2013: information/image round-up

  • 2013: information/image round-up

Posted by Huw, 19 Oct 2012 06:20. Filed under New sets.

Given the flurry of activity last night, I thought it worth summarizing what the early new year launches are likely to be:

    • Bricks and More, 6 sets.
These are branded 'For Young Builders'. We have images for two; both of which come in very smart looking carry cases.
    • City, 13 sets.
More fire, more police, but also three great looking trucks. The fuel tanker and the cement mixer look really cool!
    • Creator, 11 sets.
Other than the Horizon Express, we have no images yet of other Creator sets.
    • Duplo, 18 sets.
We haven't found any images of Duplo sets yet but we have 18 sets listed, including zoo-theme ones and Little Mermaid (Ariel) additions to the Disney Princess range.
    • Friends, 12 sets in January, 3 in May.
No pictures yet. Eight sets will be 'normal' boxed sets; the other six are foil pack collectables, three due in January and three more in May.
    • HERO Factory, 8 sets.
      More of the same...
    • Legends of Chima, 18 sets.
Nine 'normal' sets, plus seven Speedorz, numbered 3-9, a Chi Battles set  (the one that appeared on eBay in the summer) which presumably has numbers 1 and 2 in it, and an Ultimate Tournament set.
    • Ninjago, 6 sets.
      Six regular sets, no spinners.
    • Star Wars, 11 sets in January, 3 in May.
Eight boxed sets, three Planet sets in January and another three in May-ish.
    • Super Heroes, 5 sets.
Four that will form the regular retail selection, plus Arkum Asylum.
    • Technic, 8 sets.
Some look great (the excavator), others are just more of the same...
    • TMNT, 5 sets.
We have pictures of three, the others have yet to surface.

Some of the above sets will almost certainly appear in the US shops just before, or after Thanksgiving, so you do not have long to wait. For us in Europe, we'll probably see some of them in brand stores the week before Christmas.

The creator train is a must have, can't wait to see the other sets.

Posted by paul_merton in United Kingdom, 19 Oct 2012 07:57

Wow, the new City lineup is very fire oriented!

Posted by Corellian Engineering in Belgium, 19 Oct 2012 08:08

A french Lego SW dedicated site has some pictures of the next 2 planet series now..
The still seem to have the confidential stamp though , so I am not posting a link here..

But as a hint... the sites name is a combination between the coldest planet in the SW universe, and the shape of our favourite toy.. :-)

Thanks for the Summary, now I can slowly start organizing my wish-list ;-)

although for city still no info on set 60009

Posted by Duq in Ireland, 19 Oct 2012 08:19

The City tanker truck will be a non-articulated version of the previous Octan tanker, using the same elements for the tank, but only two of them this time.

What I like about the new fire sets that they finally contain... fire!
One exception: the one where the fireman tries to lure a cat from a tree with a fish.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 19 Oct 2012 09:38

^ Indeed it is exactly that :-)

Olive green boat hull! Awesome.

Posted by legomaniac in United States, 19 Oct 2012 09:56

All the creator sets sound awesome. Cant wait for the pictures. Definably getting that fire set with the building on fire, flatbed truck, cement mixer, and some Technic sets.

The planet sets look great and I'm happy LEGO decided to make the b-wing planet set the actual planet of endor and not just duplicate the forest moon of endor from the last wave

There are 14 city sets, not 13. The 14th is a TRU exclusive; will be available for the holidays in the States, at least.

Posted by legofanatic2414 in United States, 19 Oct 2012 13:05

In all honesty, I am more interested in the Superheroes, but the City sets are staring to catch my eye.

Posted by Legozrool in United States, 19 Oct 2012 14:16

Uhh is it just me or In the clones vs droidikas battle pack the droidikas are plain while the the droidika in the atrt is sniper? Just wondering:). Ps looks like lego had some extra commando droids :)

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 19 Oct 2012 14:34

@Legozrool - Yes, the two Droidekas in the Battle Pack are standard, the other one is a sniper (which pleases me since those are rarer so an army of those would be pretty useless.)

I adore those Star Wars and Super Heroes sets and will be picking up all of those as soon as I can lay my hands on them. Some of those Minifigures look to me as though they could challenge for the top spot among my collection (currently held by Darth Malgus). The Creator train looks fantastic so that will be a must have for me as well.

@Corellian Engineering
I can't read French, but I can certainly see pictures... they look interesting, I must say!

You forgot the Hobbit sets!

Posted by pohm in New Zealand, 19 Oct 2012 15:58

The images of the 2013 line-ups are not particularly inspiring apart from one or two sets. The Chima and TMNT range are of no interest from a personal point of view. The Hobbit Bag End set is appealing along with the A-Wing. My daughters love the Friends line. 2013 could be a chance to save some cash or catch up on sets that we were deluged with over the last year or so.

Posted by meccanotwitch in United Kingdom, 19 Oct 2012 15:58

It seems Lego are running out of inspiration for the latest run of Technic sets, apart from the claw excavator and F1 car the others seem a little bland. When are we going to see a new car chassis/super car, with the full works inside. I think we are long overdue for an up-to-date version.

And here begins the era of the 5-digit set numbers...

Posted by lotrninja23 in United States, 19 Oct 2012 17:49

i'm liking legends of chima, star wars, ninjago, tmnt, super heroes, and hobbit so far.
i'm definately getting the sith troopers battle pack, an unexpected gathering, spidercycle chase, all the ninjago sets, a lot of legends of chima, and a couple tmnt sets (especially shredder's dragon bike).
i'm gonna be a busy guy in 2013. LEGO will certainly empty my wallet!

Posted by Starwarsgeek500 in United States, 19 Oct 2012 19:18

Going to get sith troopers battle pack, Probably MHC, and a big maybe for the Z-95. One question though: WHY did they have to change Phase one helmets with the new Battle Pack? WHY!

I still eagerly await the reveal of Galaxy Squad pictures...I have high hopes.

Posted by legofanatic2414 in United States, 19 Oct 2012 22:06

Is Monster Fighters being discontinued? I bought none, but from what I heard it was a popular theme.

Posted by Goldchains in United States, 19 Oct 2012 23:51

So many sets to get. I am definitely going to get the Batman/Mr. Freeze/Aquaman, Arkham Asylum, Daily Bugle, and Spider Cycle Superheroes, and the Rancor Pit and A-wing Star Wars sets. Thank god I don't collect PT, EU, or CW Star Wars sets, none of these appeal to me anyways.

Posted by theSource in United States, 20 Oct 2012 00:54

Don't forget about the Lone Ranger sets. Here are at least some set names:
79106 Calvary Builder - 13$
79107 Comanche Camp - 20$
79108 Stagecoach Escape - 30$
79109 Colby City Showdown - 50$
79110 Silver Mine Shootout - 70$
79111 Constitution Train Chase - 100$

Has anyone else, found the new City, Police and Fire stuff isn't really fitting in with the traditional stuff. The mini-figs especialy stand out like sore thumbs. It is for a more US based city setup really. If your a BRIT with a UK style city setup, the figs and woodland look of the new sets don't fit in at all.

Don't get me wrong all the newer city Police/Fire sets looks great.

The museum and burning house sets, should fit in fine however to a 'London' type of city setup, without using the police/fire figs.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 20 Oct 2012 04:29

^^ They won't be January releases which is why I didn't mention them. The movie is not out until June so I would anticipate a May/June release.

If anyone is interested in the star wars sets, i have seen a website that has these with just the sets; no box. I hope you take a look, expecially for a closer look at the minifigures.

Sadly none of Pong Kreel :-(

Posted by Margot in United States, 20 Oct 2012 14:15

The Star Wars sets look great! My son and I just oohd and aaahd over the photos.

Posted by the_real_indy in United States, 21 Oct 2012 00:09

Yay, Coruscant, Kamino, and Alderaan look great! Hoth and Endor look a little generic and underdone, so hopefully those are still just preliminary pics... The asteroid field is a strange idea!

I'll decide after we've seen Series 5 and 6. I'm sure they will want to do Dagobah, Mustafar, Corellia and Kashyyyk, and maybe Geonosis, Felucia or Ryloth, so that's at least two more waves...

Then what other planets might they do?

Posted by Bob Clear in United States, 21 Oct 2012 21:13

Is there any wave of Racers sets for 2013? It seems that Lego has cut the number of Racers they make, but they make a wave every year. Usually they are not seen on any rumors sites because not a lot of people care about them.

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 22 Oct 2012 00:21

@Bob: I know there was only 4 sets for 2012, but it may be done after 11 long years. I haven't seen anything notable quite yet for them.
