    Today I've uploaded new images of sets released in 1971. LEGO stepped up a gear compared to 1970 and released 63 sets. However, the market was fragmented further this year: not only were Samsonite sets being made and sold only in North America, but LEGO started marketing Minitalia sets in Italy (for reasons already discussed). The year also saw the first Homemaker sets: 'dolls house' style sets but without any figures to go in them. We had to wait until 1974 for the LEGO family to appear!

    I'd like to thank bluemoose for taking and post-processing the images which have come out really clean and clear. He's also improved the 1970 images I posted on Wednesday. Also, thanks to Bruno who has helped fill the gaps for 1970 from his own picture collection.

@Alemas, you've got the idea...

@KLOKRIECHER, it's not a priority to add sets earlier than 1966 or so: it's such a complex subject which is better covered elsewhere. We have photos of sets back to 1966 which will be added over the coming months. After that, who knows, maybe we'll go back further, but don't hold your breath.

@Huw: Well, are you ACTUALLY GOING to get the pictures of sets from 1973 to 1977? It was a sort of joke!

Alemas - we already have many of the missing set images for those years, it just takes a little time to process them before publishing them here. We've all got 'real' jobs, and other commitments, so it takes a while. I think both Huw & I would be happy if Brickset could be our full-time jobs!

Man, these sets are just awful. But wow at the iron crank, and that blue girder set. Do they still make these from time to time?

@knuclear: Well, they may be awful today, but at the time they were just fine! :) But c'mon, they aren't THAT bad; give a break to the designers of the times who didn't have the specialised parts of today!

I remember racing this set http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=375-3 up and down the hallways of a hotel when I got it in 1974 (back then sets had a longer 'shelf life'), great to see these pictures, they bring back wonderful memories.
And yes, these sets do not compare to todays' sets, but most other products from the 70's wouldn't compare with products from today either (my son loves his nerf gun - I would have died for something like that 30 years ago).

Huw and Bluemoose (plus whoever else behind the scenes), thanks so much for your dedicated work.

In five years (just to give you guys some time, maybe LEGO will start paying you and then brickset could become your full-time jobs) this site will be the non-plus-ultra for LEGO fans, with any and all available informations that one could want. (I do consider it one of the best today - but it just keeps getting better and better with more detailed information).

i've always been interested in the first lego sets, even though they are a bit dull. but hey they're pretty good toys for back then. by the way huw, did they have some sort of figures back then, cuz that yellow stand thing looks like i'd come with some sort'o early micro fig. its not quite mini fig size (well they didn't have mini figs back then) but are a little too big for a micro fig (hey that rymed! :D)

Most of the still picture-less sets on BrickSet that I own are 80s Duplo sets I got as a baby. Will you get pics of those Huw/bluemoose?

@itsaturkey: the first figures came out in 1974 (see link above) so we haven't reached that stage yet.

@Frasse, probably not, sorry. When we had the opportunity to take these photos we didn't venture into the '80s much because they are already well covered.

@r2d2qa, doubtful.
