Two more brand stores for the UK

News has emerged this week that LEGO is opening two new brand stores in the UK in the next few months.

One of them will be the first to open in Scotland, and will be at Glasgow's Buchanan Galleries shopping centre in the middle of the city. You can read more about this at the STV Glasgow website (via the forum)

The second one will be in Leeds, in the Trinity Centre. LEGO has posted an ad. for the manager's job, with an anticipated start date of March. (thanks robyaw)

It's great to see that there is some good news on the high street, following the collapse of so many well known chains. Let's hope the expansion continues as far as Southampton before too long...

Meanwhile, the grand opening event at the last store to open, in Watford, is said to be 21 - 23 February. No news on freebies but they are bound to be the same as every other one: T Shirts, brand store models, and minifigs. (thanks FinnTheHuman in the forum)

I find it incredible that from 3 stores 3 years ago we are suddenly into double figures now!

Where is the love for the midlands? A Birmingham store would be great (again) but could live with one at merry hill. Oh well, suppose I will keep on having to make the Sheffield trek for now :-(

It is nice to have the opportunity to have all these brand stores tho :-)

Exeter or Plymouth would be great, catering for people here in the South West. Hopefully soon.

Posted by james_shaw in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 07:20

East Midlands - preferably Leicester!

Posted by darthdc in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 07:35

I'm with jjb5000 on this. Fed up with Milton Keynes being the nearest one to us. Please open another store in Birmingham, or at least somewhere in the West Midlands!

Nice to see stores are getting further up the country. Surprised Newcastle don't have one yet but I suspect it won't be long.

Posted by simonskluk in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 08:10

Very good news, a store in the north! Scotlands first store that's great ;-)

Posted by The Baron in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 08:49

SCOTLAND! I don't believe it. Good news indeed.

Posted by Lordmoral in Puerto Rico, 26 Jan 2013 08:54

Please, open one in Puerto Rico.

Posted by Flowerpotgirl in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 08:54

Yay Scotland, at last. More stores in the north please. Newcastle preferred.

It would be AMAZING if it came to Southampton, that is where I live too. Currently the one in Brighton is the closest one to me. Let's hope that Portsmouth doesn't get the next LEGO store!

Posted by DougTemplar in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 09:36

Really Chuffed we now have a store in Scotland.

However I'd only really need to pop through from Edinburgh for the Pick a Brick Wall. I'm sure I read somewhere had a PAB Wall listing kept up to date by locals so AFOLs knew when to visit the store to get the bricks they need - was that a dream or does it exist?

Should Edinburgh get a Brand Store in the City Centre I'd be willing to keep a listing of PAB Wall bricks up to date once a week.

This is fantastic news! I'm glad to see a store finally open in Glasgow, Scotland, and it's even conveniently located a mere few blocks away from the university I'll be attending next year.

Maybe there are other sites for listings of the PaB-Walls but this is the one I use:

Congrats to ya guys! But in all seriousness the Midwest could use another LEGO store, specifically the northern Midwest …

Posted by LegoCam567 in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 10:30

uh... why is the no lego stores in the north east. leeds is 1 and a quarter hours drive from here, and shefield ( the next closest) is about 1 and 3 quarter hours drive away. why lego, WHY!?!?!?! one in Newcastle would be good......

Posted by TheLens19 in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 10:58

Why can't there be one down south, I know there's Brighton, but that's still an hour away! Why not Chichester or even Worthing, with the amount of shops closing around here!!

Posted by vidtracey in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 11:03

One opening in glasgow!!!! That's amazing news as its a 10min train journey from me. Can anyone tell me what to expect or what unique features these stores have?

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 11:41

LEEDS LEEDS LEEDS. That is all.

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 12:00

Hurrah! One in Scotland, about time. Plus its in Glasgow which is great, because I can get there pretty easily.

Well that's me satisfied. Look forward to the opening!

Posted by arl100 in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 12:35

PLEASE make Exeter next on the list - it's a 4 (yes, FOUR) hour drive to the nearest one in Cardiff!!!

Posted by Captain Eyebrow in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 14:09

One Wag - Sorry but Whitley is highly unlikely as the current strategy appears to be focusing on regional shopping destinations and shopping centres at that but not retail parks.

Y - Portsmouth does not have enough of retail presence to pull LEGO until Northern Quarter is built, remember than Gunwharf is an outlet so it's really an option.

Huw - Southampton one day soon I hope.

Posted by Andrew85 in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 14:16

Id like one in the north east. The metro centre is one of the biggest shopping centres in Europe by area. Then again we are one of the poorest areas and lego definitely isn't a cheap toy. Perhaps in a few years!

Why no love for the upcoming Lego Store in St. Louis Missouri U.S.A. The Lego Store will be in West County Mall just right on Interstate I-270 in St. Louis Missouri U.S.A. just to let you all Lego Fanatics know ok :).

Posted by chr15rey in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 15:55

Put one back in Birmingham, PPPPPPLLLLLLEEEEAAAASSSSSEEEE!!!!!

Posted by scottwb2010 in United Kingdom, 26 Jan 2013 19:26

Yes at long last a store in Scotland! Now we can benifit from the PAB wall.

Posted by lucienc in United Kingdom, 27 Jan 2013 06:24

Another shout for an EXETER store please. The south west lacks any stores as has been said above.

Posted by Snickers3112 in United Kingdom, 27 Jan 2013 07:47

~Huw - my misses is a manager at a shop in West Quay and attends their trade meeting things. Apparantly there are 2 companies that want in on West Quay who do not have any nearby presence.

No idea who these companies are but, seeing as Brighton is the nearest lego shop then there is a possibility!

Posted by rawbob in United Kingdom, 27 Jan 2013 08:15

i'm pleased there will be a store in Glasgow. About time!

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 27 Jan 2013 09:10

^^ I have no insider knowledge, but as captain eyebrow above says, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they open one in Southampton, given the rate of expansion, the fact there isn't one nearby and that West Quay is the main shopping destination in this part of the country.

Posted by Venunder in United Kingdom, 27 Jan 2013 16:54

Nottingham please. :)

To cover the central Midlands and East of England. :)

How many Legos stores are there in England now?

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 28 Jan 2013 05:24

I do hope they open one in Oxford, sometime soon...

Posted by Nesquik in United Kingdom, 28 Jan 2013 05:33

Lol, Watford...

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 28 Jan 2013 06:11

^^ After these two open, 12 I believe.

Posted by Zander in United Kingdom, 28 Jan 2013 09:48

Don't get me wrong: I love going to the nearest store to me (Shepherd's Bush Westfield). But I wonder if opening bricks 'n' mortar stores is a sustainable business model for TLG. How can these stores thrive when Amazon.co.uk sells many of the same sets at significant discounts? Are Lego stores not in danger of going the same way as HMV?

Posted by legoguysw in United Kingdom, 28 Jan 2013 11:36

I know I say this every time, but, why isn't there one in Birmingham? I know there used to be one and it closed down due to poor sales, but that was like 2004 and LEGO has had a resurgence since then, shown by the success of all these other stores in the UK.

Posted by purple toadstool in United Kingdom, 28 Jan 2013 12:56

Finally a Scottish store superb. Cannot wait to see what the opening model will be.

Posted by Captain Eyebrow in United Kingdom, 28 Jan 2013 14:46

Zander - LEGO Brand stores exist in the same bubble as Apple Stores, people will travel a good distance to visit one and they have products that can't be purchased any where else.

Whilst a day may come when Apple and LEGO over expand and the Brand Stores become unviable we are not there yet.

Posted by shadow ninja in United Kingdom, 29 Jan 2013 14:04

one in scotland!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its near me only a 25min drive

Posted by CianD in Ireland, 02 Feb 2013 17:43

Belfast would be handy - seeing as Dublin is unlikely with the hassle of setting up in a new country for what's likely to be one store only. Hence the Apple store in Belfast also.

The Birmingham store closed down a lot more recently than 2004, legoguysw. More like 2010. Can only assume boomtime rents didn't help.

Any talk of getting a Brand store in Australia in the near future?
