    News has emerged this week that LEGO is opening two new brand stores in the UK in the next few months.

    One of them will be the first to open in Scotland, and will be at Glasgow's Buchanan Galleries shopping centre in the middle of the city. You can read more about this at the STV Glasgow website (via the forum)

    The second one will be in Leeds, in the Trinity Centre. LEGO has posted an ad. for the manager's job, with an anticipated start date of March. (thanks robyaw)

    It's great to see that there is some good news on the high street, following the collapse of so many well known chains. Let's hope the expansion continues as far as Southampton before too long...

    Meanwhile, the grand opening event at the last store to open, in Watford, is said to be 21 - 23 February. No news on freebies but they are bound to be the same as every other one: T Shirts, brand store models, and minifigs. (thanks FinnTheHuman in the forum)

Where is the love for the midlands? A Birmingham store would be great (again) but could live with one at merry hill. Oh well, suppose I will keep on having to make the Sheffield trek for now :-(

It is nice to have the opportunity to have all these brand stores tho :-)

I'm with jjb5000 on this. Fed up with Milton Keynes being the nearest one to us. Please open another store in Birmingham, or at least somewhere in the West Midlands!

It would be AMAZING if it came to Southampton, that is where I live too. Currently the one in Brighton is the closest one to me. Let's hope that Portsmouth doesn't get the next LEGO store!

Really Chuffed we now have a store in Scotland.

However I'd only really need to pop through from Edinburgh for the Pick a Brick Wall. I'm sure I read somewhere had a PAB Wall listing kept up to date by locals so AFOLs knew when to visit the store to get the bricks they need - was that a dream or does it exist?

Should Edinburgh get a Brand Store in the City Centre I'd be willing to keep a listing of PAB Wall bricks up to date once a week.

This is fantastic news! I'm glad to see a store finally open in Glasgow, Scotland, and it's even conveniently located a mere few blocks away from the university I'll be attending next year.

uh... why is the no lego stores in the north east. leeds is 1 and a quarter hours drive from here, and shefield ( the next closest) is about 1 and 3 quarter hours drive away. why lego, WHY!?!?!?! one in Newcastle would be good......

Why can't there be one down south, I know there's Brighton, but that's still an hour away! Why not Chichester or even Worthing, with the amount of shops closing around here!!

One Wag - Sorry but Whitley is highly unlikely as the current strategy appears to be focusing on regional shopping destinations and shopping centres at that but not retail parks.

Y - Portsmouth does not have enough of retail presence to pull LEGO until Northern Quarter is built, remember than Gunwharf is an outlet so it's really an option.

Id like one in the north east. The metro centre is one of the biggest shopping centres in Europe by area. Then again we are one of the poorest areas and lego definitely isn't a cheap toy. Perhaps in a few years!

~Huw - my misses is a manager at a shop in West Quay and attends their trade meeting things. Apparantly there are 2 companies that want in on West Quay who do not have any nearby presence.

No idea who these companies are but, seeing as Brighton is the nearest lego shop then there is a possibility!

^^ I have no insider knowledge, but as captain eyebrow above says, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they open one in Southampton, given the rate of expansion, the fact there isn't one nearby and that West Quay is the main shopping destination in this part of the country.

Don't get me wrong: I love going to the nearest store to me (Shepherd's Bush Westfield). But I wonder if opening bricks 'n' mortar stores is a sustainable business model for TLG. How can these stores thrive when Amazon.co.uk sells many of the same sets at significant discounts? Are Lego stores not in danger of going the same way as HMV?

I know I say this every time, but, why isn't there one in Birmingham? I know there used to be one and it closed down due to poor sales, but that was like 2004 and LEGO has had a resurgence since then, shown by the success of all these other stores in the UK.

Zander - LEGO Brand stores exist in the same bubble as Apple Stores, people will travel a good distance to visit one and they have products that can't be purchased any where else.

Whilst a day may come when Apple and LEGO over expand and the Brand Stores become unviable we are not there yet.

Belfast would be handy - seeing as Dublin is unlikely with the hassle of setting up in a new country for what's likely to be one store only. Hence the Apple store in Belfast also.

The Birmingham store closed down a lot more recently than 2004, legoguysw. More like 2010. Can only assume boomtime rents didn't help.
