New train sets on the way!

New set news Posted by Huw, Dec 22 2009 8:35AM

There have been rumours on other sites but now it's (semi) official! Sky News ran an article yesterday about a shortage of LEGO in UK shops. The accompanying video reveals some of the summer Star Wars sets and also, more importantly, what looks like two new trains! Read the article and watch the video for yourself and see what you think: the trains are about 1m 40s in. Eurobricks has captured some stills in case you miss them. They appear to be Power Functions trains: the box has the orange stripe showing PF components down the side.

It's going to be another very expensive year!! I can't wait! Also if you look to her left, you can see a few other items like a passenger platform (with a bridge similar to 10128 and 7822) and rail crane (similar to 4525)...

Wow, those trains DO look good!

Posted by legofan666666 in United States, Dec 22 2009 9:26AM:

woah... the trains look extremely cool! I love the city trains-the new ones look great!

Posted by Murdoch17 in United States, Dec 22 2009 9:26AM:

Is that what I think it is? The yellow engine looks English... mabye not. Could someone please tell me what it looks like? I'm not very good at telling which diesel looks like what. Anyway, I hope they are not too expensive, because I just bought the Emerald Night. They look like good sets, but I'm just not sure what type the engine is!

I think it's just a generic diesel, in yellow and dark grey. LEGO tend not to model them on anything specific although it looks to be more European than North American.

Huw the new battle packs are there to

Posted by nadnerb112 in United States, Dec 22 2009 10:29AM:

Lol they showed us the summer star wars. The cave and the wampa looks pretty nice.

Posted by clone captian cazooki in United Kingdom, Dec 22 2009 10:40AM:

@nadnerb112 do you get admiral ackbar guy with it and do you think lego wanted them to show it?

Posted by R4-G9 in Canada, Dec 22 2009 10:46AM:

the "admiral ackbar guy" was nadarr and does not come with the wampa cave he comes with greaves's star fighter

Posted by nadnerb112 in United States, Dec 22 2009 10:46AM:

@ CLone Captain Cazooki, Lego is probaly ticked off by that. And the "ackbar" guy doesn't come with the hoth, he comes with grevious' ship.

Anyway If you pause at 14 look at the Wampa cave BOX in the back and in front of it you can see palpatine's shuttle.

The train looks cool.

Posted by Topsy Cret in Sweden, Dec 22 2009 11:17AM:

Saw this on Eurobricks this morning - great news! Although I hope they release versions without the PF items, seeing as that will bring the price down quite a bit.

Posted by robsy43 in United States, Dec 22 2009 11:19AM:

I hope it is not remote controlled.

Posted by robsy43 in United States, Dec 22 2009 11:20AM:

Was she a Lego representative?

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, Dec 22 2009 11:21AM:

Yes - she is an official Lego rep; her sequence was probably filmed at Lego's offices in Slough, UK.

Posted by iabstract in United States, Dec 22 2009 12:10PM:

Saw a few summer Star Wars spoilers in there. The Wampa cave, the new Slave I in the background, Plu Kon (or whatever his name is), and another I can't identify (Grievous? around 14 seconds, on the left-hand side, and I think during the pan around 3-5 seconds in), plus the one in front of the Wampa box, which someone else said was the emperor's shuttle. The train looks like it's a city set. Curious they would reveal those and not the spring sets.

If we look carefully the video we can guess the red one with the power function on the box is not a train but a new airport shuttle.
And for the big yellow truck? new Lego truck or not?

Posted by jackmap in United States, Dec 22 2009 2:37PM:

YAY - More trains for all the Lego fans out there!!! :-D

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, Dec 22 2009 3:31PM:

The "red one" is a standard passenger train.

Posted by Harvey142009 in United States, Dec 22 2009 4:51PM:

wow wow wow... unique train shapes

Posted by Skut in Australia, Dec 22 2009 5:28PM:

Just a guess but that red train behind her left ear appears to be a modern descendent of 7725. The cars look too big to be a new airport shuttle IMHO.

Posted by toplessjeep in United States, Dec 22 2009 6:00PM:

I know for a fact from a friend that got a first hand look at the new trains, that the Red one is a passenger train, and for those that are curious, the nose is brick built and not a solid one piece like the last R/C train.

Posted by Crow5444 in United States, Dec 22 2009 6:54PM:

I hope that big yellow truck comes out as a set then I another to add to the city.

Posted by southpaw in United States, Dec 22 2009 9:11PM:

Hopefully they will have some fairly cheap trains sets coming out. Last couple of lego train sets have been pretty expensive. I'd rather have some smaller sets.

Posted by robsy43 in United States, Dec 22 2009 10:51PM:

They are probablly more expensive because they come as a whole set, not just the train.

Posted by Skut in Australia, Dec 22 2009 11:47PM:

Murdoch17, just a guess based on what I can see from the screen capture, but the locomotive loks a bit like an EMD SD70 (American diesel electric). However there is a crane on the table in front of the box which obscures the nose of the loco, so it's prerry hard to say for sure.

Posted by MAH4546 in United States, Dec 23 2009 3:59AM:

The yellow truck is "3221 - LEGO Truck." Mid-2010 release.

Posted by PhiMarseille in France, Dec 23 2009 5:02AM:

I am so impatient!! but I hope this time we will have a COMPLET range of train sets!!! and not only city train and cargo + a small trainstation!! We want differents wagons as it was in the past, or new sets like a cargo station connected with seaport, warehouses! ... cross the fingers, it's just the beginning...

Posted by af.riem in Netherlands, Dec 23 2009 6:25AM:

At a picture on flickr and on a Dutch site of a shop is rited that the lego trainsets are numberd:
- 7936 Level Crossing
- 7937 Train Station
- 7938 Passenger Train
- 7939 Cargo Train

On the picture I see that the trains have the new controls. So probably they are going to be expensive.

Posted by Emerald Night in United States, Dec 23 2009 6:37AM:

These trains look great. I am excited that they involve power functions.

Posted by Sharpy in Australia, Dec 23 2009 8:41AM:

Hooray for a return of trains and railway additions! That certainly looks like a station with white pedestrian footbridge over her right shoulder. And the little red train is definately the modern version of the 7725 which I never got to have in my younger days so I'll definately grab that... Now if they can only bring me a modern 7740 that would make my next year! :)

Posted by Legoman72 in Norway, Dec 23 2009 9:42AM:

This is going to be great. I have also seen the pictures in a norwegian retailers catalouge that I had a chance to see. They are supposedly to be released in august next year, at least in Norway, so we`ll have to be patient.

Posted by carding in United Kingdom, Dec 23 2009 11:08AM:

thoses trains are just what I need for my city but that yellow one look too US!

Posted by mojolego in United States, Dec 23 2009 11:34AM:

With the pantograph and its general shape, the yellow engine reminds me of European electric locomotives such as the BR Class 92.

EDIT - If you link to an image on Flickr/Brickshelf/where-ever that doesn't have a watermark, BUT other images in the same directory *are* watermarked as confidential, it will likely get deleted too ... please, if you find interesting set images, use the "contact us!" link on the right hand side; we will probably have seen them already but we like hearing from you. Thanks !

As I said, I know it's frustrating, but we respect Lego's decision not to want these images in the public domain at this time. Thanks for understanding.

Would like a few more steam locomotives like Emerald Night but what choice do you have? Would like a closer look at the new Slave 1
