$A 300 for a train with a 9 AAA battery pack! I figured for those sort of dollars there would be a lithium polymer battery included. This set is twice the price of Emerald Night for 200 fewer pieces (yes I know there are 3 PF elements in there but it's hardly Mindstorms is it).

It is a sad irony that Lego disbanded the 9V trains to lower manufacturing costs and has replaced it with battery trains that are just as expensive (possibly more so).

Lego badly needs to reinstate its unpowered trains at the bottom of the range - they can be upgraded to motorised by the owner as and when the owner can afford to buy the PF elements. With this new line of trains, it's all or nothing (or, more accurately, all or a level crossing). Very disappointing in view of the excellent set designs and clear playability. However good these sets are, at these prices Lego is excluding a huge section of the potential market.

So will I buy one? Duh! Of course! But I am an AFOL earning a salary. Lego needs to think about the next generation of train fans who are still on pocket money.

$400.00 NZ for the Cargo Train, WOW! Has there been a significant improvement to the motor and increase in piece’s to ask for that much? $300.00 AU is bad enough. Will have to wait for the sale’s I think, they do look good the passenger train is a lot better than the last one in my opinion but for that price?
Is there any new piece’s besides the motor, I guess the motor and power function stuff sell for a pretty penny on there own.

I wont be buying one until I can get it on sale somewhere. Lego holds these trains to a high price standard.

I saw them listed on the UK site last night... almost died after looking at the price. I really thought I'd buy my first train set this time around (Cargo Train), however the price is way too much for what you're getting. I guess the biggest flaw on these train sets are their expensive parts. I am on 'pocket money' so I can't buy any!

Lego continue to price themselves out of the Australian market. Even with shipping it is significantly cheaper to order out of the US and pay shipping.

Yeah the train`s cost more than some of the other lego sets out there per piece, but when you look a scale model train set`s there not all that bad. And who buys lego at full price, Alway get it on sale. Oh and who would want to sell in the ozzy market NZ is alot better

Well yes its high. I was saying if you look at the "real model train sets" in NZ there over $750 each to start with, so when loking at the cost of lego its not al that bad and you can do alot more with the lego trains as well. Like mske you owen one.

And I would like the 9V parts back on the market I do think there alot better and have more power. Have it so we can by the train sets and then what PF elements the buyer wants to use

Not sure I get your argument on that one. To me the price of lego trains relative to model/hobby trains is only meaningful if you would actually substitute one for the other. If you have no interest in hobby trains but do have an interest in lego the difference in the price wouldn't matter to you and the lego sets just look very expensive vs. other lego sets. Not to mention the price of lego in Aus vs. the price overseas at recent exchange rates.

well, i dont collelt any trains. i was just saying that £100 is a LOT of money that i would not pay :)
