Advent day 5

Advent day 5Today is an excellent day for parts in two of the calendars. The tool rack for the firemen might not look like much but the parts are great. You can never have too many of the 1 x 2 profile bricks, and the 1 x 4 plate with two studs in red is uncommon, appearing in only three sets thus far.

Advent day 5In the Friends calendar we have a very nice snowman. The carrot tops in brown are unique to this set; usually they are green of course. What's more, we get a spare!

So, some nice parts in two of them. Now onto Star Wars...

Advent day 5I don't really know what to say about this one. I am a fan of micro-models, but this is taking it too far. 'Mini' and 'Micro' are fine, but not 'Nano'! Although we can all see it's a MTT, and I suppose it's quite cleverly designed, it's just a bit too small, isn't it. So..

City - 7, not much of a model but great parts.
Friends - 9, everything an Advent calendar model should be.
Star Wars - 5, too small, too few parts.

Annoying how the chainsaw doesn't fit on the rack...

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 05 Dec 2012 15:04

Fits on my rack. Just turn the top handle backwards (as in facing the same direction as the back handle) and attach it to that.

@Graysmith This is a very minor complaint, but I don't like it when the bottom of the brick is showing

I had a idea what came out of the star wars calender, i thought that it could be a MTT. But i also thought it could come from the extended universe. In my opinion the mtt is the worst yet in the star wars calender. I hope tomorrows will be better[I hope it's the Snowman].

I am doing 2 calendars each day, the Friends for my 6 year old, and Star Wars for me (via Kevbags, thanks!).

I must say the mini snowman was great in Friends today, but the micro MTT is pretty poor. It could be as easily a pile of mud as an MTT.

MTT? Not sure I know what that is. To me it looks like Jabba's Sail Barge as seen in Return Of The Jedi. My son is building the CIty AC and he loves the tool rack, he has already populated it with tools from other sets.

I was pretty excited (more than perhaps I should have been) when my daughter offered me her extra brown carrot top this morning (she gives me her extra pieces every morning, great kid!). I was also pretty please for her with the model of the snowman. It does look pretty good and she likes it a lot.

I was pleased with the City set today. Those masonary bricks are part of the reason I went with the City over the Star Wars (plus, our TRU was well overstocked with SW calendars last year and put them on dirt cheap after the holidays. Lookin' like there might be a repeat of that this year.)

/sarcasm
After seeing today's Star Wars model, the $50.00 RRP of that set seems justified.

@Dread; The Trade Federation MTT was a tank- like machine designed to carry battle driods into battle

At first I though it was a Sandcrawler, but upon reflection it does look more like a MTT. Makes sense as all the rest of the models so far are from Ep1. But I agree, it's quite disappointing

I think you forgot the decimal in front of your rating for the MTT.

Posted by Margot in United States, 05 Dec 2012 16:09

Star Wars- a 3. However my 7 year old did immediately recognize it as a "droid carrier" which impressed me since I wasn't sure what it was at first. Way too small...

If the snowman is "everything an Advent calendar model should be," why doesn't it get a 10?

Posted by bricksan in United Kingdom, 05 Dec 2012 16:13

I thought the City was poor and so far the entire calendar has been poor. Yet the Friends one has been awesome and if it carries on could be the best yet.

Posted by Dash Justice in United States, 05 Dec 2012 16:13

I belive you have the MTT reversed in the picture, the round part is supposed to be the door, and the taller part is in front.

Posted by Skywalker1966 in United States, 05 Dec 2012 16:16

Erm, how exactly does that thing look like an MTT? The real MTT had a front half that was taller than the back half... Wait, just noticed that the picture was from the back right angle of tank. Now it looks more like an MTT. :P Still, that's what, nine parts? Thanks, but no thanks, I still don't like it... I'll stick with my old 4924 Advent Calendar. Way more bang for the buck...

The city accessories are just fine, but that MTT is really an overkill. My friend he didn't know what that actually should be.

Posted by BrickBob09 in United Kingdom, 05 Dec 2012 16:23

@Dash and others; Yes, I also think it should be the other way around, but this is the way it's shown in the 'instructions' on the advent door.

I love the MTT. Instantly recognisable.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 05 Dec 2012 17:25

I did recognise the MTT, but it really is dreadful, a contender for the worst Advent Calendar model of all time I think. Roll on tomorrow to make up for it.

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 05 Dec 2012 18:17

^ I couldn't agree more.

Posted by HokieJoe99 in United States, 05 Dec 2012 18:25

Do you think they could have put a 1x2 clear plate under the MTT to simulate the way they hover off the ground? That would have cost them 1 extra piece, but it would have prevented the 'pile of mud' comparisons unless of course you live where there are floating piles of mud. I think a 5 is a little too high for this pile.

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 05 Dec 2012 18:40

and a final point, if the MTT today is a 5, I really don't want to see a 2 or a 3. Very generous scoring.

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 05 Dec 2012 19:09

It's pretty much a travesty that a licensed set that costs much more than the other 2 calendars has such substandard models. They could have been a little bit bigger, my God - it's just taking the p€&@...

The MTT is really disappointing. It would not be hard to make a good one using only nine pieces, this one was in the first 5 hits when I Google imaged it.

Hmmm, the MTT was the first disappointing day in the SW advent calendar, for me. It's just too small, even my family said so. My brother and mum thought it was some sort of creature at first, like a Bantha, or perhaps a slug... It's a shame. Oh well, I guess it is sort of cute. But cute could have been achieved with more I think.

Posted by fuelbreak in Canada, 05 Dec 2012 22:44

I will be using the MTT as a mouse droid along with my other black ones... The only thing i could think of.

Posted by cheshirecat in United Kingdom, 06 Dec 2012 03:47

My 4 year old made his MTT yesterday morning - he had no idea what it was when I came home. Admittedly he'd made it very wrong but it looked somewhat like a speeder bike which is what we eventually decided on. In fact, it looked more like a speeder bike than the above looks like an MTT.

Posted by Skydude in United States, 06 Dec 2012 07:24

Well for those folks wishing it had extra pieces to make it hover, at least, I had 2 extra 1x1 round studs in clear from previous days to use for just that purpose.

It still looks bad, but maybe slightly better.

I managed to build the snowman without opening the bag - a LEGO first for me.

Now for something more ambitious!
