Next AFOL shopping day

The LEGO community team has just advised us of the date of the next AFOL Shopping day at the brand stores in the UK. It will be on Sunday 11th November 2012, one hour before the shop normally opens, which is therefore 10am at all stores except Manchester (10:30) and the Westfield London branches (11am)

You will receive a 15% discount on all articles in the store except for already discounted articles, gift certificates and books.

The only requirement to participate is that you're an AFOL.

15% discount is better than double vip points.

It's a shame about the timing. It clashes with remembrance.

Posted by Zander in United Kingdom, 25 Oct 2012 04:43

@jimred, Quite right. The Westfield timing is particularly unfortunate as 11.00am coincides with the observance of the moment of silence. Don't get me wrong: I love the fact that AFOLs have this opportunity. I just feel that TLG could have made it 11.10am out of respect.

^ That did cross my mind, too, but 11th November, Rememberance Day, is not observed Denmark, and I suspect those that chose the date may not be aware of it. I will feed back your concerns.

Posted by dcmal in United Kingdom, 25 Oct 2012 05:13

It should remain an individual decision. If you would like to be silent for a moment at 11.00... but I don't quite feel that way. I'd rather have the shop open at 11.00. Businesses who open earlier don't close at 11.00 for a few minutes, either.

Hi all, I can see your concerns but the BR team is aware of this and all Store Managers have been briefed properly and they will make sure that there is the moment of silence.

^ That is good to know, thanks for communicating that with us Jan, will stop people getting all worked up over it.

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 25 Oct 2012 06:21

Many thanks, Jan - much appreciated.

So, everyone who goes to remembrance parades and church services will have to miss out on this because the people in Denmark don't think these things through. I'll be standing with our country, remembering our fallen, not rushing to a LEGO store to get 15% off.

Do we yet know of any November offers/promotions for the UK?

Posted by talkwalkplay in United Kingdom, 25 Oct 2012 07:12

Can TFOL take advantage of this offer?

Posted by denziloshamen in United Kingdom, 25 Oct 2012 07:14

Sorry if this is a dim question, but I'm quite new to these sites and this information of AFOL special openings. Is AFOL an official club that I need to sign up to and have a membership card for? If so how do I get this?

Or is being an AFOL just the fact that I'm an adult turning up to a Lego shop without children and the special opening times?

Posted by X117JACK in United Kingdom, 25 Oct 2012 07:24

11th November happens to be the day I turn 18 so I take it I will then be an AFOL?

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 25 Oct 2012 07:46

denziloshamen - no, AFOL is just an acronym for Adult Fan Of Lego - no official membership required, just need to be able to prove you are an adult. I have my VIP card on me anyway to get my points. I turned up for the last one with my kids anyway - as long as only YOU do the purchasing it's fine.

Please note this is for UK AFOLs, I don't know if they have the same thing with the US brand stores or in other countries.

Posted by Chills in United States, 25 Oct 2012 09:12

That would be cool if the US stores did this. Huw, any rumor from TLG that we might get an AFOL shopping day on this side of the Atlantic?

Posted by ChicoCheco in Norway, 25 Oct 2012 09:17

I always feel envious about these events - Here in Norway... no stores and very little events...

Posted by caperberry in United Kingdom, 25 Oct 2012 10:20

X117JACK, undoubtedly, and what a great way to celebrate your first day of AFOLhood!

Posted by meccanotwitch in United Kingdom, 25 Oct 2012 13:50

Glad I didn't order from Lego today, I will save my money and head to Meadowhall Sheffield and get my 15% off instead. Oh and there is the VIP points too!

Posted by meccanotwitch in United Kingdom, 25 Oct 2012 13:55

Does anybody know if the parts in PAB wall at Lego Stores gets updated with different parts and if so how often.

Posted by mrklaw in United Kingdom, 25 Oct 2012 15:57

Do you still earn normal VIP points on purchases too?

Also, will this stack with the £5 off voucher in the back of the Christmas catalogue?

Posted by aquafreak125 in United Kingdom, 25 Oct 2012 16:41

2 years to go and I can be part of this! :D
It's good to see that Lego's holding the moment of silence, totally expected from a top notch company =)

Posted by Holodoc in Germany, 26 Oct 2012 08:18

AFOL shopping in Germany will be one day before the UK date on the 10th of November.

Either from 8 o'clock in the morning or (mostly) 8:30 in the evening, depending on the store.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 12:37

Only a year and a bit to go for me, it will be great to finally become what one might call a 'fully fledged member' of the Lego community here in the UK (although I suppose even us TFOLs and KFOLs have something to contribute to the Lego fan base as well).

Posted by maniac in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 15:57

Normally work weekends but happen to be off on that Sunday. Will be my first time going to a AFOL special opening. Very excited! Meadowhall, here we come! :)

Posted by CurvedRoadPlate in United States, 01 Nov 2012 12:23

Do they ever do this in the US?
