I keep hoping they open one up in the Kansas City area, preferably on the Missouri side so I can still avoid sales tax when I order online.

I think my closest store is in OK City and is a 5 hour drive...

That's quite an expansion plan. How many will there be in total in the US? In the UK we had 5 but two of them shut 5 years or so ago. There's no sign of expansion here, sadly.

Why not Missouri? I say there should be one in St. Louis, and one in Kansas City! The closest one for me is Chicago! That way, everyone, (except those living in the center of Missouri) would be happy! Again, Why Not Missouri? Sure, we may not be big like Chicago, New York City, or even Houston, but we love Lego too!

LEGO's a business, and they would be crazy to open a store where there's not enough of a demonstrated demand. I think that's why we should all be working in some way or other to build up the LEGO demand, especially among kids. If you're not part of a club that can put on events for kids, you could be giving out LEGO bricks for halloween, building models of buildings in your area and displaying them in public places, or doing other things to attract new LEGO customers.

wow... THREE new stores in the NY metro area? i can definitely understand the one in NYC, and the one at the roosevelt field mall, but the elmhurst location will be nearly right between them! add the original NY store in the palisade's mall (which is a like a 45-70 minute drive from manhattan, depending on traffic) and 'downstate' is MORE than covered. i understand the need to situate the stores where the money is, but surely there's a sizable mall in western and/or upstate NY (meaning buffalo/rochester/syracuse and/or albany/saratoga) that would be worthy of housing one of these stores. i think the palisades center store will suffer because of this, but maybe that will make it easier to find things i want there, as it's the closest to my house ;)

I still don't get why these states get so many stores. Good old Pennsylvania still has but one LEGO store in King of Prussia, but I find it unfair that PA gets so often overlooked. Put one here in Central PA!

After the one in Birmingham shut down, the only ones in the UK are down south. Nearest one is a 140 mile round trip. Need some in midlands and up north over here.

I saw the one in Garden City and was happy, but NYC.
Good move lego especially because here to west nyack is like 1 1/2 hours and so is NYC but I go there more often. My onlyquestion is why not one in Connecticut. 1. it is there headquarters for North America, 2. It is a highly populated state, and 3. I live there.

I am so pumped about this news and have been since I found out in October!

I am 20 minutes from the Roosevelt Field Store and I'm sure that this will become a part of my weekly shopping routine. The Queens Center Mall store that should be opening in the Fall can become a reason to stick around in Queens after work.

@scholte23: I agree. Australia needs a store badly. Especially since we have to pay an extra $45 on postage when purchasing exclusives from shop@home. That money could have been spent on more Lego if there was a store that sells exclusives somewhere in the country.

Jeez, another Lego store opening in Texas in the wrong spot. How about closing a Lego store in the DFW area or the other Houston area Lego store and open one up in Austin and or San Antonio? It seriously only takes 10 minutes to get to/from each of the DFW area Lego stores, too close!

The U.S. is probably getting a lot of new stores because of it's size: Lego has almost doubled the number of stores in the U.S. over the past 2 or 3 years, and there's still none within a reasonable driving distance of my home town. I will agree that the rest of the world could use some though -- there's currently only three in the UK and six in Germany, according to the Lego website. As for the new Legoland, I suspect they're planning on visitors in the eastern U.S. who don't want to travel to California to visit Legoland, and the new park is close to the Disney area so it will probably pick up some traffic from people visiting there.

I was just in NYC yesterday and I stopped by Rockefeller center and noticed the Brookestone store. That Lego store is going to be huge! I wonder how they are going to fill up that much space.

Would like to see more stores in Houston. Glad to see a Galleria store as that's only about 30 minutes away (without traffic) whereas the Baybrook Store (Friendswood) is about 1 hour away across town. The Houston metro has a population of about 5.5 million...we need a Lego store in the hugely residential, affluent Northwest Harris County suburbs (pop. 1 million+). They could easily do a couple of more stores in the Houston area and make it worthwhile.

It's great that they're opening stores in NYC and Elmhurst Queens.
New York City sorely needed one and knowing the Elmhurst mall, they don't have a toy store at all. They used to have Kay Bee for years but they went out of business so during the holidays they have rotating 'toy shops' that someone or entitfy rents the space during November and December for the past couple years.

I think I read an article a couple years back that the Elmhurst mall is one of the few malls in America that consistantly has billion dollar profits year end and year out(?). Not sure but everytime I go there, doensn't matter what time of the year it is, it's like Xmas crowds.

legogijoe1960s: actually I had no idea it was going to be in Brookstone until after I came home. I didn't see anything with the Brookstone store that was unusual. When I found out that it was going to be there I was suprised on both how big it was going to be and that it was there as I didn't see any thing that would tell me it would be a lego store.

The Garden City store in the Roosevelt Field Mall (named for the airstrip that Charles Lindbergh took off on his historic flight) has their Grand Opening event on the website, including a picture of the exclusive set the first 300 customers who spend $35 will receive. It looks VERY reminiscent of The Spirit of St. Louis!

CA may be large (just under three times the size of NY) but the population of NY is nearly twice as dense. If you want to go by land area alone Alaska or Nunavut, Canada should have more LEGO stores than both, as they comprise about 620,000 and 750,000 sq miles respectively. However, I seriously doubt that would be a sound business move.

Also, CA has six stores, including the Imagination Center at Disneyland. I'm hoping the NYC store will be an Imagination Center as well.

My concern with the amount of stores in NY is that they're all relatively centered around or in NYC. Though that only increases my options, it only stands to accentuate the dearth of options in the northern and western parts of the state.

Rochester or Buffalo would be a perfect location for a lego store, because nothing really services that area (although, many items can be obtained on line.
