Brickset.com now hosted on super-fast server

Today, Brickset was moved onto its own dedicated virtual server, a 2Gb Windows Server 2008R2 machine which should mean it's much faster and more secure, not that either of those were a problem on the old one, though.

There were a few issues during the transition as some of you have noticed. The mobile site was down for a few hours, the geo-locating didn't work and latest comment ages were a bit out. I think these are now all sorted but if you do notice anything strange anywhere, leave a comment and I'll try and sort it.

If you are looking for web hosting I can thoroughly recommend Northstar Computer Systems who host Brickset (and BrickLink) particularly for the stability of the service and first-rate technical support, where you talk to a real person, and the same one every time.

First of all if you are not logged in it says this post has one comment(before I posted this.)

That was probably because I posted a test one to check the time was being displayed properly then deleted it. On the old server there was about 4 minutes difference between the clocks on the database server and the web server so I had to hard-code a time offset to prevent negative times. Now they are pretty much the same so it's not needed.

Lol, somehow, having "Windows' and 'secure' in the same sentence just feels wrong...

Great news huw, have to agree with CaptainRex110, a smooth swamp using WIndows, have to say it must be a first,
lol ;-). Brickset is a great site and is always the first site I log into when I get to work.

@legowomen, that might be a cookie issue. I've reset the cookie name which should force everyone's location to be re-established. It caches it for a couple days normally.

I did experience log in problem and need to clear the cookies to get things working.

By the way, maintaining a web site effectively requires constant effort, I think it is pretty impressive to run a hgh traffic site like brickset with just 2GB
