Ordered the new Cargo Train and 2 Level Crossing sets last night. Should make a great addition to my collection. Now if Lego could only choose 1 method of powering their trainsets as I now have 9V and 3 different battery configurations.

$130 for the passenger train and $180 for the cargo train? Those are huge deal breakers. I'll probably stick with the older version of the crago train, but the crossing and station seem to be beneficial add-ons. Still I might try to get one.

I'm pretty put off by the price tags but considering we're going to get power functions with it, I guess its not too bad.

OMG! $180 smackers for the Cargo Train? Is it a Star Wars cargo train...wow. I'm a little put off by the price considering I could get much larger sets for a smaller investment. I understand the technology upgrade for the Power Function controls is pricey but I would much rather have a naked train and a choice to purchase the Power Function items. This is a set back on my quest to upgrade my train layout.

Does anyone know if either train set will available in the US at TRU? If so it might be worth waiting for a BOGO week at TRU.

I only want the Level Crossing (x2), and while I expected that to be the price, I still wish it were just a couple of dollars cheaper. As was said above, it would be great if TRU carries all of the new train sets so I could buy them on sale eventually.

if you live in the us don't complain about the price, the passenger train costs $169.99 cad but $129.99 us that is a $40 difference between canada and the us, the cargo train is $239.99 cad but only $179.99 us that is a $60 difference, and the cargo train has the same price as the old one! in canada i don't know about the us.

R4-G9 - It's all relative, isn't it? Also, nice is that sets then to show up earlier than in Canada...Just curious, if you bought in US and brought it back, does the VAT that you pay at the border cancel out any savings you might have had?

I think when we complain about the price we are comparing them to the previous sets. For example the passenger train was +/- $80 in the US, the new one is $129.99. That used to be the price of the old freight train. I think this is kinda a heartless move for Lego given the current world economic situation.

LEGO has trained me well with their triple-digit city blocks, not to mention, 399 Death Stars and 499 Millenium Falcons. What's another 180 for a remote-controled choo choo?

As much as I'd love to own my first train... I'm already fighting the loan sharks (my dad) and I'd rather not throw myself in front of a bus asking for something else. I owe him so much for getting me 3 Millenium Falcons at $170CAN(each) and 3 AT-OTs at $90CAN(each) on the May 3rd Sale!!! Plus I'm going to save up my Lego whinning for when Tower Bridge comes out.

@faster345, but brickset has trained us to check the price per part ratio on our wanted list. The UCS Falcon is 9c per part, the passenger train is almost 15c per part (Perhaps the highest ratio on Brickset)! Horrible investment.

EDIT: Passenger Train is 19c per part! Wow!

I ordered two from the local Lego store Sunday. They arrived today! One was built and the other one will be used to build more cars. The power functions from the second set will be used to upgrade one of my other trains, I haven't desided which one yet.

This little train flies. Much so that it flew off the curve, launched itself off the train table, three feet to the basement floor. The engines driver has now been downgraded to the yard switcher. I don't blame the little guy, I would want to open up my new ride and see what she can do too. LOL

copperwonder96 but if you want to add PF and a couple of extra passenger wagons to your emerald night you have to shell out 100 for PF and 60-70 on ebay for the wagons or get yourself two more complete emerald nights for 200. So 180 for a PF train with tracks, crane, switch, wagons, vehicles, and MFs seems like a bit of a bargain compared to the emarald night. Just sayin'.

I agree with faster345; consider that the price of the tracks would be about $50 and $40 for the PF pieces, it is not an unreasonable price at all.

I agree with faster345. All the power functions in that set would equal about 60 dollars and the track 40 dollars.
If thats 100, then it would only be 80 for the train, which is pretty good, And the previous train was 149.99, so that is only a thirty dollar difference

You know, I remember as a kid saving my pennies to spend $50 or so for the train set (Set #183) that was available in the 70's. Considering that price back then, these kinds of prices are actually quite reasonable.
