Hot on the heels of Elrond, here's the free minifig that's given away with pre-orders of LEGO City Undercover video game.

To avoid confrontation in the comments, I won't tell you where the figure is made this time :-)

Thanks to Alex G for sending us the photo.

got mine pre-orderd for the WII U

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 26 Oct 2012 14:45

I thought the hair was Dark Tan? Plus I don't see how this figure is exclusive if it's in one of the City sets.

Posted by legomaniac in United States, 26 Oct 2012 15:09

I'd rather get the police set coming out next year with him in it.

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 26 Oct 2012 15:10

^^ Who said it was exclusive? It's just the promotional freebie.

TIMED exclusive. I think the villain from the game is real exclusive

I like the MOLLE/PALS ballistic vest... old line of work... I should have sent them some of my pouch designs =-)

Huw, I appreciate your comments and insight no matter how confrontational the others become.

Posted by Master Ian in United States, 26 Oct 2012 18:56

Where exactly do you have to pre-order from to get him?

Posted by Town in United States, 26 Oct 2012 20:20

Good man, Chase McCain.

But in the 2013 set he have the right hair havent he?
But of course i wont say no to another redish brown mutt hair piece

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 27 Oct 2012 04:24

I like his 'determined yet handsome' facial expression.

I want a minifig of "Harry" and of "Natalia Kowalksi", who I think might just be a Paramedic. The video where the one cop asks Harry if he's had enough coffee and he says he doesn't know if he had 6 shots or 5 is EPIC! But where are we pre-ordering to get the minifigure?!?

Posted by 123Mr.Brick in United States, 27 Oct 2012 11:24

Nice! But I thought his hair was a different color. It's light-tan in the video.

Chase looks like a nice figure, too bad he will likely be made of lower quality plastic.

Posted by vamproe in United States, 27 Oct 2012 19:45

was at a Target today and found this attached to the pre-order card for this game on the WII U.
pre-order the game for 1$ and get the figure now.

I also stopped by Target and picked this up, as vamproe said, the polybag is glued to the pre-order card.

The hair is only brown on the packaging, the actual minifigure included has the correct color of hairpiece, with nice blond hair. Whoever did the polybag picture screwed up, that's all.

Also, the minifigure does seem to use the cheaper plastic, but honestly I wasn't able to tell at first. There's printing on the front and back of the torso, on the legs, and one of his arms has the police badge logo printed on it as well in black lineart. It's a pretty nice minifig IMO, and considering it was only $1 (and I was planning on getting the game anyway), well worth the purchase.

Posted by jamesster in United States, 29 Oct 2012 11:45

Well, I'm not entirely sure if the plastic itself is cheaper or not (seems rather hard to tell for me, but the plastic on Chase does seem to have a slightly different shine to it). But the Chase minifigure does use the same molds that are used for collectible minifigures and such, and other minifigures with the "cheaper plastic". If you don't know what I'm talking about, take a standard minifigure with "good plastic", and a collectible minifigure, and put them both in a sitting position, then look at the backs/tops of the legs, the part normally covered by the hip joint piece. Normal minifigures are smooth and curved on top, collectible minifigures and other minifigures with "cheaper plastic" have a sort of shallow box-shaped depression there. Chase McCain has the box-shaped depression in the tops of his legs. There's other minor shape differences, but that one is the easiest to identify.

@Mrconnor2000: LEGO does use ABS for most of its parts, but "ABS" is a rather broad chemical classification. Plenty of companies use ABS, but LEGO has a particular formulation of ABS they use for most of their parts, all coming from a single supplier.

The reason Chinese-made parts have different plastic, as I've heard it, is that there are manufacturing laws in place in China that require a certain percentage of the raw materials used come from domestic sources, so TLG can't rely on their typical plastic granulate supplier. The ABS they chose to use in the Chinese manufacturing facility is allegedly the closest they could get to what they get from their regular supplier in terms of colorfastness, clutch power, chemical stability (don't want any chemicals leaching out of the plastic if a kid puts it in their mouth), and opacity.

But it's definitely not a perfect match, and additionally it seems like there are some lingering quality control issues at the China plant since the variability of the parts' quality is still greater than that of parts from other plants. The quality has come a long way since Minifigures Series 1 and 2, and before that the magnet pack figs, all of which had SEVERE variations in color and opacity. But there's still a lot of room for improvement and I don't hold it against anyone who chooses to avoid the Chinese-made figs out of personal preference.

Anyway, my brother has been wondering for a while, is this only for preorders on the Wii U version of the game or for the 3DS version as well? Either way we'll probably get it, but it's the difference between preordering a game that he can play soon after it comes out and preordering a game that he can't play until the system becomes obtainable (since the Wii U seems like it'll be in short supply for at least the first few months after its release).

Chase McCain is a cool fella! Can't wait to see that game come out for WiiU

Posted by commodorelegolas in United States, 30 Oct 2012 12:19

Awesome! So it is only $1 For the pre-order, and you don't have to buy the game?!
Awesome! Will try to pick up a few, soon!

Posted by commodorelegolas in United States, 31 Oct 2012 11:06

Stayed ture to my word, and picked up two last night. Opened one, saved the other.

Posted by minicoopers11 in United States, 03 Nov 2012 01:03

Yes, you can buy this at Target in the US for only $1. It's in the video game section with other "reservation" cards for Wii U games. The minifigure is attached to the card. You do not need to buy the game. Just bought two tonight!

Posted by ProfessorBrickkeeper in United States, 03 Nov 2012 17:59

I finally found a Target with two left in stock after calling 6 different stores. Of course I bought the store out. :P
