Thanks for that!

Yepp! Got em!!

Posted by Morgan19 in United States, 14 Mar 2010 13:54

Was anyone actually able to buy one separately? When I tried to add one by itself to my cart, I was told it was "limited quantities" and wouldn't let me actually add it.

Posted by roar15 in United States, 14 Mar 2010 14:56

Morgan19; I was able to put 4 in my cart at $2.99 each and check out online with no problems. I didn't buy anything else. Even got 2 order confirmation emails. I'll keep you posted on if I get an "order shipped" email.

Just got back from Toys R Us and got my Free Chrome Storm Trooper; you have to buy a Star Wars set, though. apparently they only had a limited amount, too. and I asked to buy one separately at the store and got denied.
Go get em while ya can!

Does any one know if there is an end date to this promotion? I know that its most likely while supplies last, but just wondering. I hope it they last until later this week. Thanks for the info.

Ends this Saturday, March 20th.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 14 Mar 2010 16:04

@refriedbeans, not that I am aware of

Posted by doodlebird in United States, 14 Mar 2010 17:01

In store Austin, tx, I was able to buy them separately. they had them behind the counter, but I showed the checkout dude the webpage on my phone, so he checked for a bar code. they rang up at 2.99 each. I did buy one battle pack, but 5 chromies.

Posted by bader in United States, 14 Mar 2010 17:18

TRU has them and they are being strict about 1 per customer! Nice little set though!

Posted by alpha 40 in United States, 14 Mar 2010 17:51

Yesterday, there was a storm, a lot of rain and a tree knocked down in the yard.
When we got the paper it was under water in a puddle so, we had to get a new one that did not come until 3:00 and when we looked at the coupons section that TRU ad was there. I rushed over there and bought one snowtrooper battlepack. The kid in line in front of me was getting one, but his mom moved to the next line over. There was only one left! I got that stormtrooper by seconds!

Posted by bmwlego in United States, 14 Mar 2010 18:47

bader-hope you can make it to garden city this Saturday! Glad to see you here on Brickset!
Picked up 4 Chrome Troopers but they cost me $63 plus tax (3 battle packs and Droid tri Fighter sets). My Chrome Vaders now have Chrome company!

Posted by sweener in United States, 14 Mar 2010 19:11

Just got back from TRU here in Columbus, OH off of Sawmill and they had quite a few left. Unfortunately I could only get one if I bought a battle pack. They did let me make multiple purchases though.

Posted by virtuoso_pianist in United States, 14 Mar 2010 19:19

I got the last one as well in St. Clairesville, OH! That's what the lady told me, though. I was trying to get two by buying two battle packs, but she said there was a one per person policy, followed by they only one left. Oh well, not a big SW fan anyway. I just like freebies. :P

Posted by Flex in United States, 14 Mar 2010 19:22

I guess it just depends on what TRU you go to.

Posted by Drew1200 in United States, 14 Mar 2010 19:31

True! 3 dollar value!!

Posted by knuclear200x in United States, 14 Mar 2010 21:44

It kinda stinks when you have a TRU AND a Lego store in the same neighborhood. TRU has the weekly deals, while LEGO has the double/VIP points.

It's like, i can never tell if buying from one store or another is a great idea.

Posted by lego star wars dude in United States, 14 Mar 2010 21:55

Are they doing it in california too?

Posted by i like guitars in United States, 14 Mar 2010 22:40

@LEGO STAR WARS DUDE

yes they are, i live in the orange county and the one in Fullerton CA had quite a few left.

i bought the clone walker battle pack since i didnt have any clone troopers.

Posted by refriedbeans in United States, 14 Mar 2010 23:17

Omg the new star wars magnet sets are sold out
They have only been out a week!!
Hope they restock them

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 15 Mar 2010 01:12

I was able to get 4 of them but had to get 4 battlepacks via 4 separate purchases. Of course they charge an extra $1 for each battlepack, but I think it was worth it. I always intended to stock up on snowies anyway. :o)

It's interesting that the chrome troopers rang up as being worth $2.99 each yet were $9.99 at the Lego Stores these past several weeks.

Posted by lego star wars dude in United States, 15 Mar 2010 01:36

i barely checked if they had some at toys r us and guess what SOLD OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Posted by iabstract in United States, 15 Mar 2010 11:41

Ugh. Shame it's Toys R Us. Their stuff is always priced higher than retail, so really you're paying for this one way or the other.

Posted by legoguysw in United Kingdom, 15 Mar 2010 12:15

Hope something like this happens in the UK. I almost got a Chrome Vader last year by buying 3 battlepacks, but it was like £29.97 all together, just 3p short of £30, which was how much you needed to pay to get it. I even offered to pay the extra 3p, but they didn't allow it. Grr...

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 15 Mar 2010 12:23

As long as the markup is reasonable, I'm ok with the new TRU pricing plan. We have to support our toy stores or they're going to keep going away and that only hurts us consumers. An extra $1 for a battlepack or $5 on Endor or Pirate Ship is fine by me as they often run great promotions and also sell sets long after Target and Walmart or even Lego stores have moved on. That being said, I was the first to gripe when they tried $6.99 for impulse sets! :o)

Posted by StarWarsManiac in United States, 15 Mar 2010 12:41

OK guys, to summarise:

There is a promotion going on at Toys R Us where if you spend $11.99 on Star Wars Legos they will give you a free chrome stormtrooper. The stormtroopers themselves sell for $2.99. Some stores only limit it to one per customer and some will not let people buy them alone.

Plus: I agree that Toys R Us does have high prices, but hey at least Lego isn't shutting down (yet). Plus I suggest going to Target or Wal*Mart to find a cheaper selection of Legos, although Toys R Us does have a wider selection I say "First go to Target and/or Wal*Mart, if the set your looking for isn't at any of those stores go to Toys R Us (unless you have a Lego store in your area).

Posted by r2d2qa in United States, 15 Mar 2010 12:59

I already have one from buying it with a magnet but this seems a better price.

Posted by iabstract in United States, 15 Mar 2010 13:50

Given how much the sets cost to begin with, I don't really consider any additional markup reasonable. The markup is at least $5 on sets with an MSRP of around $60 or less, and over that the markup is at least $10. I, for one, would not care if TRU disappeared; the ones here are dirty and generally horrible. I have never purchased a Lego product from TRU and I haven't any plans in the near future. Lego does have an online shop that I'm more than happy to go through for exclusives or whatever else Target does not carry (I don't shop at Wal-Mart either, but for entirely different reasons :).

Posted by monkey man in Canada, 15 Mar 2010 14:15

Are they available in canada ?

Posted by I like Lego in Canada, 15 Mar 2010 14:35

I hope they are. I'm going to Toys"R"us on Wednesday.

Posted by Captain Blockbeard in United States, 15 Mar 2010 15:47

My local Toys r Us in Pennsylvania hasn't had a Lego delivery in weeks. Not only are the Star Wars Lego shelves empty, but so are the shelves for other themes. I went early in this special/sale, hoping to find restocked shelves but no luck. They had the signs on the shelves for the free Chrome Stormtrooper, yet I know they never got any in nor did they have any decent Star Wars sets (aside from the most expensive ones) to use with this deal. It's a pity since I wanted to buy a Snowtrooper pack and get the extra figure, which would have more than made up for the slight markup in price.

Posted by StarWarsManiac in United States, 15 Mar 2010 16:37

Captain Blockbeard, have you asked someone behind a check-out counter if they are keeping them behind counter for some reason, or have you asked an employee about their condition with Lego sets?

Hope this helps,
StarWarsManiac

Posted by KJM72 in United States, 15 Mar 2010 17:35

I just went to my TRU and picked up the Freeco Speeder. I called ahead to be sure they had the Chrome Stormtroopers, and the employee put one of them aside for me. I asked if they would let me purchase another one for the $3 they had it listed for online, but she said I couldn't due to there being very few left.

So, long story short: they can sell the minifigs by themselves, but it's really a matter of the employee you get, the quantity of minifigs they have left, etc. I'm just leaving mine in the unopened state and maybe I'll sell it someday. :|

Posted by lego star wars dude in United States, 15 Mar 2010 19:16

I think that $3 is all right for a rare minifig

Posted by lego star wars dude in United States, 15 Mar 2010 19:20

Does anyone know when the promotion willend?????

Posted by KJM72 in United States, 15 Mar 2010 19:46

lego star wars dude:

It ends this Saturday, March 20th. By then, the supply of minifigs might be exhausted. I strongly suggest you get there sooner.

Posted by jjfan in United States, 15 Mar 2010 20:07

Just got back from Toys-R-Us. The one I went to was really nice about this promotion. I bought the Echo Base set at $24.99, got the free one and they let me purchase 4 additional Chrome Stormtroopers. I'm going to keep one but have 4 extras to trade. I guess it really does just depend on which one you go to.

Posted by alpha 40 in United States, 15 Mar 2010 21:09

I would have bought multiples had my store had more. I got the last on at 4:00 sunday!

Posted by chris_7086 in United States, 15 Mar 2010 21:39

I asked the clerk if i could buy one separately and i got one for free! Probably cause I'm a kid :)

Posted by graymattr in United States, 15 Mar 2010 23:41

I went at noon today during my lunch break and they were already sold out. >:( How could they sell out in 14 hours of business?

Posted by legofanatic2414 in United States, 16 Mar 2010 01:54

Looks fairly interesting. But I'd love to get one but I'm saving for much more important things (Slave 1, Shuttle, SMG 2 :)). But for you guys who got them, lucky you! You will be rich in afew years if you decide to sell them. I already have a chrome Darth Vader and I like him.

Posted by Tommyo3000 in United States, 16 Mar 2010 09:58

It looks pretty nice!

Posted by mrloony in United States, 16 Mar 2010 10:41

Day after it started, went to go get one. No surprise they didn't have any. If they're holding a week long sale they should atleast stock up on them... I'm really mad at ToysRus...

Posted by Renegade007cjh in United Kingdom, 16 Mar 2010 10:45

Spare a moment for those of us on the other side of the pond - no TRU Chrome Stormies in baggies for the UK! Sigh... guess I'll have to stick with the magnetic ones instead and the chrome Vader I got last year.

Posted by iabstract in United States, 16 Mar 2010 12:41

I might have to try my local TRU and see if I can get the minifig by itself, I guess, as much as I hate to patronize TRU. Like lego star wars dude said, $3 isn't too bad for a rare minifig.

Posted by lego star wars dude in United States, 16 Mar 2010 19:32

You guys shoul call nearby toys r us to see if they have them so that you dont have to waste your time.I called my local toys r us yesterday and they had none left, but im going to keep calling the whole week, because the lady I talk to said that they might not get more of them.

Posted by 1265 in United States, 16 Mar 2010 19:47

I ordered 60 of them for $2.99 each from toysrus early Sunday morning. Not long after my order, they were listed "Out of Stock." My order was shipped yesterday. The toyrus store near me didn't have any on Sunday but they called me on Monday and let me know they received 20 sets. So, both me and my wife each got one. Now I need to get me a chrome Vader.

Posted by obiwanfan in United States, 17 Mar 2010 07:20

I got the last one at the toys r us in my town! It was funny because the guy before me was returning a mega bloks set because two people were missing arms and legs and a dragon had four right feet and no left feet. Anyway the minifig was really cool and I'm sorry for all of you who didn't get one.

Posted by smilyremhof in United States, 17 Mar 2010 10:24

Is there any word on if there will be more of these made? My Toys r us was out when I called yesterday. My boys really wanted these, I hope they make more.

Posted by voypro in United States, 17 Mar 2010 10:54

I have 19 so far. I have only bought battle packs (which they are out of now.) My job has me traveling between two cities, so I have access to 3 TRU stores. Some of the battle packs I have picked up are last years, which have been raised in price to $13.99 (what a jip!) which is sort of a reverse clearance …Old stock that did not sell Last year? Lets raise the price!

Posted by lego star wars dude in United States, 17 Mar 2010 18:19

For all of us who still don't have one, i would recomend to keep calling your local toys r us, because i called yesterday (second time this week) and the lady that I talk to said that they will be getting more today, so I will call later to see if they got them or not.

Posted by alpha 40 in United States, 17 Mar 2010 18:29

I called my TRU and the guy said they are not supposed to get any more and it was a one time thing. :(
Next time I guess I will have to act sooner.

Posted by Unknown User2596 in United States, 17 Mar 2010 19:00

It turns out the Bay Are TRUs didn't even get the shipments of the minifigs and instead gave away Santa keychains......

>:(

Posted by DrLaw in United States, 18 Mar 2010 00:30

I happened to pick one up in the store (the last one) before I knew there was a promo, but they do seem to have them! This was in the Los Angeles area btw.

Posted by StarWarsManiac in United States, 18 Mar 2010 16:38

I just checked my local TRU and they were OUT!

Posted by Legodt in United States, 19 Mar 2010 15:33

I was able to purchase 6 today at TRU in Chicago. I didn't have to purchase anything else. I told the lady at the front that the promotion appeared to be over, since there were no signs up in the LEGO Star Wars section. The store was under construction and everything was moved around... maybe that's why I got away with it.

Posted by Captain Blockbeard in United States, 19 Mar 2010 16:44

Well, my local Toys r Us finally got fresh shipments in general, and fortunately, among them was a Lego shipment. Sadly, while the previously-barren Star Wars shelves were now fully stocked, my Toys r Us still did not receive any shipments of the Chrome Storm Trooper. I did ask at the counter. At least I got the Snowtrooper pack, but I still wish I could have gotten that free Storm Trooper.

Posted by roar15 in United States, 19 Mar 2010 21:37

Huw,

I didn't notice a set# on my crome trooper bag, but is there going to be (or is there and I missed it) a way for us to add these to our set list?

Thanks

Posted by LegoPops in United States, 20 Mar 2010 08:13

I puchased several battle packs over the last few days and managed to get a few troopers each time. I then promptly returned them all for a full refund at another TRU and kept the storm troopers. It was like getting them for free. No questions asked! Don't you just love the return policy.

Posted by Brickmatic in United States, 20 Mar 2010 13:51

I checked a 2 TRUs Thursday and they were both out. It happened that a Lego employee was there checking Lego stock. Apparently, one of the Philly area stores just got their shipment that day, but she didn't know which one. I've checked other stores since with no success, so I guess I'm out of luck on this promo.

Posted by blazetrooper501 in United States, 20 Mar 2010 15:08

I did the same thing I got a bunch of battle packs got a few chrome storm troopers and returned them.

Posted by alpha 40 in United States, 20 Mar 2010 16:24

roar15: I asked Huw to add this to the database and he did.

It is on the back. 2 #'s above the barcode.

That made me mad >:(
