Series 10 minifigs revealed by Argos

  • Series 10 minifigs revealed by Argos

Posted by Huw, 27 Feb 2013 07:26. Filed under New sets.

Argos has listed series 10 minifigs and has provided this image showing them all, including the 'golden' chase figure.

Thanks to Teamladd who posted in the forum earlier. There is a  higher-res image available at Argos, but unfortunately it's viewable only through their Flash zoomer. I haven't been able to locate the URL of the image: maybe you can...

Update: Murphquake has cracked it, and the hi-res image is now on flickr.

There's no word on release date, but they'll be priced at £1.99 again.

Two American historical Minifigs at once? And another Roman? =O

The only ones of these that I collect are the people in animal costumes. I find them so silly.

...best series ever? :P

Modular phone shop MOCs on their way I'm sure!

The librarian is holding a book called "Oranges and Peaches". I googled for the reference:

"There's a common story told in introductory reference classes. A patron comes to the reference desk and asks for a book called "Oranges and Peaches." The librarian has never heard of the book before, but does a quick search in the catalog. Nothing. A quick search on Amazon offers some possibilities, but, no. Nothing. Rather than send the patron away, the librarian probes the patron for more information about the book.

L: Can you tell me what the book is about?
P: No idea.
L: Hmmm. How did you hear about it?
P: My professor assigned it. I have to read it for class.
L: Which class are you taking?
P: Biology.

L: Could it be Darwin's Origin of Species?"

Great find, nonex!
And another great series! They are all very good looking and I love their expressions. Can't wait to get them!

Awesome set, even thow i'm afraid that golden minifig is going to eat up alot of my money. lol =]
BTW are these going to be 30 in a case like romered?

This URL works for me:
http://argos.scene7.com/is/image/Argos/9110520_R_Z001A_UC1393676?$TMB$&wid=3120&hei=3120

They all look pretty good, my favourites are the minifigs with the animals (seagull and chihuahua), the Medusa and the Bee/Honey costume. The least exciting is the parachuter guy.

Love the bald hair piece of the old geezer on the left

Posted by shaase in Canada, 27 Feb 2013 08:00

Gotta love the modern print of the IPhone on the tile. Not sure how much longer Lego will go with this but I like the mythical creatures that have been coming out

so if i can find a top hat (i can... easily) i can get a golden minifig if im lucky enough to find a box that happens to have one. great.

Grogall has posted a hi-res image on eurobricks. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/grogall/Minifigures/71001/c_71001_detail_1.jpg

Not the strongest overall series in my opinion, but some great individual figs and parts. That Popstar looking fig has got to be one of the most hideous yet! But I'm sure someone will want an army of them.

I thought release was April?

Posted by icey in Denmark, 27 Feb 2013 08:22

The golden figure is the least attractive of them all! I really hope I don't get it! .... otherwise there's quite a lot of desirable figs here!

Posted by legorex2 in Canada, 27 Feb 2013 08:30

Why is there 17 minifiguers instead of 16 ? Is the golden one some sort of ultra rare ?

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 27 Feb 2013 08:34

^ Yes, limited to 50,000 worldwide or something like that.

Posted by IAmWillGibson in United States, 27 Feb 2013 08:42

So the Golden figure does have a unique, feelable element.

Good luck never finding that one in nature! Chase figures are literally the worst idea LEGO's ever had.

Posted by chilis in Norway, 27 Feb 2013 08:52

Great minifigs! Maybe the best so far! :)

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 27 Feb 2013 09:05

Pretty nice series. A few clunkers, but there's always a couple in each one, more or less.

Posted by Andrew85 in United Kingdom, 27 Feb 2013 09:23

I like the sea captain and maybe the old man but the rest are meh ! As for the lady on the phone with the dog its so hideous i kind of like it!

Posted by legomaniac in United States, 27 Feb 2013 09:24

Whats the warrior woman? As in time of history?

Thats some pretty good figures. I thought the bee woman was holding the gun at first :P

Posted by OuterRimTradingCo. in Australia, 27 Feb 2013 09:25

Another great collection, and another addition to "guy in a suit" range (in this case, "woman in bee costume :) Love all the attentions to detail, and I spy some ink on the arm of the "biker mechanic"! Nice touch!

I keep telling myself that I'm going to stop. "It's getting to be too much!" I tell myself.
And then pictures like this come out.

I look forward to the endless hours and sideways glances while feeling for pieces.
Thank goodness Wal-Mart has their summer patio furniture out already! Such a nice place to search.

Posted by Brickarmor in United States, 27 Feb 2013 09:38

Wow, they all look great! Sad Clown and Old Man might be my favorites.

Posted by Aanchir in United States, 27 Feb 2013 10:22

@legomaniac: I think she's a fantasy figure, not a historical one, so she won't be compatible with any real-world period clothes. But think Sword and Sandal: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SwordAndSandal I imagine Xena: Warrior Princess is a particular inspiration for this one.

Anyway, this is a great assortment, and shows that TLG isn't anywhere close to running out of ideas.

Posted by train_nut in United Arab Emirates, 27 Feb 2013 10:38

Army builder set! I only have 74 romans from the previous series.

Posted by lovaquero in United States, 27 Feb 2013 10:42

[edit: it appears that it is actually 5k gold minifigs, at least that is what the almighty goole reports]

50K gold minifigs? I hate to break it to TLG, but that does not make it very rare, no matter how many CMF's they make. Even 10K is pushing it (e.g. Chrome Gold C-3PO). The SDCC/NYCC/Celebration 'exclusives' are closer to 'rare'. I love marketing hype ;-)
...
I haven't been following the CMF's at all (since I avoid them like the plague) - what is the story behind the golf MF? Is it supposed to be a homage of some sort to Monopoly?

Posted by LegoAthos in United States, 27 Feb 2013 10:53

The skydiver looks like he's really into honey...

Steve

Posted by lovaquero in United States, 27 Feb 2013 10:57

Perhaps I am too much of an 'old man', but this golden minifig business reeks of nothing but pure-marketing ploy. The only thing missing is the announcement that also included with the MF is a special golden ticket that enables the holder (+ one family member ONLY) a special factory tour in Billund, along with a lifetime supply of LEGO to the 'winner'...

It bothers me that TLG is succoming to the Willy Wonka marketing mindset. It is already bad enough with the release of 3+ series CMFs each year.

It is just downright sad and embarressing to go into Walmart/TRU/Target and see many grown adults sitting/standing in the aisle intently handling the CMF bags, as if their life depended on it. In the meantime no one else can get through the aisle, and real KIDS are unable to do what kids do in a toy store - have fun finding and playing with a toy.

You can count me as one of TLG's most dedicated fans & customers, but this CMF stuff is just extrememly disappointing. Although I am sure it makes TLG a mint.

I really like the roman, sad clown, female warrior and grandad mini figures. Clearly the golden figure is going to make buying mini figures even more challenging.

Posted by brixton in Canada, 27 Feb 2013 11:18

Why does LEGO keep coming out with amazing sets (rhetorical question - we all know why). I want to buy all of these.

Posted by that guy from that show in United States, 27 Feb 2013 11:43

Wow this looks like a great series. I don't usually say this but I think I want them all.

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 27 Feb 2013 11:45

I thought the golden minifigure was supposed to be one of those street performers who dress up as statues at first... i guess he could be used as one...

Posted by defiant.nx74205 in United States, 27 Feb 2013 11:45

Not sure if this is a forum question or not, but what are your thoughts on the recently-imposed limitation (in stores, at least-which never had this limitation based on my experience) of limiting the purchase to 16 per customer per day?

I used to go to the store, buy 2-3 boxes, find sets of 16, and return the rest.
Any advice on how I could still do that? (buy 2,3,4 boxes at a time)?

Thanks.

Posted by Odeinoichus in Canada, 27 Feb 2013 11:47

Another outstanding Series. Since this is the 10th one perhaps the Golden Figure is meant as some sort of anniversary edition or something to celebrate ten series of CMF... Then again with the unique Olympic Set that is a pain to get these days this is technically the 11th set.

All of them look quite nice, I notice however that the Golden Mini-Figure has white gloves, doesn't that mean he's not all gold then, I was under the impression that they would be all gold.

I certainly hope Series 11 will include a Basketball Player, we've covered most of the big name sports, but we still haven't gotten one of those. It'd be kind of nice to see a Curler with a Push Broom and Curling Stone and a Lacrosse Player too. So many minor sports, what about Cyclist or Mountain Biker? Hmmm, but how to include a bike?

Minotaur, Cyclops now Gorgon, all we need now is a Harpy and a Gargoyle and we'd have some really fun looking armies of mythological creatures. Maybe even an Anubis Warrior from The Mummy movies or a Centaur, though that one might be a bit much to hope for. Of course a Centaur could get more than one use out of the lower body, once for a male Centaur and again for a Female Centaur and possibly include a new one-off Theme to take some of the cost out of it set in a Fantasy setting.

I digress however, looks like most of these will have a unique piece to feel for and find, the only ones that might proove tricky to feel out appear to be the Skydiver and the Painter depending on if that's a single piece or made up of two pieces.

Posted by tamamahm in United States, 27 Feb 2013 11:50

Blah.

Beyond overall blahness, and nothing my 6 year old would want, my girls will love Medusa and 2/3 other girl characters. Beyond that... quite blah. For us, it is the worst series yet.

Posted by crimsonjester in United States, 27 Feb 2013 11:53

I wonder if they will move to a cardboard blind box mode (so that you can no longer feel out for a rare.) I think if they are going to add a "ultra rare" that is the only way to stop the nightmare of feeling for money.

Posted by slave2leia in United States, 27 Feb 2013 12:23

I'm liking many on these minifigures. Medusa is my favorite for sure, followed buy female warrior, Bee, and colonial guy. The bottom of my list would be skydiver, baseball guy, Biker, and paintballer. Unlike some I like the "trendy" girl, it's a new hair piece and chihuahua.

Posted by CurvedRoadPlate in United States, 27 Feb 2013 12:39

The gold minifig looks like Mr. Peanut

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 27 Feb 2013 12:58

And these will be even harder to find than series 9, oh fun.

Posted by Clan Stonebraker in United States, 27 Feb 2013 12:58

Does anyone else find it slightly ironic and disturbing that the "Golden Figure" so resembles Rich Uncle Pennybags from Monopoly. I really don't like this path Lego is taking.

@Aainchir
@Legomaniac
Women warriors were not uncommon in Ancient times. Typically among the Celts, the Gaul, consisting of entire bands. The Sycthian-Samartian from Volga river area also had women warriors and are believed to be the origin of the Amazon legend. Rome didn't have women warriors, at least that I am aware of, but did have women Gladiators called Gladiatrix (I'm not making that name up). :)

Posted by krklint in United States, 27 Feb 2013 13:15

So many ideas for the clown's hat! WOOT!!! and I see a few Blind Melon video mocs arriving in my near future :D

Posted by Odeinoichus in Canada, 27 Feb 2013 13:22

@The Green Brick Giant: What precisely are you saying here? Is Series 10 getting a smaller production number than the past Series' like with Series 1 and 2 or is it just going to be hard to find because of the Golden Mini-Figure causing more scalpers to buy up entire unopened boxes?

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 27 Feb 2013 13:26

Like always there are certain figures I'd love to have... but just buying one means feeling other bags and asking myself "Why not get this one too since I went through the trouble of finding it?". I usually end up coming home with 5-6 different bags after 2 hours of hassle (time and transportation).

Who cares about the rare figure?! If you think about it, both the entire series 1 and 2 were limited (due to their small production run) and it's not like they're selling for lots of money. If it's world wide availability in a limited quantity I don't see a number being smaller than 50K. Lego is not trying to create some minifigure which will skyrocket in value like a chrome C-3P0.

Posted by willkfwong in United States, 27 Feb 2013 13:31

Posted by EveryBrick in Switzerland, 27 Feb 2013 13:36

Medusa!!!

I think the whole series is awesome!

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 27 Feb 2013 13:53

Not quite as impressive as Series 9, but that's because that was just such a great series. I like this a lot, plenty of good figures. Nice hairpieces, animals, printed accessories, and of course all the new torso/leg/head prints. Favourite is either the Librarian or Trendsetter (though I wish the sunglasses head was nicer...). I'll probably get at least 12 of these figs, same as usual.

Don't get the disappointment in the golden figure though, he looks good but not so spectacular there's a massive need to get him. He's not part of the 16, so it's not like its going to mess up your collection.

The old guys torso would make a good Eleventh Doctor's torso. Overall though, kinda' a boring series. I still love Series 4.

Posted by LusiferSam in United States, 27 Feb 2013 15:22

Seriously, I'm the only one that knows that sad clown should be refereed to as Pagliaccio? He's from the Italian opera Pagliacci. I really the look of this series. I think the only I'm not really jacked about is the skydiver. The gold figure I'm not super excited to hear about. If I find one great, but I'm not going to bend over backwards to find one though.

Posted by tmgm528 in United States, 27 Feb 2013 15:24

/\/\ That would make a great torso for the eleventh doctor! Why character-building must you hold the DW license!

I am 100% pleased that Medusa has a snake tail a la Clash of the Titans. It will also be an easy part to search for.

Also, yes, the warrior woman is an Amazon. They are part of Greek Mythology, but perhaps based a bit in reality.

Huw: The golden minifigure is limited to 5,000 worldwide, not 50,000 as you said. :-)

Am I the only one that thought Mr. Burns when I saw the old guys head piece. :-)

Posted by Aanchir in United States, 27 Feb 2013 17:05

@LusiferSam: The sad clown is a classic commedia dell'Arte archetype called a pierrot. Pagliaccio from the opera Pagliacci is only the most famous example to use the archetype, and I think the name "Sad Clown" which TLG is expected to use for this figure is both descriptive and fitting (although the Pierrot is not sad by definition, he is usually portrayed as somewhat serious in demeanor and unfortunate in station compared to other clown archetypes).

More information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierrot

I wonder how the golden figure will be represented on the leaflet.

Posted by jinxjinx550 in United States, 27 Feb 2013 19:36

I don't know, I look at the warrior woman and I see Queen Boadicea of Britain. And I love all these figures. Except maybe the baseball guy. And the Motorcycle repairman. I find this a great set. Just hope the chasing and seeking won't be as frenzied as last time. I'm still trying to find a second Forest Maiden and Starlet from set #9.

Posted by jadblz in United States, 27 Feb 2013 19:39

I have to admit it's another great batch of figures this time around. But I have to agree with some other folks. This golden limited super rare chase figure leaves me feeling uneasy. I mean the CMF's are already somewhat of a pain to track down and "feel out" a set. But throw this type of hype into it and....well its getting scary. I've seen what other companies do with the hot wheel cars and marvel figures. But I always thought LEGO was above all that nonsense. Till the limited Toy Fair and Comic Con figures at least....

But as an adult collector who wants just one of each what do I do? Buy a box and sell the doubles? Buy a set on Ebay or Bricklink? Feel packages in a store for the better part of an hour?

As quickly as these come out and vanish, maybe LEGO could help people like me out. How about a VIP exclusive 16 pack? We pay a slight premium, get all 16 figures from that series and don't have to stalk the stores for them.

That would keep people from buying up full boxes just to complete a set, and put more in the hands of the true impulse buyers (the target audience for these)

A true win in my book. I hope LEGO can hear me... and BTW drop the chase figures...they just make the scalpers rich.

Posted by tmgm528 in United States, 27 Feb 2013 19:49

/\ I understand your uneasy feeling but I had figured this was going to happen at some point. Every single "mystery bag" type product has some type of Extremely rare fig........Whether its a rare marvel fig, rare Halo Megablox or a 1-500 exclusive DW Character building so I don't find it that uneasy.

Posted by SI Builder in Canada, 27 Feb 2013 20:03

Golden Minifigure: Top Hat

Posted by Legonizer in United States, 27 Feb 2013 20:38

Since I've collected all other series of minifigs, I sort of feel obligated to collect these. Time for another trip to the friendly neighborhood Lego store!

I'd be happy to find the golden figure, but I'm not going to go out of my way to find him. But, for all those who will be hunting for it, I suggest you don't go to the Lego store to find it. At the Lego store, the employees are the first ones to get their hands on the box and they are skilled at feeling those bags, they'd snatch it up before you'd even get the chance.

Posted by Zacherano in United States, 27 Feb 2013 22:05

Agreed, this may be the best series to date! I especially love the soldier and Gorgon in front. I hope TLG provides lots of those soldiers in every box. Does anyone know if there will be a golden minifig in every box or only 10,000 worldwide?

They probably won't make a vicar or bishop, since it's probably a little too religious.

I ran into David Pagano last night and the first thing we said talking about the new series was about a Blind Mellon video with the Bee Girl =-) I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of those, hopefully he finds the time as I'm sure his would be great. He also mentioned how great the face is on the sky-diver, and he's totally right, although the goggles detract slightly from it's usefulness. The real question is will any of us find a Goldie =-)

Posted by IAmWillGibson in United States, 28 Feb 2013 08:31

Especially now that they're doing chase figures in regular packs, I'd love LEGO to release non-blind all-in packs of the 16 main figures in a single box, sold through LEGO stored exclusively to VIPs. I'd far and away prefer that. 1000% of the time.

My wife is a librarian. She's in love. ;-)

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 28 Feb 2013 17:18

I only just noticed the little Chihuahua sat in front of the trendsetter Minifigure, brilliant!

Posted by Nate the Great of LEGO in United States, 28 Feb 2013 17:18

I want the Painter, Grandpa, and Trendsetter for sure. If I stumble upon the baseball player or the librarian, I'll get those too. But if I don't find those two, I'm okay with not having them.

Hi HUW,

Can you go ahead and make a page for "71002-17: LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 - Complete" now? I am sure we all want to add the item it to our wanted lists, even if there is no picture yet! Then if Series 11 never gets produced for some odd reason, you can just file it next to "Maya Mystica"! =)

Plus, I am guessing that you will leave the item number for the complete Series 10 be "71001-17" to match all the other CMF series pages, and then make that golden chase figure be "71001-18", since he is a bit extraneous to the normal series, and since a lot of people want to ignore him in their lists. That might be best!

I remember you were suggesting an option to let people ignore ultra-rare limited-edition figures in their lists, just to save people's sanity... If you are doing that, now would be a good time! Anyway, great work!! =)

I love how someone claims to already own this set. :D

Posted by JohnnyB in United Kingdom, 28 Feb 2013 22:36

These look awesome. Only Lego could unite Paris Hilton and Xena warrior princess!

Posted by spokeydokeyjenner-jones in United Kingdom, 01 Mar 2013 09:00

I'm gonna get the Tomahawk Indian. He looks awesome.

Posted by Ringskipper in United States, 01 Mar 2013 13:07

The Medusa looks AMAZING! I am so psyched for this now... I was really worried she'd have the normal leg piece (as seen in early pics on Brickipedia). I will get ten of her and make a Medusa army!

I also really want the Warrior Woman. The rest I'm really not that excited for, to be honest.

Posted by JesusFreak520 in United States, 01 Mar 2013 17:00

the amazon warrior seems to have the S.H.I.E.L.D. or wonder woman eagle on her shield

Posted by the_real_indy in United States, 01 Mar 2013 21:56

^ Yes, Wonder Woman IS officially an Amazon, so I think that is totally intentional. These are her tribes-women.

It's also great to see them printing a new quasi-historical design on the Captain America shield (the convex hoplon).

Let's hope we'll get a real Spartan design, or Athenian Owl, or Gorgon Face design, better than the blank flat shield!

Posted by wildcherryp3psi in United States, 01 Mar 2013 23:11

@tmgm528, if you're thinking of me with your comment "I love how someone claims to already own this set. :D" I actually don't claim anything. This was simply my observation of how to search using "feel up" method when they finally hit the shelves.

Posted by icey in Denmark, 02 Mar 2013 03:14

Do we have a slayer for Medusa or is that yet to come?

Posted by kmvk83 in Netherlands, 02 Mar 2013 04:00

Only 5000 golden figures....
Does any one know howmany boxsets are released? I would like to have an idea on the odds of finding a box with the figure inside...

Posted by toon10001 in United Kingdom, 02 Mar 2013 05:35

I bet someone will get 1000 of thise gold figures and sell them on ebay for obscene monies. i hate people who do that

Posted by tmgm528 in United States, 02 Mar 2013 12:41

@wildcherryp3psi
I was not talking about you. If you click on series 10 it says 600 and some people want the set and 1 person owns it.

Hey look, a Redneck! >:D

Posted by eric0529 in United States, 04 Mar 2013 02:35

I Believe the extra Gold Minifig is to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Minifig. I love all the Roman minifigs they have been doing. I hope they come out with a Roman series of sets. I also love all the mythical creatures and the barbarian and warrior figures. They all go nicely with my collection of knights.

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 04 Mar 2013 06:53

The iPhone is the only part I want in this series, just to replace all of the walkie talkies my figures still use! :D

Posted by Super Mario 64 in United States, 04 Mar 2013 13:36

Correct Me if I'm wrong, but I counted the golden one #17 in the series. Is it special/rare?

Posted by LEGO-KYLE in New Zealand, 07 Mar 2013 21:19

^ as Huw said he is an ultra rare (only 50,000 of him)

Posted by Maniac4Legos in United States, 08 Mar 2013 00:13

I like this series a lot, if only I could catch up with 8 and 9 first :O

I want any of Series 10 except the parachute guy and the amazon warrior. All others I'd be okay with, no matter which or how many.

I don't think the Mr. Gold minifigure will be in inserted randomly inside the bags at all.
Check this out: http://brickextra.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/LEGO-Minifigures-Character-Encyclopedia-2.jpg

On the "Did You Know?" section it says:

"Mr. Gold was created as an exclusive character to celebrate the 10th series of LEGO Minifigures. He is very rare
and the only figure that can't be found in every case of minifigure bags."

Can't be found in every case... what-ever that means.

That's not just a sad clown but Pagliacci, going with other opera/thespian minifigs like Cleopatra (series 5, hence why it came with an asp), Carmen (series 6), Valkyrie (series 7) and Hamlet (series 8).

Some have appeared on UK eBay!

I wonder if Mr Gold would be worth as much as real gold! :)

They came out in Germany today.

No Mr. Gold so far. :-D

Posted by neal in United Kingdom, 15 Apr 2013 06:41

Which UK retailer has the exclusive on these? Where do we need to be looking first to get them? WH Smith, Tesco, Argos, TrUs? anyone got a due date?

Posted by nameloc in United Kingdom, 15 Apr 2013 15:09

news on seris 10 seems hard to come by, considering previous series sent the msg boards a bit mad. interesting the lack of info considering this has the chase figure?

Posted by cyphr99 in United States, 15 Apr 2013 15:19

I picked up about 20 bags today at lunch my local Denver Target (Colorado/Alameda). I asked to see if there were any more and the cashier was nice enough to print out a list of the stores that were supposed to have them...
