7848: Toys R Us City Truck
    City/Traffic, 2010
    More details...
    ©2010 LEGO Group

    • Toys R Us - yet again, TRU is running a BOGO 50% off sale, though this one is limited to Duplo, Atlantis, City and Prince of Persia sets. As this sale will be in their weekly flyer, I expect it to be honored both in-store and on-line, and for multiple sets. Sale runs from 7/18 - 7/24.
    • Target - there are no LEGO sales advertised in this week's flyer.
    • Walmart - still offering great bundles like City Corner and Smart Car for $49 (saves you $15) or Vader Tie Fighter and Snowy Battlepack for $29 (saves you $12). Additionally, the Corporate Alliance Tank Droid, Echo Base, Freeco Speeder, Hyena Bomber, Trifighter Droid, Army Men on Patrol, and Space Galactic Enforcer can be had for 20% off or more. They also have the wonderful LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary at only $12.50 which is more than a 40% discount.
    • Borders - for Rewards members (free to sign up), Borders e-mails us great coupons every week. This past week, I was sent a 33% off one item coupon that could be used once in-store and once on-line. On Wednesday, I found a Borders with several discontinued Shanghai Chase sets and used my coupon to get one for only $20. Borders has since sent me another 33% off one item coupon that's valid this week. If you're not yet a member, I highly recommend you join. They even sell books!  ;o)

UPDATE #1:  The Small Print on the TRU Sale limits the Price Range to sets between $6.99 and $149.99, effectively eliminating only the Cargo Train and impulse sets.  And unless you wanted 2 of the cargo trains, that set was not a good fit for this type of sale anyway when trying to maximize the discount.  In regards to the impulse sets, you wouldn't save much anyway once you've factored in the recent TRU markups.

UPDATE #2B:  The City Sets are now reflecting the BOGO 50% sale online, including the cargo train.  Please note, though, that the BOGO 50% only appears to be applying to one set per transaction online.  This is probably due to the free shipping offer which is indeed stacking online.

awww why do we get no BOGOF's in UK TRU?

Posted by Legoluch in United Kingdom, 16 Jul 2010 12:32

I wonder when they are going to release the much wanted City Public Transport set in TRU's

Posted by knuclear200x in United States, 16 Jul 2010 12:47

Dang, they sure have been running bogo's more in TRU than last year. and its nice seeing borders is selling lego, at similar prices too waitaminnit, you got one of the old ninja sets?!

Posted by brickmatt in United States, 16 Jul 2010 13:03

Another one? I just used last week's coupon and a $10 off $50 or more to get the Kingdoms Prison Tower and Atlantis HQ for $67. TRU must really want to sell more Lego. I may pick up the smaller Persia set with a camel, if there's a similarly priced set I can get the discount on.

Posted by legowomen1980p in United States, 16 Jul 2010 13:05

is this set at toy r us in the U.S.A. YET???

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 16 Jul 2010 13:16

@legowomen1980p - The TRU truck is indeed available and not too much more than the yellow LEGO truck. For the BOGO 50% deal, it doesn't pair well with a ton of sets, though. Perhaps the awesome Apple Tree House....?

@brickmatt - TRU recently raised the price on the camel set so the closest pairings are likely the yellow LEGO truck, Passenger Plane, and Pig Farm.

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 16 Jul 2010 13:22

Another for TRU... oh the US is always causing problems for my Lego collecting. I live in Canada so it's not like I use Canadian prices (since dollars are close, and prices are not) and ordering anything through America is such a problem because it takes time before I can even get what I bought. Plus I feel a little guilty filling up my aunt's house with boxes of Lego and getting the odd phone call "Why is Lego sending me stuff?"....

Posted by I like Lego in Canada, 16 Jul 2010 14:11

On the Canadian Toys-R-us website, they are selling Shave-a-sheep (also known as Wild Wool) and the Harry Potter Lego Game.

Late 2010 Technic Sets now showing In Stock at TRU online. Hurry!
Including the 8043-1 excavator at $199.00. Sweeeet!
Others: 8052-1 Container Truck, 69.99 and 8053-1 Mobile Crane, 99.99
Oh, and some new Star Wars stuff too. Meh.

Posted by Unknown User2596 in United States, 16 Jul 2010 14:30

What, another BOGO sale?
Target needs to have a sale soon. 3 months and no sales!

Posted by joao in Portugal, 16 Jul 2010 14:36

It also works on Toy Story sets. I just got a Duplo and a normal Toy Story set with the cheapest one 50% off.

Posted by mkoesel in United States, 16 Jul 2010 14:57

joao, that's probably because the current BOGO is still in effect right now, and it covers all sets (except Star Wars of course). It's the one starting this Sunday that only covers the limited themes, as mentioned in the posting.

Posted by Morgan19 in United States, 16 Jul 2010 15:36

For those looking to cash in on the Borders coupons, just keep an eye out on their prices before you spend. Within the past few months most (if not all) Borders have pulled a TRU and raised LEGO prices over MSRP. Sometimes it's only a few dollars, but they've added upwards of $20-$30 on bigger sets, making any coupon more or less a wash.

(Shanghai Chase was the one exception at a few of them here; they were still retail while everything else was marked up.)

Posted by Crt2 in United States, 16 Jul 2010 15:45

Finally! Someone who Realizes The Awesomeness of Borders! It's Where I Get Most of my lego sets for 33-40% off!

Posted by podgi237 in United States, 16 Jul 2010 16:32

Does Borders only sell Lego in stores? I couldn't find em online...

Posted by baylego in United States, 16 Jul 2010 17:03

This isn't a sale, but Target has the Pirate Tank, Temple of Doom, Fighter Plane Attack, Garage, and City Corner on clearance. They are really good deals, so get the sets before they are gone!

Posted by durins in United States, 16 Jul 2010 17:05

My disappointing TRU has very full shelves with no new sets, all the usual markups, and no signage anywhere for the BOGO sale. I think it's going to be a while before I see anything new over there. The Target across the parking lot has lots of empty shelves, so hopefully they do a restock soon. And yeah, they are overdue for a sale.

Posted by Crt2 in United States, 16 Jul 2010 18:50

@baylego: How Much was The City Corner? 30% Off I Assume?

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 17 Jul 2010 04:36

No sign of the TRU truck in the UK, at least online. Have any UK folks seen it on the shelves ? I'm starting to think it might be a US-exclusive

Posted by AZFIREWOLF in United States, 17 Jul 2010 08:39

Dr Dave- I got an extra one if you want it. After shipping I don't know what the price will be.

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 17 Jul 2010 09:04

WOW! I had no idea Borders sell books! Kidding! :P

Posted by R4-G9 in Canada, 17 Jul 2010 09:09

DrDaveWatford it is coming to canada too.

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 17 Jul 2010 10:11

Thanks, AZFIREWOLF - if TRU decide not to sell the set in the UK then I will certainly take you up on that offer !

Posted by DrathMaul1997 in United Kingdom, 17 Jul 2010 12:17

Sorry, But what does 'BOGO' mean?

Posted by superbrick in United States, 17 Jul 2010 12:19

@ozlbkilo - I think the excavator and cargo train would be a good deal

Posted by liisadd76 in United States, 17 Jul 2010 13:32

Was just at the Target at Parmer/35 in Austin. They have put a lot of their Lego sets on clearance for 50% off. I bought the only Venator they had at $59.99. They also had 1 Pirate Tank, Power Miners Rock Wrecker, Temple of Doom, Fighter Plane Attack (both IJ), Lego City Garage, Space Police Container Heist, Bionicle Cendox all at 50% off. Good Deal! The Toy Story soldier pack (they only had 1) was $7.99. Unfortunately, I will likely be taking the Venator back soon after getting it home - it was for my son and he let me know that he is not very interested in that particular set (although he circled it last Christmas!), and I don't want to waste the money. He is big on the new Harry Potter line and is waiting for that...I will probably be taking the Venator back later today to the Lakeline Target should anyone have that on their list...

Posted by 1265 in United States, 17 Jul 2010 15:07

@liisadd76 - Thanks for lead!! Will check my Target.

Posted by liisadd76 in United States, 17 Jul 2010 15:20

@DrathMaul1997: BOGO = "Buy One, Get One", in this case Buy One set, get the (cheaper) set 50% off.

Posted by Crt2 in United States, 17 Jul 2010 16:19

@Liisaad:$45 Dollar Temple of Doom. $45 Dollar Temple of Doom. $45 DOLLAR TEMPLE OF DOOM!!!!

Posted by liisadd76 in United States, 17 Jul 2010 17:06

Yes, I soooooooooo wish I hadn't bought the Temple at its original price....!
BTW, Venator is now at Lakeline Target for any takers...

Posted by AZFIREWOLF in United States, 17 Jul 2010 20:03

Thanks DrDave. If you need anything from the US sets I might be able to help you out with that.

Posted by legomatt in United Kingdom, 17 Jul 2010 23:28

@Crt2: You Lucky, lucky, lucky... person. I bet you are smiling very widely indeed. The US seems to have a lego sale every 5 seconds lately, good for you! Is there even such a phrase as 'retail' price in your wondrous golden land of opportunities? :oP
The only time I found Lego Indiana Jones on sale in the UK, was from 'forbidden planet international' - they had them all at 75% off (even pre-orders!). Naturally i dived in and ordered a couple of everything, but they just lied and backtracked, claiming they wouldn't be having the sets after all and couldn't get them, canceling all orders (without consent - as i was willing to wait for the items to come in, they were PRE-orders). Then, a few months later they advertised every set online and in stock (but at full RRP). Bunch of cheap, lousy, lying, no-good... I was not amused. Vowed to never buy anything from them again. :o)

Posted by rifraphy in Poland, 18 Jul 2010 02:06

^Those people should try being automotive salesmen in the USA. :P

Hey liisadd, do you where I can find out which ones are on sale and which ones aren't without having to go to a Target? I looked on their website but I couldn't find anything that seemed to be 50% off. :(

Posted by liisadd76 in United States, 18 Jul 2010 11:56

@rifraphy: What I did was look on target.com specifically at all of the ones that people said they had seen on clearance. I then clicked on Find at Target store to see which Targets still had that set. Then I called those stores to get them to check the price ( I gave them the DPCI number that is on the website under "additional info") and tell me if it was on clearance. I only had to call one or two stores, as the sets that are on clearance are only at a couple of stores. They probably will not hold clearance items, so if you find something you really want you have to get to the store right away :)

Posted by Legoliner Pilot in United States, 18 Jul 2010 17:39

I hate BOGOs. Why can't they make it "50% off all LEGO building toys"? That would surely be great.

Posted by rifraphy in Poland, 18 Jul 2010 18:21

Awright, thanks very much! :)

Posted by Crt2 in United States, 18 Jul 2010 19:03

@legomatt: Whoah! Calm Down! I Didn't Even Buy The ToD. I Was Just Commenting That it's a Superb Deal. :) The Only GREAT Deal I Ever Got was the CW AT-TE at Goodwill for $9 Dollars. :D And The 40% Offs at Borders.

Posted by JReedNet in United States, 18 Jul 2010 20:29

Has anyone seen the ToysRUs truck anywhere in stores? I went to two of them today, Deptford, NJ and Cherry Hill, NJ. The Cherry Hill store had the Yellow truck and the Deptford store had a shelf label for the TRU truck with a green dot sticker on it with a handwritten date of 7/16 on it and something else.

I am going to try the Philadelphia, PA store tomorrow. Any TRU insiders know what the green sticker means?

I ended up getting the Octan gas truck and the level crossing using the BOGO deal. I'd like to use the same deal on the two trucks. If not, I'll have to go with Yellow truck + pig farm and hope to see the TRU truck come in stock online soon.

Posted by clowndiscus in United States, 18 Jul 2010 20:55

i picked up the toysrus truck today on buy one get one 50% off. i am happy. i am in oregon, also they had the cargo train the new fire one, plus the new mini set of the alien from toystory

Posted by chantastic in United States, 18 Jul 2010 21:41

The ToysRUs truck was also spotted in Los Angeles for $40, as well as Wampa Cave $40 and the new AT-AT $110.

They also had one box of collectible minifigs series 1 also and were limiting them to 6 per person.

Posted by legomatt in United Kingdom, 18 Jul 2010 22:20

@Crt2: Oh no, I think you misunderstood, i am happy for anyone who got that deal, it is genuinely great... reading back i may have sounded sarcastic, but i was genuinely chuffed for anyone getting great deals. I love it whenever people have happy finds, i'm not that mean spirit sort who begrudges people their fortune, far from it. So very sorry if i sounded otherwise. What i did jokingly grumble at was that company who blatantly backtracked on the deal i found... definitely wasn't aimed at anyone here, and was meant in a light-hearted tone (like how daffy duck might do). :o)

@legomatt: It's Okay, No Hard Feelings. :)

Posted by grendelscott in United States, 19 Jul 2010 01:16

Got the TrU truck yesterday at the Scottsdale Pavillions TrU in AZ. Used last weeks BOGO 50% coupon, plus the $5 Reward Member coupon they emailed me on Friday, which was for Saturday use only. Couldn't decide what to get at first, but ended up getting the passenger plane with it.

This is my first post here, so I just want to say thanks to the site owners, and all of the members. From what I have seen so far this is a pretty awesome community!

Posted by DrathMaul1997 in United Kingdom, 19 Jul 2010 06:28

@liisadd76 ah, thank you M8

And @grendelscott, yes it is Very awesome :)

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 19 Jul 2010 08:48

grendalscott- welcome to brickset! oh and yeah, this site is awesome.
i used the BOGO sale to buy 3 sets (i got one for a freinds birthday, myself, and another gift) two of those 10.00 creators that include one minifig, the car theme and the castle theme, and 12.00 PoP set. but it came out to 30.00?!
it said i saved 6 dollars on the receit. i heard TRU dont always apply the sales so oh well.
P.S. what does M8 stand for? is it a member?

Posted by liisadd76 in United States, 19 Jul 2010 09:42

@isaturkey: I read it as "mate", as in bud...

Posted by AZFIREWOLF in United States, 19 Jul 2010 09:48

Hey Grendelscott, great to read that there is another builder that shops in Scottsdale.

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 19 Jul 2010 09:56

@itsaturkey - you need to buy even numbers of sets in order to get the discount. :o)

Posted by bader in United States, 19 Jul 2010 11:50

I got 2 Cargo Trains at TRU for BOGO 50%... so dont thing there is actually a price limit?

Posted by Crt2 in United States, 19 Jul 2010 12:28

@grendelscott: Just a Question, Did TRU Send you $5 for Doing something (I.E. Spending a Certain Ammount of money)? or Just Being a Member? I Would REALLY Like to Know.

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 19 Jul 2010 12:28

@bader - there were no limitations (except for Star Wars) on the BOGO 50% Coupon that expired on Saturday. According to their BOGO 50% promo this week, the deal would not apply to the cargo train. Did you get it on Saturday or Sunday?

@Crt2 - I also received the $3 Rewards Bucks Coupon good for 7/17/10 only. I assumed it was due to my previous purchases.

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 19 Jul 2010 13:13

Oh sure this TRU sale is great and all, but lets ignore the fact that there is no longer free shipping! So good luck in store shoppers... and kindly remember those Canadians who want to jump the border and run into TRU.

Doesn't Lego limit the online sales another company can have with their product...? I mean, it seems like TRU is hitting Lego.com's sales pretty hard.

Of course with only little sales happening in Canada, it's like no one is trying to sell their Lego.

Posted by ShatteredGnome in United States, 19 Jul 2010 14:31

Amazon.com has SW Trifighter Droid, Freeco Speeder, and Corporate Alliance Tank Droid all for $20 right now. I got Echo Base for $20 last week, but now it's up to $22 again. Some great deals to be had! Glad I have Prime shipping...

Posted by ceroknight in Canada, 19 Jul 2010 20:59

wow another sale outside canada :-( come to think of it, the cheapest lego set I ever got has to be a bohrok which I got for $5 in a 'winners' 5 years ago...can someone please update canada's sales like this?
That would be amazing

Posted by grendelscott in United States, 20 Jul 2010 02:53

@Crt2 - It was just a "Super Bonus Saturday" bonus coupon for reward members, and was good for $5 off any purchase. I think the only time I get coupons for how much I spend is in the paper mail they send out. I have received two coupons in there since being a reward member.

Posted by grendelscott in United States, 20 Jul 2010 02:59

Anyone else notice that TRU has a few sets that are actually CHEAPER than lego.com? I noticed that on the new World Racer Gator Swamp set (8899) and one other I can't remember at the moment. That's the first time I've seen that happen.
http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=8899
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4005248

Edit: Remembered the other...it was the Atlantis HQ:

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 20 Jul 2010 08:24

@grendelscott - The tanker truck is also cheaper at $18.99 vs $19.99. It's definitely a novel approach that I support. :o)

Posted by Legoliner Pilot in United States, 20 Jul 2010 15:52

The reason why it is cheaper then LEGO's price is because when you are a retailer, you don't buy products by unit price. Rather, retailers get a large discount for buying in bulk quantities.

Posted by Crt2 in United States, 20 Jul 2010 15:56

@grendelscott: Gee Pal, You Just Joined yet You're already Popular! :D I Like how TRU's Taking about a Dollar off some stuff, But it's not that Much worth it. :[

Posted by 1265 in United States, 20 Jul 2010 17:54

@Legoline Pilot - Not buying the "TRU bulk theory"....more of their sets are priced higher than LEGO. It's hit-and-miss with some sets being cheaper than LEGO. Nonetheless, I love the sales at TRU!!

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 20 Jul 2010 19:36

@1265 - I can understand the bulk buying from TRU but I know the TRU in Times Square has most sets well above LEGO retail prices (some and only a few are the same as LEGO online). Even the new LEGO Rockefeller store has their prices slightly above their normal prices (and I'll assume that's due to the rent there). LEGO Queens Center mall is spot on with their prices. Target (in Queens) at times was above retail. They had Indiana Jones Temple Escape at retail when that first came out, then raised it's price when the set became 'hard to find' by $7.00. And they tacked on like a dollar or two to another Star Wars set I can't remember due to it's 'popularity'. They did it with some Transformers sets I remembered as well. Bu they make up for it for me with all these sales goin' on! Keep 'em coming!!!

Posted by doodlebird in United States, 21 Jul 2010 02:02

can anyone else confirm the 7598 Pizza Planet Delivery Truck at Target (in store only) for $25? that's 37.5% off!
i saw it there (SW austin, TX) today, but i've been in a few other targets recently, and hadn't seen that price anywhere else.

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 21 Jul 2010 12:27

@doodlebird - I've so far been unable to find any clearance sets at our local Targets, though I don't doubt the reports. I imagine, though, that the TRU3 sets are probably still too new to reflect that much of a discount...

Posted by Unknown User2596 in United States, 22 Jul 2010 20:05

Saw the 30040 polybags on clearance for $2.08 at Westgate Target today.

Posted by Cecilgene in United States, 24 Jul 2010 01:36

The price range limit didn't seem to be in effect at my local TRU here in Phoenix. I got the #3177 City - Small Car for $2.50 when I bought another City item. Maybe it varies from region to region.

Posted by Captain Blockbeard in United States, 24 Jul 2010 09:11

I finally saw the new Train sets at my local TRU yesterday (Friday), and although they were nearly out of stock by the time I got there, most likely due to the ongoing BOGO 50% off sale, I was finally able to pick up a pair of the Level Crossing. They also had one remaining box of each of the trains.

I also got a $10 coupon for that "Super Saturday" last weekend, though to my annoyance, the coupon was only good 7/17 and I didn't receive the email in my inbox until a whopping 3 days later. Yet I know there's likely nothing wrong with my email account since I always receive all of the other TRU email ads on time.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 27 Jul 2010 23:29

Target in Elmhurst Queens, New York (near the Queens Mall LEGO Store: about less than 3 blocks apart)has just a couple of sets on sale 30% off. I picked up Space Police Hyperspeed Pursuit last week for $35.00. There were like 6 of them but this week there all gone. They have only ONE City Garage set there for 30% off (I believe it's a $100 dollar set for $70 bucks)and about 4 Star Wars Venator Class Republic Attack Cruisers for $84 dollars.

Today I picked up a Galactic Enforcer for $65.00 (30% off plus a $5.00 coupon I got in the mail). Now here's the thing. There were 2 on the shelf. One in a new box, the other box beaten up and it's the older boxes with the hinge, complete top opens. I picked up the newer box and thanks to my son he noticed the tape loose. Sure enough it was coming off and I checked inside...YEP, all the mini-figs, plus the Space 'statue' white mini-fig all gone. Whomever took it cleverly resealed the baggie (I could see a hint of residue glue or tape). At quick glance you won't notice it. I went back and checked the beaten up older box and it had all the figs, bags, etc. So I snatched that up.
NOW, if anyone is going to the Queens Target store in Elmhurst. There is ONE Galactic Enforcer on the shelf on sale (30% off). New box. That box has NO MINI-FIGS. Just an FYI people.
