Toy Fair season starts tomorrow

  • Toy Fair season starts tomorrow

The first of three toy fairs starts tomorrow, in London, at Kensington Olympia.

The London toy fair is very much a trade only event and is the first opportunity of the year to view the summer 2013 sets 'in the flesh'.

I am going and I will be meeting 'Big' Pete from FBTB there, and we'll be on the LEGO stand early in the afternoon. We will be telling you what we see but, unfortunately, LEGO does not permit photography at the London show, preferring to wait to unveil new sets to the public at Spielwarenmesse International Toy Fair, Nürnberg, which this year starts on 30th Jaunary, or at the New York Toy Fair on February 10th.

So, keep an eye out here and at FBTB tomorrow for our reports. If you're going tomorrow too, do get in touch, as maybe we can meet up.

Try your best to remember or note down prices etc. Huw if you can, I am very interested to see how Lego are going to price the new Sail Barge and Republic Gunship, as well as finally perhaps revealing quite what JEK-14's Stealth Starfighter is.

Does this mean we will see the new Castle sets soon? I can only hope! The few Castle themed CMF (forestman, forest maiden, evil knight, heroic knight and evil dwarf) have me looking forward to this theme. That, and an entire childhood of memories of classic castle....

Can you guys check if the orcs in the new LOTR sets have new printing?

Posted by Kez in United Kingdom, 21 Jan 2013 15:43

@Huw why don't you wear one of them secret spy pens on the outside of your jumper and then you can record footage of the new sets, (well I suppose it's only about another week until we get pictures). Sorry to be a hassle but I'd love to hear descriptions of the superheroes sets and LOTR sets. Best of luck :-)

^guavamnia - I don't think we'll see classic Castle until the LOTR/Hobbit license is over. I could entirely be wrong, but that would be a lot of medieval fantasy on the shelves with two themes at once...

In general I hope for more information on the summer LOTR sets. The rumours aren't very exciting!

I can't wait to hear about it. Please describe what each theme for summer has to offer in the greatest detail. I would like to know with sets look great and those that don't.

So at the Spielwarenmesse International Toy Fair, will say the Lone Ranger sets be revealed? And what about the new castle and LotR sets? How far in advance are sets shown?

@rnsrobot,
There is a 5 set Castle wave planned for August of this year.

This sounds awesome. I really can't wait to see what info people bring pack and hopefully some idea of what new legends of chima minifigures we'll be getting. maybe the gorillas! or some new crocodiles and those new lotr sets sound excellent. there's so much I'd love to know :D

Posted by guavamnia in United States, 21 Jan 2013 16:29

^rnsrobot - I'm referring to the leaked names of 2013 Castle sets to be released this August. The set numbers and names are already known, and they are in the brickset database here:
http://www.brickset.com/browse/themes/?theme=castle&year=2013

But yeah, they may still keep them under wraps for a few more months because of the LOTR/Hobbit licenses. Too bad, since I'm not as interested in them and prefer Castle to LOTR/Hobbit.

^The_Creator - sorry, didn't see that you already had pointed out the new sets. Thank you.

I would be very interested in any news on the Jedi Defender Class Cruiser. Have Fun!

It'd be so cool (I highly doubt you could remember?) if you could "sketch" what some sets look like. xD

Also, lots of details on Chima would be appreciated!

I'll see what I can do for your requests, but often it can be a bit overwhelming there and facts don't often sink in. I'll try and take some notes...

I'm looking forward to seeing the Creator and Technic sets!

Please provide some descriptions on the Hero Factory and Chima Ultrabuilds. Preferably the Chima Ultrabuilds (if they're there), since we know little to nothing about their appearances. Sadly, the Action Figure lines seem to get neglected.

@Huw would you please try to note what the lotr minifigs are and the lotr set prices?

Have we ever heard about sets for the first time at the Toy Fair?

Posted by CzechMate in Australia, 22 Jan 2013 00:06

There's supposedly more rules this year at toy fair, with some luck, Brickipedia may get these, as we somehow can manage to have the pics.

It's rumoured we get a new Raven in the Chi Temple :D

Posted by CzechMate in Australia, 22 Jan 2013 00:07

Oh, and could you please ask the people there what the name of the new Blue Team GS member is?

Posted by ant1234lego in United Kingdom, 22 Jan 2013 01:58

Please tell us the new ninjago if they have it?

I'm very curieus to find out what the technic 'flagship' set is for this year.

There was a piece on BBC Breakfast this morning about the fair... I was screaming at the telly "Head to the back... walk towards the Lego!!" :o)

Posted by arl100 in United Kingdom, 22 Jan 2013 07:24

^ I seen that as well, hoping they might walk past the LEGO section, but no such luck. Shame as I wanted to know if Tower of Orthanc would be out with the other LOTR sets in the Summer.

^^^ Ugh, the writing and grammar are terrible, but there is some good info:

Series 10 of the Collectable Minifigs will be gold and in the series will be golden minifigs hidden to find, expect this series to be massive.

Tons of set names given too.
