Quinjet: Which do you prefer?

It's not often that the picture on the instructions differs from the actual instructions, but here's a case where what was presumably an earlier colour scheme of the model is depicted, showing nearly every part in dark grey.

It certainly looks more uniform, but which do you prefer?

30162: Is ths how it should have looked?Compare this photo of the model made with parts the colour as shown on the instructions cover with the one below and make up your own mind.

Thanks to psymon for bringing this to my attention.

I would say that it is just shadow or shading effects that cause the effect, on the instructions it is clear that the triangle flags and the connecting parts are a different colour to the rest of the model, just like the actual bricks and pieces.

If you have a set, compare the picture on the polybag with that on the instructions, they are different.

I like the dark grey one better. Perhaps the light grey parts were cheaper?

In the movie the jet is all black, so i suppose the dark grey is a closer to the movie. But this mini set is closer to the TLG set which is not black at all!

If you compare the piece right next to the "2" of "30162" on the instructions with the rest of the picture you can see it is definitely light gray compared to dark grey, the same can be said of Huw's picture, each part is the same colour in both images. I don't believe there is conflict between the two at the level suggested.

It is obvious that the one on the packet is the one provided, and the picture on the instructions is a different colour scheme. The most notable difference being the black triangular part on the back. It may be as Markey stated and that the lighter grey parts were cheaper.

@ darthdc Thanks for clearing that up. The article suggested that the two pictures it contained were the two be be compared. After looking at the instructions I can see the difference. If the top picture in the article was changed it may make it clearer.

At first I was confused since I came to this post via Facebook--so I thought we were comparing the packaging to the model below it (not the earlier post which has the actual light-colored model).

Aside from that, I prefer the darker grey. We watched Avengers last night (for like the umpteenth time!) and the quinjets are definately dark grey--not black or light grey.

Sorry, it wasn't very clear, was it. I've added the out-of-the-bag version to this article.

Hmm... I had not noticed this, but now I look again you are absolutely right. I must say I prefer the actual model we have got as it helps to break up the colour scheme a little bit and while it may be a little less accurate, it makes for a more attractive model.

Dark grey looks better IMO.

Thanks Huw--it make sense now if you haven't seen the other post. :)

Judging from the image on the polybag, am I the only one who expected trans-green cockpit windscreens instead of trans-black?

I like the multicolored version best. The variety of colors draws attention to its contours and also makes the Medium Stone Grey on its wing tips a little less jarring (since the color is distributed more evenly across the model).

The darker gray looks better, although it's still a great polybag set...

Yes dcmal you are the only one. Clearly trans black.

I like the dark grey one more. The light grey and black don't look good.

If you look it is the same! Look at the wings and then the dark grey there isn't a mistake? It's the lighting, you can see the light gret and dark grey difference if you look at the wings on the Instructions as shown!

I honestly don't mind at all, at least we get some free lego :-)

Posted by dcmal in United Kingdom, 30 Oct 2012 12:29

Hmm don't know, I really expected trans-green. But apparently that was wishful thinking. Just as long as The Green Brick Giant doesn't suddenly reveal himself to be The Black Brick Giant. ;)

Anyway, for those who don't see the difference in the models: The bricklink set image shows the image from the instructions, not from the polybag. The polybag image can be seen here:

On the polybags, the wings are clearly made of two different colours (dark gray for the leading and light gray for the trailing edges), and the dorsal 4 x 4 wedge plate is black. This is clearly different on the instructions.
