Advent day 20
Posted by Huw, 20 Dec 2012 14:21. Filed under Advent countdown.
As you can probably tell, I'm back from my travels now. I had a great time on a 'Christmas markets cruise' to Gothenburg, Copenhagen and Hamburg. I managed to find, and visit, the LEGO brand stores in the latter two cities. The highlight of the trip however, was Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg which is the most incredible model railway, the largest in the world. To call it a 'model railway' though is doing it a disservice since it's so much more than that. If you have the chance to visit, I highly recommend it. You'll need a good half day to appreciate it all though, there is so much of it too see. My wife and I spent four hours there: she was fixated by the airport segment in which aircraft taxi, take-off and land. We've now seen enough Christmas markets -- Liseberg, Tivoli Gardens and just about everywhere you looked in Hamburg -- to last a lifetime!
Anyway, onto today's advent calendar windows...
Today's City window contains a wheelbarrow and a shovel for the snow. The wheelbarrow was only introduced this year, so it's useful to get one in the calendar. Not very festive, or 'fire-y', but perhaps tomorrow we'll get a workman to push it.
In the Friends calendar we have a delightful flower arrangement, or is it a section of garden? Maybe the plant would have been better in a pot rather than on some 'grass'.
In the Star Wars window we have another micro-model, General Grievous' Starfighter. It's a pretty good rendition given the scale. I particularly like the way they've managed to get the brown and tan stripes in, like on the larger version.City -- 8, not too exciting but every city needs more wheelbarrows.
Friends -- 5, could have been better.
Star Wars -- 8, another great micro-model.
I'd like to thank bluemoose for posting the advent articles in my stead. I hope you enjoyed reading his perspective on the models, I know I did. Any mistakes in the construction of the models (like yesterday's Star Wars one) are entirely mine, I did them all in a hurry before I went :-)
