get one in spokane washington!

Posted by scholte23 in Australia, 12 Feb 2010 00:46

they really need to put one in Sydney, Australia

Posted by MisterFubar in United States, 12 Feb 2010 07:36

I keep hoping they open one up in the Kansas City area, preferably on the Missouri side so I can still avoid sales tax when I order online.

I think my closest store is in OK City and is a 5 hour drive...

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2010 07:55

That's quite an expansion plan. How many will there be in total in the US? In the UK we had 5 but two of them shut 5 years or so ago. There's no sign of expansion here, sadly.

Posted by michaelvader in United States, 12 Feb 2010 08:00

The 1st one in Texas is the one I always go to. its like 30min. away. But they sould make more in UK.

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2010 08:18

Once these are open, I think that makes it somewhere around 42 stores in the US, unless any have closed recently.

Posted by I like Lego in Canada, 12 Feb 2010 08:28

I wish they had Lego Stores here (Canada). Lego lied to me on a map where they said there was a Lego Store.

Posted by asteciuc in United States, 12 Feb 2010 08:37

There should be at least one in every state. The closest one to me is 3 hours away in Chicago...

Posted by Murdoch17 in United States, 12 Feb 2010 08:59

Why not Missouri? I say there should be one in St. Louis, and one in Kansas City! The closest one for me is Chicago! That way, everyone, (except those living in the center of Missouri) would be happy! Again, Why Not Missouri? Sure, we may not be big like Chicago, New York City, or even Houston, but we love Lego too!

Posted by jinxjinx550 in United States, 12 Feb 2010 09:14

LEGO's a business, and they would be crazy to open a store where there's not enough of a demonstrated demand. I think that's why we should all be working in some way or other to build up the LEGO demand, especially among kids. If you're not part of a club that can put on events for kids, you could be giving out LEGO bricks for halloween, building models of buildings in your area and displaying them in public places, or doing other things to attract new LEGO customers.

Posted by vynsane in United States, 12 Feb 2010 09:37

wow... THREE new stores in the NY metro area? i can definitely understand the one in NYC, and the one at the roosevelt field mall, but the elmhurst location will be nearly right between them! add the original NY store in the palisade's mall (which is a like a 45-70 minute drive from manhattan, depending on traffic) and 'downstate' is MORE than covered. i understand the need to situate the stores where the money is, but surely there's a sizable mall in western and/or upstate NY (meaning buffalo/rochester/syracuse and/or albany/saratoga) that would be worthy of housing one of these stores. i think the palisades center store will suffer because of this, but maybe that will make it easier to find things i want there, as it's the closest to my house ;)

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 12 Feb 2010 09:41

THREE in new york?! california and florida and new york get all the attention!

Posted by vynsane in United States, 12 Feb 2010 10:47

hey, it's a question of population density...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_population_density

although, going by that logic, washington D.C. should have about 20 LEGO stores by now.

Posted by WedgeAntilles in United States, 12 Feb 2010 10:53

I still don't get why these states get so many stores. Good old Pennsylvania still has but one LEGO store in King of Prussia, but I find it unfair that PA gets so often overlooked. Put one here in Central PA!

Posted by Batmaniam in Canada, 12 Feb 2010 10:53

Do you think that there will be a store in Canada any time soon? I hope so, it seems kind of unfair.

Posted by clone captian cazooki in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2010 11:02

Another in america the only place that doesnt need one why none in the uk

Posted by darthdc in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2010 11:31

After the one in Birmingham shut down, the only ones in the UK are down south. Nearest one is a 140 mile round trip. Need some in midlands and up north over here.

Posted by R4-G9 in Canada, 12 Feb 2010 13:18

there is a "lego" store in canada, it is in ontario, here is a link:
http://toybuildingzone.com/
i wish they would make more, like in calgary.

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 12 Feb 2010 14:18

Lucky Americans... We NEED more LEGO stores in the UK! At least in London! Or Manchester! *Sighs*

Posted by HQuiff in Ireland, 12 Feb 2010 14:46

What about Ireland?! It may not be big... but we don't have a single one!!! Everyone else is so lucky to even have one in their country! Btw, where are the ones in the UK based?

Posted by loganevanlegos in United States, 12 Feb 2010 14:55

What about Michigan, in MI we have 0. the closest is in Chicago (3-4 hours away)!!

LEL…

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 12 Feb 2010 14:57

@HQuiff: There are three of them: in London Bluewater, Brighton, and Milton Keynes!

Posted by alpha 40 in United States, 12 Feb 2010 14:59

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw the one in Garden City and was happy, but NYC.
Good move lego especially because here to west nyack is like 1 1/2 hours and so is NYC but I go there more often. My onlyquestion is why not one in Connecticut. 1. it is there headquarters for North America, 2. It is a highly populated state, and 3. I live there.

Posted by southpaw in United States, 12 Feb 2010 15:29

Any more info on the Rockefeller Center Store in NY? I'm really exited about that one. I don't have one anywhere near me exept that one now!!! Finally ones opening near me!

Posted by tiberium_blue in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2010 15:31

@Alemas: There's supposed to be a 'Legoland Discovery Centre' opening in the Trafford Centre, Manchester in time for Easter:

Posted by tontonsega in France, 12 Feb 2010 15:36

Yes!!..very happy for NYC!!
Don't need to go to Palisades Center anymore when I am in BIG APPLE.
Now I want lego stores in FRANCE!!!!

Posted by southpaw in United States, 12 Feb 2010 16:18

^cool, I went to the store in Palisades mall. It was pretty fun, but not worth my 2 hour drive plus a half hour of trying to find parking. :P

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 12 Feb 2010 16:21

Cool! More LEGO stores.

Also, they are making a LEGOLAND in Florida!!!!!! YAY!!!!!

Posted by krysto2002 in United States, 12 Feb 2010 17:05

Well, I'm not complaining, that's a heck of a lot closer to me than the one in the Pallisades Center, I might actually be able to go more often (Yay!).

Posted by bmwlego in United States, 12 Feb 2010 17:39

I am so pumped about this news and have been since I found out in October!

I am 20 minutes from the Roosevelt Field Store and I'm sure that this will become a part of my weekly shopping routine. The Queens Center Mall store that should be opening in the Fall can become a reason to stick around in Queens after work.

jinxjinx550:Great suggestions for trying to get a LEGO Store opened in your area. Unlike others in this discussion thread you have provided ideas to help build up the demand for LEGO in your area.

Here is another suggestion, let LEGO know that you would like a LEGO Store in your neighborhood. I've done this several times via phone and email. Whenever you call LEGO you are given the option to take a survey at the end of your call and this is your opportunity to voice your opinion. I am sure that LEGO takes into account numerous factors when deciding a location for a new store and customer feedback is one.

Finally, LEGO Stores near NYC!

As for you UK folks, 3 stores is too few! No store in London?

If anybody (20 years old and up) lives in the Long Island area and would like to start a LUG, let me know through brickset.

Posted by legomaniac in United States, 12 Feb 2010 17:39

Even if I had a store near me i probbly would go, because its a kids place, and I feel awkward being around kids even though im a big kid :P

Posted by Lego-Dude in Canada, 12 Feb 2010 18:19

Lucky America, Us Canadians aren't getting one, When oh When will we finally get a Lego Store? D8

Posted by sebulba in Australia, 12 Feb 2010 19:34

@scholte23: I agree. Australia needs a store badly. Especially since we have to pay an extra $45 on postage when purchasing exclusives from shop@home. That money could have been spent on more Lego if there was a store that sells exclusives somewhere in the country.

Posted by TXClark in United States, 12 Feb 2010 19:55

Jeez, another Lego store opening in Texas in the wrong spot. How about closing a Lego store in the DFW area or the other Houston area Lego store and open one up in Austin and or San Antonio? It seriously only takes 10 minutes to get to/from each of the DFW area Lego stores, too close!

Posted by R4-G9 in Canada, 12 Feb 2010 20:48

Lego-Dude, we have one in canada, see my other post, but i wish we had more!

Posted by Retsnom Kcor in United States, 12 Feb 2010 22:11

Why, might I ask, does LEGO find that it is necessary to drown us in LEGO stores when there are several countries/continents that could do with close to a dozen. And are there any in Denmark, because LEGO is Danish... yeah... Come to think of it, why is the US getting another LEGOLAND? We already have one...

Posted by Crow5444 in United States, 13 Feb 2010 01:55

There's only 2 of 3 Lego stores in Ohio but there too far away for me to go to there needs to be more of them build around here.

Posted by clone captian cazooki in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2010 03:36

argh I really want one in scotland we dont have a single one

Posted by legoguysw in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2010 04:25

Come on, open another one in the UK. They're all down South, they need one somewhere in the North, or atleast somewhere central (re-open the Birmingham one!)

Posted by brickmatt in United States, 13 Feb 2010 11:01

The U.S. is probably getting a lot of new stores because of it's size: Lego has almost doubled the number of stores in the U.S. over the past 2 or 3 years, and there's still none within a reasonable driving distance of my home town. I will agree that the rest of the world could use some though -- there's currently only three in the UK and six in Germany, according to the Lego website. As for the new Legoland, I suspect they're planning on visitors in the eastern U.S. who don't want to travel to California to visit Legoland, and the new park is close to the Disney area so it will probably pick up some traffic from people visiting there.

Posted by darthdc in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2010 13:47

I agree with legoguysw, reopen the Birmingham store! Need somewhere thats not going to be a day out - as in spending all day on the road to get there.

Posted by legofanatic2414 in United States, 13 Feb 2010 15:11

Why none in Concord, California?!!! I hate having to go all the way to San Jose.

Posted by CommanderBrick in United States, 13 Feb 2010 16:09

I wish that LEGO would put a store in Iowa somewhere. I'm not going to be driving three hours north to the Mall of America to pick something out of a Pick-a-Brick wall! Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, somewhere!

Posted by alpha 40 in United States, 14 Feb 2010 21:48

I was just in NYC yesterday and I stopped by Rockefeller center and noticed the Brookestone store. That Lego store is going to be huge! I wonder how they are going to fill up that much space.

Posted by legogijoe1960s in United States, 15 Feb 2010 10:16

Well, the NYC LEGO store is INDEED going to be one HUGE flagship store! alpha 40, when you were down in NYC yesterday, did you see any type of construction going on at the Brookestone store, or any type of something that would indicate a brand new store is coming there this summer? Thanks!

Would like to see more stores in Houston. Glad to see a Galleria store as that's only about 30 minutes away (without traffic) whereas the Baybrook Store (Friendswood) is about 1 hour away across town. The Houston metro has a population of about 5.5 million...we need a Lego store in the hugely residential, affluent Northwest Harris County suburbs (pop. 1 million+). They could easily do a couple of more stores in the Houston area and make it worthwhile.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 16 Feb 2010 20:38

It's great that they're opening stores in NYC and Elmhurst Queens.
New York City sorely needed one and knowing the Elmhurst mall, they don't have a toy store at all. They used to have Kay Bee for years but they went out of business so during the holidays they have rotating 'toy shops' that someone or entitfy rents the space during November and December for the past couple years.

I think I read an article a couple years back that the Elmhurst mall is one of the few malls in America that consistantly has billion dollar profits year end and year out(?). Not sure but everytime I go there, doensn't matter what time of the year it is, it's like Xmas crowds.

Posted by alpha 40 in United States, 17 Feb 2010 14:48

legogijoe1960s: actually I had no idea it was going to be in Brookstone until after I came home. I didn't see anything with the Brookstone store that was unusual. When I found out that it was going to be there I was suprised on both how big it was going to be and that it was there as I didn't see any thing that would tell me it would be a lego store.

Posted by TBOC in United States, 18 Feb 2010 17:54

ONE IN MISSOURI!

New York and Texas just don't need anymore. WE NEED SOME.

Posted by DJ Dave in United States, 20 Feb 2010 23:08

If one is to open in Upstate NY, make it in the future "Destiny USA" Center, adjacent to the existing Carousel Center in Syracuse.

Posted by kwings00 in United States, 23 Feb 2010 06:28

Michigan! When are we going to see one in S.E. Michigan!

What I would give to be able to invest into a franchise license for one.

Posted by woartytoad in Japan, 24 Feb 2010 02:44

aaaaaaaah washington bremerton already

Posted by vynsane in United States, 24 Feb 2010 07:40

The Garden City store in the Roosevelt Field Mall (named for the airstrip that Charles Lindbergh took off on his historic flight) has their Grand Opening event on the website, including a picture of the exclusive set the first 300 customers who spend $35 will receive. It looks VERY reminiscent of The Spirit of St. Louis!

lego.com has now put the page for NYC
http://stores.lego.com/en-us/New%20York%20City/LandingPage.aspx
Nothing is on it but it is a start.
Keep an eye on the page until they update it.

Posted by vynsane in United States, 24 Feb 2010 17:28

Houston, TX also has their events page up, and the special edition set is a cowboy riding a bucking bronco, which looks pretty cool...

Posted by mars4life in United States, 24 Feb 2010 22:41

wow, so many in ny. i live in CA, u'd think we have a lot, but we have like 3. and ny is tiny compared 2 ca

Posted by vynsane in United States, 25 Feb 2010 10:54

CA may be large (just under three times the size of NY) but the population of NY is nearly twice as dense. If you want to go by land area alone Alaska or Nunavut, Canada should have more LEGO stores than both, as they comprise about 620,000 and 750,000 sq miles respectively. However, I seriously doubt that would be a sound business move.

Also, CA has six stores, including the Imagination Center at Disneyland. I'm hoping the NYC store will be an Imagination Center as well.

My concern with the amount of stores in NY is that they're all relatively centered around or in NYC. Though that only increases my options, it only stands to accentuate the dearth of options in the northern and western parts of the state.

Posted by nath8888 in United States, 25 Feb 2010 15:51

Rochester or Buffalo would be a perfect location for a lego store, because nothing really services that area (although, many items can be obtained on line.
