Is this the lineup for series 9?

  • Is this the lineup for series 9?

Posted by Huw, 29 Oct 2012 09:56. Filed under New sets.

The Daily Brick has published what it believes is a list of collectable minifigures series 9:

    • Alien Trooper
    • Chicken Suit Guy
    • Maid Marion
    • Heroic Knight
    • Cyclops
    • Mermaid
    • Fortune Teller
    • Dr. Splitz
    • Roller Derby Girl
    • Judge
    • Battle Mech
    • Caesar
    • Downtown Cop
    • Plumber
    • Waiter
    • Hollywood Starlet

As the team over there says, this series appears to have many completely new minifigs, rather then just changed genders. I know someone who will be particularly pleased with the Roller Derby Girl if that turns out to be true!

No more is known about them at the moment other than they are scheduled for release in January and will be in silver packets.

nice, cant wait at my local walmart the last couple packets of series 6,7 and 8 are in a series 8 box and 85% off. i bought all of the and now have more minifigs for my collection. hope the same happens with series 9.

Posted by Rockman Xtreme in United States, 29 Oct 2012 10:08

I want the Caesar, if it's real....

Posted by legograndtheftauto in N/A, 29 Oct 2012 10:09

also this may be old and this is a lego website but mega bloks catched on to a simmilar ripoff but with marvel. if lego did something like put licenced mf in series i would stop buying sets

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 10:12

If this IS a possible list, then I'm guessing it's a translation, or someones interpretation of pictures they've seen as 'Maid Marion' is a character name (as well as whatever 'Dr. Splitz' is EDIT: just googled the name... and he's a space monkey...) rather than an archetype eg 'Medieval Damsel'.

Some of them sound a bit uninspiring eg plumber... waiter... judge... But a number in there I've been hoping for, so it all remains to be seen what new parts etc they come with (if the list is true) to make them 'must haves'.

Posted by jondesouza in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 10:13

Does anyone else hope that 'Downtown Cop' is a corrupt, chisel-faced guy with three day stubble and an old mac?

Posted by CurvedRoadPlate in United States, 29 Oct 2012 10:17

The plumber fig should have his trousers hanging low in the back.

Posted by voyanuitoa in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 10:22

Battle Mech just sounds like it will be similar to the Evil/Robot rather than a minifigure in alarge amount of armour.

Posted by black_towr in United States, 29 Oct 2012 10:43

My sister plays roller derby so that is a must have. Looking forward to seeing if this list is legit.

Posted by skypirate in United States, 29 Oct 2012 10:48

I would still like to see the following:

- Davy Crockett or Daniel Boone
- Various marching band figures
- Accordion player, this could be re-purposed for polka, mariachi, Weird Al.

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 10:48

Not that much of a good lineup to the previous series from 2012. The only one which stands out is the Caesar figure. But otherwise this may just have to be a miss for me.

Posted by George G. in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 10:49

I'm thinking that the "Battle Mech" will be a rehash of the Space Marine but without the helmet and hair instead, aswell as different coloured armour :)

Posted by ChicoCheco in Norway, 29 Oct 2012 10:52

This list seems promising. I am particularly interested in Battle Mech, alien trooper and most importantly - the plumber!!

Posted by Yooha in Europe, 29 Oct 2012 10:53

Is Downtop Cop supposed to be a British bobby? We'll see, but I hope so. And Marylin Monroe for Hollywood Starlet ;)
But what are Dr. Splitz and Battle Mech?

Posted by cinemajay in United States, 29 Oct 2012 11:05

Parts swap and you've got yerself a MER-MAID MARION.

Also, plumber, FTW.

Posted by shaase in Canada, 29 Oct 2012 11:19

Lot of fantasy/historic in this series...so if this is a true list I am on board as the last series was rather boring (duplicates). Bring on the cyclops, though I'd prefer it being the size of the LotR Cave Troll.

Posted by LegoAthos in United States, 29 Oct 2012 11:21

They sound really nice: cyclops, caesar, chicken suit guy (has anyone noticed there are a lot of figures that start with 'C'?). Fortune teller, knight and judge sound neat too. What the heck is Dr. Splitz?

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 11:47

This would be an excellent selection by the looks of it I think! Caesar would be amazing!

Posted by grievous953 in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 12:25

Like the sound of some of these. The battle mech and cyclops sound good. I liked the minotaur minifigure so hopefully the cyclops will be similar. We may get more mythical monsters in future series, that would be cool. The alien trooper may be a terrible repetition or might have something good like a new head piece.

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 12:29

Really hoping this list is true! Lots of figures I've personally been hoping for. Most looking forward to Mermaid and Maid Marion (I'm guessing she's an archetypal Damsel in Distress), plus Hollywood Starlet, Caesar, Alien Trooper, Fortune Teller and Battle Mech could be cool.

Have no idea what Dr. Splitz could be though...

Posted by Nexus Force Blacksmith in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 12:36

Heroic Knight (If done properly), Battle Mech and Chicken Suit Guy are my top three. Better not get too excited though as I still haven't completed Series 8!

Posted by eastlands01 in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 12:42

I have just done some research on Wikipedia and Dr Splitz was a character in Captain Simian & the Space Monkeys (1996 - 1997). I wonder if Lego are going to bring out the same character then?

Dr. Splitz/Splitzy: An orangutan, originally a crazed and teased zoo orangutan, with a split personality, alternating between a formal scientific tone ("Dr. Splitz") and a good-old-boy Southern drawl ("Splitzy"). He was originally picked up from a zoo, where he was kept alone; stories in the show imply that he developed the dual personality to give himself some company. However, the two personalities have taken lives of their own and frequently quarrel: Splitzy seeing Dr. Splitz as a windbag, while Dr. Splitz looks upon Splitzy as uncouth. They also demonstrate differing skill sets at times, with Dr. Splitz excelling in scientific theory while Splitzy specializes in repairing and building the machines Dr. Splitz comes up with. Splitzy's other main job is to manifest and translate Dr. Splitz's scientific jargon into terms more understandable by the other crew members. On one episode, it is shown that he was a science lab monkey, what could explain his split-personality. In this episode is also shown he is afraid of being in cages and that he could be Claustrophobic. This is also shown in the episode where they separated, when Dr. Splitz was shown to be highly uncomfortable trapped in a small room. It is mentioned there that Splitzy manifested while he was in the zoo, so it is possible a combination of the experiments and being alone in the zoo created him.

Posted by eastlands01 in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 12:45

I like the sound of some of these, especially:-

Maid Marion (would go well with the Castles)
Heroic Knight
Fortune Teller
Judge
Caesar (All we need now is Ancient Egypt Lego sets)
Downtown Cop
Plumber
Waiter

If they look good, I'll buy them.

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 29 Oct 2012 13:10

Sounds like wishful thinking to me.

Posted by blounty23 in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 13:11

Usually the minifigures don't have a specific name, but maid Marion, and Ceaser seem to be real/Robin Hood people. Like little red riding hood in series 7 was named grandma visitor.
Also, I reckon the judge will have a cool curly wig. And the plumber should have low trousers at the back.

Posted by NeilJam in United States, 29 Oct 2012 13:16

This looks like a great line up if it turns out to be correct. I like the various animal suit figures they do, and Lego City was in dire need of judges so all those criminals can be formally sentenced. I wonder if the plumber will have any lower back printing?

Posted by CCC in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 13:17

Well I can't wait to MOC with them - Chicken Caesar anyone?

Dr Splitz might just be gorilla suit guy with a different coloured head - handy for Dr Zaius from Planet of the Apes.

Posted by legomaniac in United States, 29 Oct 2012 13:21

Chicken suit guy would be perfect for a Fast food restaurant MOC :D

Posted by Savage_Steel in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 13:28

OMG!!! Roller derby girl!!! Crossed fingers for Lego roller skates! @Huw, you're right! Thrilled! Though hoping it won't eat in my business ;-) proper excited about it. Though massively confused about why they would make one, over say a rugby player. Fingers crossed

Posted by jimred in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 13:34

I'm really liking the sound of these, but this Dr Splitz sounds an odd choice. I hope they do turn out to be true as having some great MOC ideas.

Posted by Ringskipper in United States, 29 Oct 2012 13:39

If true, I'm most excited for:

Maid Marion/Distressed Damsel,
Cyclops,
Mermaid,
Fortune Teller,
Roller Derby Girl,
Caesar,
Waiter.

Still holding out for a Medusa/Gorgon minifig!

Posted by Brick_Obsession in Canada, 29 Oct 2012 13:45

Highly disappointing! I do not see my "Hooters Waitress"

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 14:01

If this true, sounds like a better line up than series eight. Caesar, knight, waiter, cyclops and mermaid are musts for me.

Posted by MinifiguresPlus.com in United States, 29 Oct 2012 15:13

Silver? What was series 6?

Posted by vamproe in United States, 29 Oct 2012 15:15

Dr. splitz could be a jeckyl and hyde type character?

Posted by mo123567 in United States, 29 Oct 2012 15:25

If this list is true, it sounds like it could be one of my favorate series yet. If it is true, these names must be interpretations of what someone saw as opposed to official names. Maid Marion and Dr. Splitz raise the most suspician on my part.

Maid Marion could be just someone's interpretation of a more generic damsel in distress.

Dr. Splitz could be a generic monkey-man standing upright and wearing human clothing, maybe inspired by planet of the apes or something.

I'm hoping the judge would have a classic look with a powdered wig and I would also prefer the movie starlet to have a Marilyn Monroe-esque look as opposed to a modern design.

Posted by m. kalores in United States, 29 Oct 2012 15:28

If this is true, I'll be looking forward to the following:
Alien Trooper - has potential
Maid Marion - another minifig to add to my fantasy collection
Heroic Knight - another minifig to add to my fantasy collection
Cyclops - another minifig to add to my fantasy collection
Mermaid - hope the printing on the fish tail is better than the ocean king
Fortune Teller - has potential, hoping for gypsy
Dr. Splitz - Maybe he is a male doctor/surgeon to go with the nurse and surgeon.
Judge - Hoping for a wig on this guy with 17th century style clothes.
Battle Mech - good prospects with this, have to wait and see.
Caesar - a must have
Hollywood Starlet - has potential

Posted by Bumblepants in Cameroon, 29 Oct 2012 15:28

Would be fun if the Maid Marion was a modern update of the classic Forestmen babe from the '80s

Posted by King J in United States, 29 Oct 2012 16:07

Yes!!! If they make a Lego plunger piece, this series is my new favorite!

Now come on Lego, make a cow suit man and my life is complete :)

Posted by ickleb in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 16:21

sounding awesome!! can't wait for christmas to be done with for series 9 and batman!!

Posted by devilhead in United States, 29 Oct 2012 16:38

Most of these sound promising, but as usual, until I see something official, it is nothing more than rumor and speculation that holds no real weight with me.

As far as 'Caesar' goes, Roman Emperors used that as their title so it is not necessarily Julius Caesar.

Posted by Zackula in United States, 29 Oct 2012 17:18

Ever since my Walmart stopped stocking these, I have had to choose between paying jacked up TRU prices or not having any. TRU prices usually lose, let's see what happens with these.

Posted by kmvk83 in Netherlands, 29 Oct 2012 17:30

Dr Splitz is probably going to be a a wierd science kind of doctor. Like splitting the atom or something.
The tv series character as eastlans01 research found out, is very unlikely. Never seen a licenced figure in the minifigure collections.

I like alot of this series. Hope that the cyclops is not bald, with a normal stud minifig head, like the crashtest dummy.
But like al other series, 1 through 8, all had dissapointing figures and all had excellent figures. Not sports figure this time. Thank you LEGO. They are always a dissapointment.

Posted by TheMinifigFreak in United States, 29 Oct 2012 17:33

Wow, compared to the last few series, I wasn't very excited for this one, but if this list is true, this is the best CMF series yet!

Posted by Beanermonkey501 in Canada, 29 Oct 2012 17:41

battle mach and alien soldier. i have high hopes for those 2 mini figs, they better be new pieces or at least new colored pieces.

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 29 Oct 2012 17:46

Battle mech? I am so onboard it's not even funny.

Posted by lotrninja23 in United States, 29 Oct 2012 18:24

We have gotten a suited character in 3 (gorilla), 5 (lizard), 7 (bunny), and now 9 (chicken).
Anyone noticing a pattern?
I am concluding that we will get another suited character in series 11 (assuming we get that far as series 11 has not been confirmed yet).

Posted by jango e1-g3 in United States, 29 Oct 2012 18:51

Ha! I was right! We are getting a Chickian suit guy. That'll cool.

Posted by Legoguy29 in United States, 29 Oct 2012 19:01

Oh my! That sounds awesome! Can't wait to see if it's true/pics!:D

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 29 Oct 2012 19:44

Boo... more cops.

I really hope the plumber looks like Mario. And I can't wait for roller skates!

But we really need some pictures before we can judge.

Also if you have issue getting a set because no TRU/LBS around, try Amazon. I got a complete series 7 from a seller there for less than $52. That's less than normal price!

- Accordion player, this could be re-purposed for polka, mariachi, Weird Al.

Yes! That is a great idea!

Posted by TekkamanRaiden in Canada, 29 Oct 2012 21:20

That's a pretty impressive list.

Posted by King J in United States, 29 Oct 2012 21:24

Series 9 is going to have silver packets, and series 10 is confirmed to have gold packets. It seems like they might be stopping at 10. They've really set it up for it being the final one, and it's definitely a likely place to stop. I'm hoping not, but I guess they have to end sometime :(

Posted by razorwolf111 in United States, 29 Oct 2012 22:16

series 9 has a hobo OK!

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 30 Oct 2012 00:26

I wouldn't mind if they killed this line after 10 series. I have had my fill for now. Of course they can reboot in a few years after they come up with more ideas... maybe offer a special figure in each series.

Posted by mo123567 in United States, 30 Oct 2012 00:35

If you've had your fill after 10 series, just don't buy them anymore. Many people including myself would like this line to continue for a long time. I like having a way to get original minifigs outside of the usual police and firemen etc...

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 30 Oct 2012 01:01

^ Haha ... of course I can't stop collecting after getting them all. Just saying they can rebrand the line like they do for any other line. It gives old collectors an out and new collectors a fresh starting point. I cannot imagine we will be seeing series 17 before they stop or reboot.

Posted by murphquake in United States, 30 Oct 2012 01:05

Just a thought, about the names... has anyone considered that these names are based on someone seeing an image of the series, and not the names Lego has assigned to them? Obviously with many series we've named them ourselves... I keep calling the 2 different cheerleaders "Betty & Veronica" for example, but the names we all call them are usually a bit off from their official names (think "Galaxy Patrol" vs. "Space Marine")

Posted by nightmarevalkyrie in United States, 30 Oct 2012 02:07

This lineup seems nice I still need to finish series 8 and I wonder what color will the bag be? I would love to see a licensed Marvel vs. Dc minifigure pack, Lego should do what Mega Bloks is doing with their Marvel license and milk it till they run out of set ideas and just put vehicles that don't belong in the set themselves!

Posted by xccj in United States, 30 Oct 2012 03:14

I always love news about Collectible Minifigures. Thanks for keeping us updated!

Some of these seem like they'll be fairly basic and similiar to standard city figs (policeman, waiter) but I'll wait until I see images before I judge too much. I am wanting the mermaid, just because I didn't get the ones from the pricey PotC sets. And I'm intrigued to see just what the Battle Mech will turn out to be.

I'll probably end up buying them all, but it's nice to get a little taste of what's to come.

Posted by Vroomo in United Kingdom, 30 Oct 2012 04:07

Am I the only one wondering just what arms Chicken Suit guy would have? It's all well giving him a helmet & tail-piece but if it just has normal arms then it ain't really a chicken... Of course some Chima wings could probably be re-used.

Posted by crazytaxi in Netherlands, 30 Oct 2012 04:30

Maybe the arms of the Chicken Suit Guy are the same arms as in series 8 Vampire Bat but then in white? Like to see the photo's on this new series, but I'am not the only one.

Posted by CzechMate in Australia, 30 Oct 2012 05:31

Thoughts:

All sounds underwhelming, I was hoping for an Aboriginal, or an Aztec Priest :(

Posted by Psymon in United Kingdom, 30 Oct 2012 06:40

I can't believe they're on series 9 already, I'm still trying to catch up with the other 8.

Posted by CM4S in United States, 30 Oct 2012 07:03

Personally, I think this is like Series 8. Most of them sounded odd, but in the end they were right, just not clearly translated.

Some of these don't sound very interesting, I really like the sound of the Chicken suit guy!

Posted by ETAV8R in United States, 30 Oct 2012 07:10

I bet the chicken suit guy will have a repainted chima mask and most likely wings too. Arms from the man bat is also a possibility.

Overall not a bad list of characters.

Posted by Sammael in Yugoslavia, 30 Oct 2012 07:16

They are not stopping at 10. Series 11 has already been designed and there are people who have seen the prototypes.

Posted by Ben J in Germany, 30 Oct 2012 07:33

Ha ha, I proposed a chicken suit guy in one of the comment threads here. It would be great if they actually made one.

Posted by Ben J in Germany, 30 Oct 2012 07:52

By the way, Marilyn, Caesar and Cyclops were among the designs made by Alexandre Boudon, upon which many of the previous collectable minifigs were based:

http://fabjoueauxlego.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/characterdesignbourdon.jpg
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7128/7030349875_fa8bd9fb8e_z.jpg

I guess that makes an appearance by these characters somewhat likely.

Posted by the_real_indy in United States, 30 Oct 2012 11:33

Yep, this sounds perfectly legit to me... And yes, most likely someone just saw preliminary images or prototypes, and they just guessed at what their official names will be. Even the distribution of character-types seems exactly right.....

6x new characters that fit neatly into old classic themes: [Damsel in Distress], Heroic Knight, Mermaid, Alien Trooper, [Minifig Battle Robot], [Mutant Ape Scientist (more like Dr Zaius probably)]

plus 6x characters that might not otherwise get made in a normal set: [Roman Emperor], Cyclops, Fortune Teller, Roller Derby Girl, Chicken Suit Guy, Hollywood Starlet

plus 4x new civilians for completing the town scenes, maybe boring for little kids, but wanted by AFOLs: Judge, Downtown Cop, Plumber, Waiter

So yes, I say this is 100% real. Glad to see a Roman Emperor!! =)

Posted by the_real_indy in United States, 30 Oct 2012 11:48

^^ And thanks to Ben J for linking to those beautiful official TLG concept art images again...

If I am counting right, then so far they have done 24 out of the 51 characters shown on those two pages, either as CMF figs, or as part of full themes like LOTR, etc.

Plus 3 more coming out now, i.e., the Hollywood Starlet (perhaps based on the Marilyn Monroe concept art in the link), Caesar, and a Cyclops (at minifig-scale).

And then I'm sure we will see at least 3 more of these in the near future, most likely Albert Einstein, the Tibetan Warrior Monk, and the Marie Antoinette fig.

Sounds exactly right to me... =)

Posted by LEGOMinifigures1997 in Netherlands, 30 Oct 2012 12:05

It would be nice if Series 9 had bronze polybags, Series 10 silver and Series 11 gold. And what is a Dr. Splitz?

Posted by EveryNowAndZen in United States, 30 Oct 2012 16:21

Downtown Cop, I'd like to see a hard-boiled sort with stubble, a fedora and maybe a cloth piece to kit him out in a trench coat. Call him Brick Tracy maybe?
Dr. Splittz I can't see coming from the old show- probably more of a Jekyll-and-Hyde groove to him.
Judge I would think would be a classic sort, perhaps using the graduate's robe piece. No helmets and battle armor for him, that'd be just Dredd-ful.
Battle Mech and Alien Trooper? Yeah, baby.

Posted by Ben J in Germany, 30 Oct 2012 16:33

If the "Dr. Splitz" figure really turns out to be a mutant monkey-man, this will probably be their opportunity to re-use the gorilla headgear from series 3.

Posted by spency13 in United States, 31 Oct 2012 09:23

I don't know if this has been answered already but the bag color will be silver/grey.

Posted by the_real_indy in United States, 31 Oct 2012 09:48

^^ Yes, almost certainly it'll be the ape mask remade in earth-orange, to make him an orangutan, instead of a gorilla.

Put that on a lab-coat body, and you've got a cool remake of Dr. Zaius from Planet of the Apes. VERY ICONIC!! ;)

Posted by Be-Burger in Israel, 31 Oct 2012 14:30

Chicken Suit + Plumber - yeah totally man! :D

Posted by Ben J in Germany, 01 Nov 2012 06:55

Specific parts that will be difficult to re-use within the CMF line:

-Royal Guard's fur cap
-Gladiator helmet
-Lizard Man headgear
-Lady Liberty headgear
-Minotaur head
-Aztex Warrior helmet
-bagpipes
-Valkyrie helmet
-Cowgirl hat
-Diving helmet
