Advent day 10

  • Advent day 10

Posted by Huw, 10 Dec 2012 14:19. Filed under Advent countdown.

Advent day 10Continuing on with the fire and Christmas theme of the City calendar (not!), we have a sack barrow and four wheels and tyres today. Like we don't all have enough wheels and tyres already...

Advent day 10Today's Friends model is another sledge that can be attached to the other so both Olivia and Christina (I'm told she's Christina and not Stephanie as I originally thought) can sledge together.

Advent day 10And in the Star Wars window today we have an AT-AT. There are some models that work really well in miniature (like the Droid Fighter Naboo fighter) but this isn't one of them!

    City -- 1, useless...
    Friends -- 7, cute.
Star Wars -- 4, what can I say...?

Today was not a very good day, was it?

I think Friends deserves higher and City deserves lower on the points. And Star Wars is just disappointing. I agree today was defiantly not a good day, I hope we move way from mechanics tomorrow, otherwise our FIRE themed ADVENT calendar sort of loses the seasonal fun.

I only get the Star Wars one, but I liked the AT-AT. Not as good as the other mini-models, but WAY better than the droid whatever it was :P

I like the AT-AT, very cute.

Posted by Grahame in New Zealand, 10 Dec 2012 14:42

I think a score of 1 is somewhat harsh, maybe the wheels will come in handy tomorrow...

Posted by TyoSolo in United Kingdom, 10 Dec 2012 14:44

Got to agree re: the City one. Blooming rubbish. The sack barrow will come in handy, but wheels... everyone already has loads of wheels!

My 3yr old son's Lego Cars Luigi and Guido were over the moon: itsa whita tires! (ok, the rims are white, but what does a three year old know)

Posted by Trandoshan in Canada, 10 Dec 2012 14:53

I think the AT-AT's cute.

It's a bit odd that the design uses three 1x2 bricks instead of a 2x3.

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 10 Dec 2012 14:55

City deserves better than a 1. Yeah, it's a bit of an odd one, but the red hand truck isn't too common and has only appeared in a few sets in recent years. I didn't own one so for me that's a nice addition to the collection. It may not be a 10/10 Best Ever, but surely it's not a 1 either unless your family was killed by a red hand truck.

The micro AT-ATs in 3866 The Battle of Hoth are much better!

I have to echo atkinsar and Trandoshan. That AT-AT is cute!

Posted by piratemania7 in United States, 10 Dec 2012 15:00

WOW, interesting comments all around! I agree, a lot of the days have been quite lame with just a lot of "parts" who knows what LEGO's true intentions are with these advent calendars huh? Maybe they just want to give us lots of parts!

I wish these were posted at the last midnight on earth the day after (the night of). There is no way to avoid these spoilers in my RSS reader. :(

I actually really like the AT-AT, perfect for a toy version for a minifigure to play with, it could be a minifig-scale LEGO set. :)
Actually it would be somewhat large for a minifig, but who wouldn't like a massive AT-AT to play with? ;)

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 10 Dec 2012 15:16

I don't think today's line up was very good really. The Star Wars one was rather bad ad the City one a laugh.

Posted by beegeedee in Ireland, 10 Dec 2012 15:20

Wish I had the city one. Not available in the shops here. I got Star Wars instead and it has been a huge disappointment.
Surely they could do a little better.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 10 Dec 2012 15:21

The AT-AT is poor in my opinion, a very lazy and overly simple design, an AT-ST would have worked better I think.

Posted by Margot in United States, 10 Dec 2012 15:32

Love the AT-AT! Glad you gave something a 1, I agree with the city score.

Posted by MosesWolfwood in United States, 10 Dec 2012 15:41

Can't believe some people don't like the AT-AT. It's definitely my favorite out of the calendar so far. I agree it would make more sense to just use a 2x3 but it's not that big of an issue.

Posted by Kyros7 in United States, 10 Dec 2012 16:03

I actually like the city one. It goes well with yesterday's mechanic and it will also go well with the car the mechanic drives on the front of the box, whenever we get it. Granted, it isn't my favorite city calendar gift, but it is still fun when combined with other things. I would score it a 3.

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 10 Dec 2012 16:04

I really love the AT-AT also. I don't really understand the criticism its getting. as others has said - its really cute and iconic :)

Posted by Dragon_Master_48 in United States, 10 Dec 2012 16:41

City: That's really low; I mean... really, REALLY, unnecessarily low... at least it's not just the wheels...

Friends: Agree.

Star Wars: Really, I think it should be even a little higher: from the looks of it, it seems to be a great little model.

Huw must have got up on the wrong side of bed today!

Posted by Starik20X7 in Australia, 10 Dec 2012 16:47

The City one isn't that bad at all. I'm finding a lot of the rubber tyres from my old sets have begun to deteriorate, so having new ones to replace them with is always welcome.

As for the AT-AT, I'm surprised they didn't just package the one that comes with the Battle of Hoth game!

Posted by sadowsk1 in United States, 10 Dec 2012 17:10

I like the AT-AT too!

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 10 Dec 2012 17:25

The AT-AT is deffo cute! Worth a 6 at least!
Very disappointed by the City offering today. It's been pretty weak so far. The Friends one is my favouritest advent calendar so far. Well, after my chocolatey one :-)

Posted by legomaniac in United States, 10 Dec 2012 17:44

I dont have the city advent calender as you may know why :)
I already have 4 dolly trucks and a TON of those tires. I'd give it a Zero for today.

Friends set actually looks great.

Posted by Chills in United States, 10 Dec 2012 17:50

I also really like the AT-AT. Its way better than the MTT, and close to the Naboo Starfighter. I think it deserves a 6.

Posted by klatu003 in United States, 10 Dec 2012 18:00

Agree the AT-AT is cute. They just left out a crucial part for the city one -- a large flame. Then it could fit into the fire theme. Nothing says Christmas fire like burning tires.

Posted by Skydude in United States, 10 Dec 2012 18:24

I would put up another point or two on the AT-AT myself. It's a cute little model, and works well despite its simplicity.

Posted by Outer Rim Emperor in United States, 10 Dec 2012 20:22

How are you guys disappointed with the AT-AT? I think it's a great design. You can't get too detailed with a micro scale of this size. It's definitely one of the better micro scale designs in the calendar.

Posted by jinxjinx550 in United States, 10 Dec 2012 20:52

The wheels in the city set are like the story of the little girl who gets a big pile of horse manure for Christmas. As an optimistic child, she immediately begins to search around, because if there's that much horse poop, there's got to be a pony around here SOMEwhere.

Posted by tamamahm in United States, 10 Dec 2012 21:36

I have to say, I'm happier with the Friends Advent Calendar than I thought I would be. Everything really is going together nicely to make a wonderful little themed set.
My son is opening last year's Star Wars calendar this year. Comparing what he is getting daily to the models this year, there is absolutely no comparison between the two. I am very glad I did not buy the Star Wars set from this year.

Posted by fuelbreak in Canada, 10 Dec 2012 21:53

I liked the at-at as well

Posted by chrismajor2124 in United States, 10 Dec 2012 22:07

I don't know, the AT-AT looks great

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 10 Dec 2012 22:59

At least that 3177 can use those tires/tyres now if the others need changing. 6461 would likely agree on it.

Posted by tbakerman in United Kingdom, 11 Dec 2012 02:20

Admittedly, the city calendar is rubbish today, and the friends calendar is perfectly scored, but star wars deserves more!

For the young, playful kids that the majority of these are aimed for, they won't mind if this model is slightly out of shape.....

Posted by Albus in Australia, 11 Dec 2012 04:20

Wow, I was really surprised! I looked at the SW rating first (the calendar which I have), and thought, "what?!?!". I loved the model! Ok, it may not be as shapely or accurate as the naboo or droid fighters, butI think it's sheer cuteness (of which it has a lot) makes up for it! It should at least be more than the MTT (my least favourite so far - it has the shape, and is accurate, but it is just too small...).

As for City, I thought a 1 was really harsh. Have there been any under 4 apart from that one? Sure, everyone has tyres, but does everyone have spare tyres which aren't being used on cars? I know I only have a few (Town Plan is the only instance I can think of).

Ah well, I liked the AT-AT, my favourite so far simply because of it's cuteness, (and it's an AT-AT!), but that's just my opinion.

Keep the reviews up, I look forward to the final add-up of the ratings! I suspect Friends is in the lead... ;)

I like the AT-AT micro build...

Posted by Yooha in Europe, 11 Dec 2012 07:05

In that case, LEGO should make some City vehicles without wheels. Everyone has a bunch of wheels at home after all. And I would be surprised if no small vehicle - without wheels - appeared in the calendar on some later day.

Posted by Admiral Phil in United States, 11 Dec 2012 08:02

I, personally, would like some more wheels.

Posted by flump in United Kingdom, 11 Dec 2012 09:01

I like the AT-AT!

City one is not useless you will se tomorrow

Posted by The_Creator in United States, 11 Dec 2012 14:35

That AT-AT is terrible :P I think the Friends advent calendar has actually had better parts than the other two :P

The at-at is nice
PLEASE LOOK AT MY PROFILE:)
