LEGO book lists

I'm sure you've worked out already that I'm rather partial to a good LEGO book. Suspecting that many of you are too, I've added a couple of new pages to the site that list LEGO books available at Amazon.

Although you can search for 'LEGO' in books at Amazon the results are not presented in any useful order and you get a load of random results thrown in for good measure.

So, to make it easier to see what's available -- and what's missing from your bookshelf -- I've created two pages, one listing LEGO books for AFOLs and one listing those for kids. Of course nearly all LEGO books are aimed at kids, but some are more suitable for AFOLs than others, hence the two lists.

If you're in US, UK, Canada, France, Italy, Germany or Spain the pages will show you listings from your local Amazon, and you'll also see a random book on the home page menu. I'll leave that there until Christmas. If you're not in one of those countries, you'll see Amazon.com listings, because I believe Amazon.com will ship books anywhere in the world.

While doing this, I was surprised by the number of kids books that have been released lately, many with minifigs and other parts attached to the cover. I guess they should really go in the database. A job for a rainy day :-) It's likely that I've missed some, so if you know of others, let me know the ISBN10 number and I'll get them added.

I hope that's of some use to you...

Another great function, thanks Huw. Also, isn't today a rainy day?

Nice one Huw was thinking we could do with it just the other day :-)

I'm a little surprised the Ninjago Guide book is in the kids section, but the DK reference guides are in the AFOL.

A lot of the latest kids ones are essentially a glorified comic, and almost as cheap as a normal comic with "free" gift.

Having just had a 'look inside' it's totally a kids book, in that it's unappealing to adults.

My three year old son is a big fan of LEGO City: Fight this Fire (ISBN-10: 0545317592
ISBN-13: 978-0545317597). There are a few other LEGO City storybooks available in the USA.

Huw, I am not seeing any books listed. (I'm in the Netherlands).

Posted by Saurus in United Kingdom, 01 Nov 2012 09:18

I can't see anything either (UK). Great idea for a page though.

Another useful feature, thank you very much Huw.
Have just clicked through and bought a book I was not previously aware of.

^^ ^^^ For people who can't see the books, turn off ad blocker.

Posted by rslotb in Netherlands, 01 Nov 2012 12:59

Indeed, that fixes it. Thanks!

^^^ Splendid, thank you.

Your Ninjago story book section is missing a lot of the chapter books published by Scholastic. These are US-exclusive as far as I know but have different stories than the UK storybooks published by Ladybird:

Kai: Ninja of Fire: http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Ninjago-Chapter-Book-Ninja/dp/0545348277/
Zane: Ninja of Ice: http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Ninjago-Chapter-Book-Ninja/dp/0545348285/
Cole: Ninja of Earth: http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Ninjago-Chapter-Book-Ninja/dp/0545369932/
Jay: Ninja of Lightning: http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Ninjago-Chapter-Book-Lightning/dp/0545369940/

It is also missing some of the young readers books:

Masters of Spinjitzu: http://www.amazon.com/Lego-Ninjago-Reader-Spinjitzu-Feb-01-2012/dp/B008KU6DJE/
Rise of the Snakes: http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Ninjago-Rise-Snakes-Reader/dp/0545435927/

Finally, I think that the Ninjago graphic novels should be listed separately from Ninjago story books.

Also, is this only supposed to be covering current themes? I ask because it is missing all of the BIONICLE and Exo-Force chapter books published by Scholastic, all of the BIONICLE graphic novels published by Papercutz, the BIONICLE young readers books by Scholastic, and various BIONICLE reference guides. I'm too lazy to go find links for all these books, but BIONICLEsector01 has a reasonably thorough list of the BIONICLE books: http://biosector01.com/wiki/index.php/Books . I feel at least the books "Makuta's Guide to the Universe", "Mata Nui's Guide to Bara Magna," and the BIONICLE chapter books should be added to the list since they have about as much appeal for adults and kids alike as the Hero Factory books do, even if they aren't nearly as current.

Overall, though, this list will surely be a great resource for many, especially since TLG hasn't distributed the books through their own site and catalogs in over six years, and the varying publishers make it hard to find all the books catalogued in one place.

Yes! Excellent resource. I am new to LEGO and have been wondering what sorts of books are out there.

Thanks for your new pages "LEGO books for AFOLs / for kids"
The books don't show with Firefox 17.0.
They're here with Internet Explorer.
Good luck with the bug correction, and greetings from France

^ Because they are iFrames served from Amazon if you have an ad. blocker they will not show. You'l have to disable it for this domain.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 02 Nov 2012 07:53

@Aanchir, thanks I'll get those added. I only included currently available books but if someonw wants to harvest the ISBN numbers I'll gladly add others.

Later: they are all added except http://www.amazon.com/Lego-Ninjago-Reader-Spinjitzu-Feb-01-2012/dp/B008KU6DJE/ which doesn't have an ISBN10 for some reason, and is only available in the US Amazon. I can't hide certain titles from specific country lists at the moment.

Posted by Bendijon in France, 02 Nov 2012 08:17

Yeah it worked. Thanks a lot !
Easy to remove the block. Should be similar with other ad blocking plugins.

Tools > Adblock plus > 'Disable for brickset.com'.

Even I'm an IT professional, It seems that brickset brings me back to childhood, everything was so easy then... Classic space rules :-)

@Huw: Great! After giving you that list I realized that I also missed one myself:

The Golden Weapons: http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Ninjago-Reader-Golden-Weapons/dp/0545401151/

Also here's an Amazon page with the ISBN10 for "Masters of Spinjitzu": http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Ninjago-Reader-Masters-Spinjitzu/dp/0545401143/

And finally, a third Hero Factory "young readers" book: http://www.amazon.com/DK-Readers-LEGO-Factory-Heroes/dp/0756690056/.

I will send you ISBNs of the BIONICLE books via e-mail so as not to clutter this thread.

Posted by dutchlegofan50 in Netherlands, 03 Nov 2012 02:43

I'm missing a section about Mindstorms....

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 03 Nov 2012 13:14

^^ Thanks, I've added those three. I may add the Bionicle ones but probably on an 'out of print kids list'.

^ I haven't added them as there are too many and I am no that familiar with them. Happy to do so if someone sends the ISBN10s, though...

Huw, Megan and I have a few obscure LEGO books and there are even more on the shelves at work. Would you like a scan of the covers and the ISBNs? It could take me a while to get around to it mind you.
