Not quite sure what to make of this ... we've had a number of people email in over the last couple of days about the apparent availability of the new Harry Potter sets from Tesco Direct, for next day delivery. This is a little earlier than we were expecting, and Tesco isn't one of the normal 'early shipping' sources, so I've held off posting the news in the hope that we might get confirmation one way of the other ...

So, anyone ordered any of these sets from Tesco Direct, and have you received them yet ?

EDIT - seems to be legit folks! We'd been told these sets weren't going to be released until October, so this is pretty early!

Ive ordered one of each, I will let you know if they turn up. I have had the order confirmation e-mail, so I may be lucky.

YES!!! A bit pricey though. I thought The Castle would be £80 not £100, The Train £60 not £80, The Burrow £40 not £60, Hagrid's Hut £30 not £40, Quidditch Match £20 and Freeing Dobby £6 not £10
I am going to phone my tesco now so be prepared for information!!!

@keithkram If they do then please can you clarify which picture Argus Filch's hair (Hogwarts castle) and Ron's hair (Hagrids Hut) are actually like?

I recently got all the lego harry potter sets delivered on the weekend. I was really happy.

@legoboy12345678: Awesome, so where are the pictures of your new HP sets? Can you take some close-ups of the minifigures?

Posted by nexus15 in United States, 31 Aug 2010 14:25

It seems they are jumping the gun quite a bit. TLG proper isn't selling them in store or online till October (presumably 1st). They are taking pre-orders @ lego.com starting sept 1st. Just like the new fall star wars sets on amazon being sold early I expect TLG to order them to stop (so get in quick if you cant wait)

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2010 14:41

Given the Tesco mark-up on some of the new Star Wars sets I suspect Tesco are selling these sets at a premium too; I'll be waiting for Amazon to stock and discount them.....

I hope they are now available. I want them all. hagrids hut and hogwarts express are horribly priced.

Posted by Matthew in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2010 15:01

The sets are now listed as not available in this country on Shop @ Home.
There are lots of additional images (To load to the site Huw?)

Hi Everyone,
Just got home and my items (Hagrids Hut, The Burrow and Hogwarts Castle) have been delivered by Tesco Direct. Everything seems to be in tip top condition. Like legoboy12345678 has already confirmed, they really are available and I really have received them.

Posted by legogirl19 in United States, 31 Aug 2010 17:12

@ LegoCoastGuard - The prices aren't on the Lego site, so it is hard to say if Tesco is marking up or not!

Posted by dfenz in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2010 19:13

The Smyths toys UK website has three Harry Potter sets up (4841, 4842 and 4738) but they are not available until 1 October. The prices are identical to the Tesco direct prices referred to above.

Can anyone who has 4842 confirm if Voldemort has green robes or black robes?

Posted by drewtheskater in United States, 31 Aug 2010 21:45

I just got the new Lego catalogue and it said that they were due October 1st. Any news of these in the US?

Posted by ceroknight in Canada, 31 Aug 2010 21:49

arent these going to be available for pre-order tomorrow at S@H?

Posted by burakki62 in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2010 03:20

They are so expensive though. I was hoping to pick a couple of them up but i cant at these prices.

Posted by Orsie in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2010 03:24

can you get them in tescos or just through tesco direct

Posted by Sword2211 in United States, 01 Sep 2010 04:07

I assume you can't order a set to send to the U.S

Posted by Skrytsson in Sweden, 01 Sep 2010 05:25

... and they can't ship to Sweden either? Do they only ship to UK?!

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2010 06:27

The only ship *within* the UK. Tesco is the UK's largest chain of supermarkets; 'Tesco Direct' is one of their web-based presences'. This is marked as "Shopping News (UK)" so it shouldn't be of any surprise that this news is only relevant to UK residents :-)

HARRY POTTER SETS
Following the new sets being on Tesco's website, I have just got back from my local Tesco Express and have picked up a direct catalogue. I have scanned the HP Lego and have put it at http://treehouseproduction.webs.com/img001.jpg
Presumably the prices online are real not bumped up. It says Oct 1st though.
My computer won't let me on Flickr as it says it's security certificate has expired so I have put this on my family's website.
Second piece of news
The website at http://www.harrypotter.lego.com has been updated. It now has not just the completed characters page but a video (that has been buffering for 1/2 an hour for me) and a products page with animation and 360 degree view.

Posted by barrenaaron in United States, 01 Sep 2010 11:20

I just pre-ordered the HP sets from U.S. LEGO.com, I've been refreshing the page for the sets to go from "Not Available" to "Available for Pre-Order"... will ship by Sept 20th; about $350.00 with 10 VIP points and $5 coupon.
I don't understand how collectors are saying the sets are too expensive? Two of them are slightly inflated, and yes, not kid-friendly, as far as money in wallet goes. They did the same thing for the last HP5 collection of LEGO sets, no sets were below $20, no $5 - $15 range at all. 100 bricks = $10 roughly. So Hogwart's Castle with 1290 pieces is right on the mark at $130... The Burrow with 568 pieces is close to the $60 price-tag... the Hogwart's Express with 647 pieces is lightly inflated at $80; but it has a ton of mini-figs... not sure about Quidditch since the pieces weren't reported... Dobby's set is highly inflated with 73 bricks for $11... however, Hagrid's Hut has 442 pieces for the excellent deal of $40. I bought all of them, no question.

Posted by timberlake29 in United States, 01 Sep 2010 12:03

Ordered the castle, I had £20 of club card vouchers, you can exchange them for double value at tesco at the moment so I got £40 in vouchers. When you buy it online there are codes in the catalogue that give you £10 worth of vouchers when you spend over £75. So in total I got £100 set for £50, bargain!!!!

Posted by Matthew in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2010 13:27

They're listed as 'Sorry, Temporarily out of stock' now.
I was too late :-(

I just reordered mine on Lego.com. I may have to wait longer than the UK but at least I know I will get them and not have to keep going over to TRU to see if they are in yet. I also saved $5. from VIP points and free shipping!!!

Posted by Midnight in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2010 13:59

Missed out on ordering the Hogwarts Castle today. It was still in stock when I left home, but by the time I got to Tesco to order it 45 mins later they were out of stock... as you can imagine I wasn't happy!
Ended up heading to Bluewater to pick up the Kingdoms Advent Calendar instead. Think I'll just wait until the Lego store has the new Harry Potter sets in, at least I'll get VIP points that way!

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 01 Sep 2010 13:59

Just checked the tesco website and they are all tempory out of stock. shame looks like i will have to wait until october now [oh]

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 02 Sep 2010 00:14

So is Harry Potter as big or bigger in the UK then the US?

Posted by Matthew in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2010 06:12

@starfire2 How big is it in the US? Although since it started here it will always be big.

Posted by TheLEGOmaniac in Denmark, 02 Sep 2010 08:25

These are not supposed to be sold before October. The LEGO Company confirmed this to me, so they have most likely contacted Tesco about this.

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 02 Sep 2010 10:27

@Legocoastguard: It is pretty big out here as well. I know our family has been into it since the beginning.

Posted by finger2314 in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2010 12:44

Is the castle supposed to fold in on itself so it's really compact? it seems to have hinges between every section/ tower.

Posted by Matthew in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2010 15:26

@finger2314 There are 2 sections to it. There are photos at http://shop.lego.com/Product/AssetPopup.aspx?p=4842&AssetType=49&s_button=moreViews

Posted by finger2314 in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2010 16:44

@LegoCoastGuard: Are the two sections the Great hall and Dumbledores office/ the common room tower and the vanishing cabinet?
