    New Lego Store Texas Another LEGO Store will soon be calling Texas home. Barton Creek Square in Austin will be the home of LEGO's fifth brand retail location in Texas. The new Austin store is set to open on July 15th with a grand opening celebration over the first weekend of August. LEGO currently operates four stores in Texas, two each in both Dallas and Houston.

LEGO will be opening 15 stores this year. Around 6 or so have already been opened across the world.

I'm not sure where the next store is opening. Keep your eyes open for any news, and if do have something to share, feel free to do so by using the "contact us!" page.

Hmph. Multiples in select states and none in others? I'm tired of driving eight hours just to get to the nearest Lego store! We need one in Arkansas... Missouri at least...

A Lego Store in others countries of Europe would also be great, so far there is just Lego stores in UK and Germany, which is a bit too select when you see the number of store in Germany.

Congrats to Texas! Big state needs more than 1 LEGO Store! NY only had 1 up until March of this year.

Sadly my local Lego store (Birmingham UK) closed down a couple of years back. With all these new stores planned I hope they decide to reopen one in what is, population wise, Britain's second largest city.

Thank you Brickapolis for posting this! I am happy to spread to word about LEGO when and where I can! I am actually transferring from Chandler, AZ to Austin, TX to be the new Store Manager of this location and I couldn't be happier! Our soft opening date is actually Thursday July 15th, however our grand opening celebration I believe is slated for the first weekend in August (08/06-08/08). It would be great to get a few Brickset followers out there to celebrate Texas' 5th LEGO Brand Retail Store!

Rally? Another one in Texas? It seems like LEGO is avoiding all the interior states and goes around on the coasts and to Northern and Southern regions.

I agree with everyone wishing for more Lego stores spread evenly across the US and the rest of Europe, not to mention also in Australia. I can't complain since one finally opened in my area a year and a half ago. Prior to that, I never saw a Lego store since it wasn't realistic to drive across two (reasonably-large) states to visit the one in New York. The UK also needs more Lego Stores as I'm surprised there isn't one in either Glasgow or Edinburgh yet.

They really do need to open one in the North of England, there are three at the moment and they're all down South, which is just too far to go for the point of maybe one or two sets.

Ok so for everyone complaining I can shed a little light on how they go about picking locations (at least in the USA from what I am told). Its not that they choose to avoid one area or play favorites opening many in another. It involves many criteria that add up at that one point that they jump and bite. Such as: Rent the mall would charge, the spaces open in the mall. The economic factors in the particular area (Lego is a for profit company), and other things that are above my understanding. It does make a certain bit of sense that some areas would continue to have better success with these factors than others and I know they look at the entire country as a whole when weighing these factors, not singling out a particular area. You may also think your mall is cool or "better" than the one Lego picked that you have to drive further to, but factors involved them picking the mall they did ahead of your closer mall. I also have to imagine that once they get the higher priority targets on the list they will broaden out and hit some lower targets. Finally just because Lego doesn't act immediately they do listen to feedback so kindly let the staff know how far you are driving in from. This may make it up the chain to help push for a store closer to you.

I see Arizona is going to be getting another store. Sorry T-Town your not getting one this year. However you west valley folks might like a store.

@Kevin Hinkle That's great to hear! From what I've heard, Austin is a wonderful city. Lots of technical people in the area should mean that there is a market for Lego and in turn, a Lego Store.

@loganevanlegos & @Jayko543 Lego will be opening a store in Detroit, MI in the near future. The Detroit store will be located in the "Somerset Collection" mall. Considering the mall is currently home to the North Face and Luis Vuiton among many other luxury goods stores; this seems to be prime location for a Lego Store.

How about Middle Eastern Missouri? Or anywhere near St. Louis? The closest one is in Chicago! I don't think my mom will drive that far for LEGO.

I can confirm that yes a new store is opening in somerset for us Michigan folks..talking to Steve Witt on the phone yesterday (about a project with somerset and Lego) he confirmed September opening for said store.

I don't know how TLG chooses its store locations, but here are some justifications for 5 stores in TX. 3 of our nation's top 10 most populous cities are in TX. Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. Austin is in between these three cities with a population growing at a rate well above the national average. it has recently been included in a list of recession-proof cities. as y'all know, geographically, Texas is huge. it's the largest (by area) of our 48 contiguous states. you could cut the state in half, and both halves would still rank in the top 5. all that said.... we must buy a ton of bricks, or TLG wouldn't keep giving us new stores. we are glad for kevin's arrival and can't wait for our newest store.

Michigan has been in a state of recession for years. Their economy is one of the worse in the United States and it looks like with the demise of labor intensive U.S Manufacturing it will only get worse. Opening a store there would be idiotic.

@WarriorAB While manufacturing jobs have been lost and many people are unemployed; Detroit has many prosperous suburbs that continue to do reasonably well in this recession. There are many people who still make a decent amount of money and live in nice houses in and around Detroit. Detroit's airport is a hub for Delta, as such it boasts flights to Shanghai, Seoul and many other international destinations. So no; opening a store in Detroit is not idiotic. I'm sure there are plenty of people in Michigan who are loyal Lego customers.

I'm ecstatic there is a Lego Store so close by to us, we have been to the others in Dallas area and in Houston area. I'm still not sure why there are 2 in the Dallas area and 2 in the Houston area but glad there is now one in my area. Maybe they can close down Frisco or Friendswood and open one in San Antonio TX next

WAB ,Metro Detroit is indeed in recession but still has large population that can support this store...and for ten years my club has been showcasing the brick driving interest :-)

@TXClark If anything, they should close down the newer one in the Houston Galleria (just went to Texas recently) since it's smaller and way too busy compared to the one in Friendswood.
