    Photos of almost the entire first wave of Legends of Chima sets have also been published on the Swiss site WOG.ch, along with a number of (yawn...) Star Wars ones, too.

    So, now we can get an idea of what they are like, what do you think? Here's the back-story again that might help make sense of them:

    "The kingdom of Chima is a magical land in which very advanced species dominate. These creatures speak and act like people. They use vehicles and machines and live in amazing castles and fortresses. They have claws, teeth, tails, and some are equipped with wings. Now they are at war with each other...

    "Chima was once a pure, natural paradise, but heavily armed barbarian species have changed it and now best friends have become sworn enemies of each other. Ruthless weapons destroyed the once sacred temples. Blood-thirsty vehicles battle each other in fatal duels in the forest.

    "The creatures are fiercely fighting over a powerful natural resource called Chi. which is the source of life but also unimaginable destruction.

    "Only a few brave heroes in Chima understand the true nature of Chi, and that its misuse leads to the total destruction of Chima. The stories of these heroes and those who want to destroy them are known as ’The Legends of Chima'."

    The Speedorz sets, those that will comprise the gaming element of the theme, have a price of 20 Chf, which I think is about £13 or US$20, so they will be significantly more expensive than the Ninjago spinners they are replacing. They appear to be some sort of two-wheeled vehicle, with a pull-back motor, and some other structure with which they interact.

    I now know for certain that the pictures will be removed from WOG.ch within 24 hours, once the 'Brickset effect' kicks in :)

I'm saving so much money next year! NinjaGo had/has a historical feel to it. It had buildings and temples and workshops. I know cars and such sell more but there isn't a single temple or building in the whole theme... disappointing.

I thought that there weren't going to be too many good 2013 themes. Then this comes. I think LEGO and whatever college I enter next fall will be fighting to the death over my wallet.

I looked at this again and noticed the crocodile heads. I wonder if we'll get some zeebas next year too...

I think you may have the names/pictures switched for two of the Star Wars sets (the battle packs). Other than that, these mostly look great (the Chima sets are definitely a "meh" from me).

Meh.

Looks like we won't have to save up for Arkham to get those new wings though. The four most prominent species seem to be Crocs, Lions, Eagles, and some sort of falcon/hawk.

Thanks for posting all these pics so quickly! I actually saw them at the Brothers Brick just a moment before you posted them on here, Huw. I will second GuyKir - I noticed very quickly that the pictures seem to be confused for 75000 and 75001. Overall, the sets look fine - a bit too heavy emphasis on Clone Wars, though, and certainly not as strong as this year's (though I love the new universal 2013 Star Wars product packaging).

@Zackula - I'm in somewhat of a similar predicament.

The Chima stuff is interesting. I really like the figures from what I can see of them I could use them. The vehicles are a big "meh" though. I will say the the small raven set looks neat, and the gator boat too. I would like to see the high rez pictures soon.

As for the star wars..... I am undecided. I know I will like them, but will I like them enough to buy. I dig the 501st clones so those will be bought on the second hand market. I do wish the clone BP had the phase II helmet like the 2012 arc trooper.

I am excited for the high rez to show up. Thanks to all for their vigilance in finding this stuff and posting it.

Starwars had what I'd consider one of its best lineups this summer, however, now 2013's first half is back to the usual. There's not much for interesting set designs (aside from the Cannon) and we'll be getting stuck with loads of boring vehicles with beautiful over-budget minifigures. The battle packs are always a must have, so I'm hoping they won't be priced at 15.99 CAN [again].

Legends of Chima was certainly the wildcard for me. I didn't know whether I'd love it, hate it, or just say "mehh". I think there's an impressive amount of detail in the [sub]minifigures, however, the majority of sets still leave a lot to be desired. Unlike NinjaGo, for those completely not interested in crazy looking vehicles, we're offered no alternatives. Since I'm a NinjaGo fan, I'm trying not to hate on this because it's the replacement, but honestly... I have no idea how well this will sell. Kids aren't millionares, and neither are their parents. Putting $20 speedorz sets out there might blow up in the Lego Company's face. I see kids walk into the store with $10 or 15 dollars for impulse buys, $20 might be pushing it. I guess it'll be awhile before we see some great resolution photos, so I honestly can't give a good estimate of how many I would buy. Right now, I'm not seriously aiming for any more than one of these (the flying Eagle robot probably).

OH... no...
They're an utter disappointment; the animal theme wrecks it...
One thing though: what is this picture (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8182/7984775853_1b2cfc028c_z.jpg)??? Just preliminary?

The best lineups this year seem to be for Star Wars, Ninjago, and TMNT.

EDIT: I don't understand how the Lion Buggy could go from this (http://images.wikia.com/lego/images/b/b5/70002small.png) to its current form; it's as if they entirely changed the color scheme! For the worse!

The Chima sets look brilliant. All the great brick-built sculpted details we know and love from the Creator and Ninjago themes, the unrepentant science-fantasy aesthetic of the Exo-Force theme, and a wide cast of characters and what looks to be a very deep universe reminiscent of the BIONICLE theme. The theme hasn't become a "must-buy" for me yet, make no mistake, but I know it will eventually snare me completely. Here's hoping I can put off purchasing at least the larger sets until they go on sale at Brickfair... the Ninjago sets should help me until then.

Plenty of people who loved Ninjago will hate Chima because it's a very different theme replacing something they had grown fond of. Plenty of people who hated Ninjago will hate Chima because it's a very similar theme in its zaniness, multimedia marketing platform, and extremely story-driven design. I personally welcome Chima because it's a very original theme that draws some of the coolest elements from various themes I enjoyed (and some of which I didn't) and combines them into something very unique, with the potential for a lot of appeal with multiple generations of fans.

It certainly draws the best from other themes, but it combines them in the worst possible way. It looks like one of those HF-style themes with a thin plot (not always a bad thing, though...), the building style literally revolves one basic type of object (like mechs in Exo-Force, animal-vehicles in Chima), the Speedorz fall flat (at least more than the sets), and, at least for now, the building style is lackluster and repetitive.
To me, I just get the feeling that it's like a theme that tries to convince you that it's 'cool', even though it's not...

The Animal theme isn't really my thing but some of the sets still look pretty cool. I like the Alligator ship the most. The hawk plane kinda looks like a fangpyre mech with wings.

I am not a big fan of another "war" theme, I like more creative themes like the city or creator, so I will not gonna go for any of the sets thats for sure.

Price wise dont be fooled. The mark up in Switzerland is historically bad - the RRP's are masively overpriced compared to direct CHF: Euro (1.2) or CHF: GBP (1.5). So they could easily be in the price range of Ninjago. Thats why most people in Switzerland buy in Germany - it is a 20% discount even with German VAT at 19% (instead of Swiss at 8%).

Funny,... I notice the same kind of negative comments that take me back 2 years ago to the moment Ninjago started to show up... but you know what, that stuff literaly flew off the shelves..
So, I showed these pictures to 2 best marketing specialsts I know when it comes to this kind of topics.. my 8 and 10 year old sons... suprise suprise : they love it!
To be honest, those vehicles might seem a bit weird, but on the other hand I notice a lot of resemblance to the battle machines my sons build with the bricks in their buckets. Bizarre attached weapons and wings, different sized wheels, a striking mix of colors..

Now, for those worried about the prices.. yes, 20 swiss francs seems a lot when converted directly into US dollars, but, as mentioned already many times, TLG works with different currency convertions.
20 swiss francs is about 16.5 euros (and 21.5 US dollar), but actually sets that are sold in continental europe for about 15 euros, are priced 11 a 12 dollars in the US.. (and from what I understood from posts in the past, swiss prices are higher then e.g. german ones) So I guess these speedorz will sell for around 13 a 14 US dollar, not 20..

Most of the negative stuff came before pictures were revealed. After the pictures, the people who liked it liked it, and the people who didn't like it didn't like it.
Chima, on the other hand is different. The people who liked it before the pictures either like it better now, or hate it, and the people who dislike it before, now, most likely, like it even less. =P

When I was 8 (and 10) we had things like BIONICLE; there was stuff like Exo-Force, but I was never really into that... I would have never liked this Chima, even if I were six...

Forgot to mention...
With the Ninjago 2013 pictures, the more I see them, the more I like them, but Chima has just the opposite effect: the more I see them, the more I dislike them. Maybe I should stop looking at the pictures?

I don't mind the Chima sets. I'll wait for the sets to hit shelves to see if I buy any, but they don't actually turn me away. I do like the giant animal mecha (particularly the birds).

@ChicoCheco I agree 'all out war' is an unnecessary repeat.
Tournament or hunting style one on one were-animals is more interesting and I would take buildings (ancient ruins/jungle) over more vehicles too.

I think the MFs could be desirably collectable with the vehicles a scavenge for parting out. Best bit: MF 'Angel Wings'

The Chima figures look good, but the vehicles are a bit disappointing. I was hoping for things that looked like the best of Ninjago. Instead we get the worst of Exo-Force.

Why shouldn't we expect better? Ninjago got better and better over the last few years. Why should LEGO have to hit a reset button and forget all those improvements and start a fairly similar theme off with weak early stuff again?

I can see a lot to like in LOC - the figs look cool, the parts, colours (olive green is big in 2013, and trans red canopies too). I'm not often a big fan of the models that are sold as sets and this is the case here - NOT because they are bad models, but as mentioned in online comments from Mark Stafford and others the designers have a lot of restrictions put on them (price, ease/ complexity of build, number of parts, etc) that FOLs wouldn't have to worry about so they will be aimed at the core audience and not AFOLs.

I initially didn't fancy Ninjago apart from the figs and i've since bought about a dozen of the sets, and I expect i will view this much the same way. Roll on 2013 so we can start the fan-built Legends of Chima models with a Turtle clan added to the fray :)

Plus, the new wing pieces will allow purist hawkmen from Flash Gordon, yay!

I really wish the Umbarans had a different helmet that looked like the helmet they wear in the clone wars. It is classic sci-fi.

@ Aanchir, I agree 100%. I like the Chima theme, it is creative and fun.

Also, aquaman looks awesome.

The old republic troopers vs. sith troppers are going to fly off the shelves.

The Chima stuff makes me think that some Thundercats MOCs are going to pop up now, especially with those lion things. It looks just too similar to Ninjago which I still find ridiculous becasue Ninjas are supposed to be secretive, not have loud jets and monster trucks. These guys look like gods and yet they are using jets and monster trucks. Plus, with all those new pieces, those prices look like they are going to be ridiculous.

Star Wars is really improving for me because I am a fan of the Clone Wars. Those Episode II clones, and then all the bump ups to the new designs are going to be nice to have, even though they completely can't get Destroyer droids right anymore. 2002 was the perfect design. A little out of scale with the minifigures, but better than all these designs they've come up with now. I want new versions of the minifigs so I can make different things for MOCs on MOCpages. It's alos nice to see them not remaking so many sets. I already have a Millenium Falcon and Podracers, and a TIE Fighter and an X-Wing, I'd like something new. Plus, the Umbara stuff looks fantastic. I could care less about the Old Republic stuff, but the Battle Packs are my crack, same with the Planet Sets, I just gotta have them.

I have little interest in Legends Of Chima but I do think they have done it right.

The sets use previous ideas of making vehicles themed like skeletons or snakes and take it to a whole new level. The boats,planes, aircraft whatever all have this love it or hate it animal appearance that I personally think adds to the uniqueness and character this theme is going to need to be the next big action hit! I know the 'Speedorz' sets wont be approved by some like NINJAGO's spinners were but at least these sets actually include a small brick built structure rather than just a spinner and some weapons.

The figures look very intricate and detailed. I think LEGO pulled off the animal aesthetics very well. The story is wacky and unusual which fits the theme perfectly.

I probably wont by many or any Chima sets but I am glad to see LEGO make a pleasant, creative, original new action theme and I hope it is a success.

^^ I totally agree about the Chima sets, they are creative and very interesting.

I can't wait 'till they are released, man, I am gonna be SOO broke next year. But I really like those figs and vehicles (But those are really all the Chima sets are), and the croc dude in the boat set has some crazy looking double-bladed sword/staff that will be great for MOCing. And I really like all the new parts, but whoo-wee will the sets be expensive.
I just hope that they continue this theme for at least two years. And also, those "Chi" pieces (The blue things that it looks like they are fighting for) look very much like the Treasure Keys from Atlantis. My favorite minifig has to be the dark grey Wolf guy from "Wak's Wolf Tracker" or the Croc dude from "Laval's Lion Quad."
