previous sets-in-tins, but this landspeeder actually looks to be the best one yet. I'm sure that I'd like it the best, it seems a lot more detailed.

Ah, they aren't plates - they are grilles.

Posted by beegeedee in Ireland, 04 Oct 2012 09:14

^ actually the tin and book shows what looks like brick 1 x 2 modified with masonery pattern and the model looks like 1x2 with grille.

I'm putting together a model in MLCAD and have managed to get so far with it. The engine at the middle top is quite clever. The side engines I'm not sure about and underneath will be speculation but it's looking not half bad to be honest.

I'm sure there'll be some stuff missing but it's close.

Wow, I got a shock when I saw a comment made by me on this thread already! I didn't remember posting one! Then I looked more closely at the username and saw that it was "Zatth", not "Zrath".
Dear Zatth, your name is too close to mine. I've been Zrath since 1991 so you need to change yours.
Otherwise, I will sue. :D

Is there a right place to post a model and/or screen grab of what I've made? It's actually LDD as MLCad doesn't have the right parts...

Posted by CCC in United Kingdom, 04 Oct 2012 11:35

^ Can you stick it in the forums? I'd be interested in it.

@CCC it's in there. Dee http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/6946/star-wars-mini-landspeeder#latest

I love it, its hilariously squat, possibly the most minifigure scaled vehicle I've ever seen though a truer scale is preferable where possible. Better than the released sets? Possibly.

Awesome mini. Must reproduce

WHAT! I never knew about these, now I want them all, the tin itself especially, but I'm not shelling out a hundred plus bucks a set on ebay! Sadness becomes me.

Oh wait, 2012 Winter Cottage and double VIP Points, happiness.

Looming end of Ninjago, despair.

Return of Pythor, hopeful giddiness!

Need to drink less coffee...

Very nice little model, I recently purchased the Slave I tin which is rather nice as well and I may get this if I can.

Definitely want to pick this up at NYCC. If it's like the others should be $40. Wonder if they'll have more exclusives like the Super-Hero figs at SDCC. Anyone know of more NYCC Lego Exclusive?

Posted by murphquake in United States, 04 Oct 2012 16:03

legoDad42, I think they said $40 somewhere in the NYCC IG or blog... you are going to come hang out with the LUG so we can finally meet and think "oh it's that guy from the lego store", right?

Aww, it's so cuuuuuute.

It almost (emphasis on almost) makes me wish LEGO would do a "Star Wars Babies" (a la Muppet/Looney Tunes Babies) sub-theme with cutie-fied Star Wars models.

Posted by Modok in United States, 04 Oct 2012 17:44

Lego could make good money selling a line of chibi Star Wars vehicles like this. It seems a waste to limit such fun and attractive little builds to an expensive collector set.

^Hey Murphquake...for sure man! I'll be at Artist Alley Table F9. I'll look for you guys too. I should be there Wednes setting up around 2pm.

Posted by murphquake in United States, 04 Oct 2012 19:32

Mike, why don't you come early and stay late and help us with the display =-p we're carting it in tuesday and hoping to finish setup wednesday, but we'll see... i'm hoping to spend all 4 days there, all in the name of lego schwag! =-)

Thats. The. Most. Epic. Set. I've. Ever. Seen.

Posted by nightmarevalkyrie in United States, 06 Oct 2012 01:48

Yes NYCC is almost here! This set looks pretty nice and for now I guess this is the only set that comes with this version of Luke Skywalker a New Hope with out the blast visor on the Millennium Falcon, hopefully the new superheroes sets are unveiled for the Marvel Ultimate Spiderman sets as well as the Dc superhero sets, I hope they unveil a set with Black Widow for a cheaper price or make a polybag set soon, its hard for us Superhero Marvel and Dc fans trying to get a complete set of Marvel and Dc figures, but paying 80$ for a Jet seems costly especially since the figures would be duplicates for me. Well AFOLs and TFOLs get psyched for NYCC because this is the time we see new sets unveiled as well as the New York Toyfair approaching!!

@Zrath

I'm sorry about that. :(

I can't really change the name! :D

Please don't sue me.

Interesting... you'd think Luke would come with a blaster or even his lightsaber. A pair of Macrobinoculars makes some sense, but not quite as much as a blaster.
