I've added a number of old polybag sets to the database recently, including three today. Thanks to Dmitriy and Gena_A from doublebrick.ru in Russia for sending them to us. Normally, when we receive images for sets that we don't have in our database we can cross-check with BrickLink, Peeron or the Collector book to find out more about them, such as year of release.

However in this case, the three added today are not mentioned anywhere else. It's very unusual for them not to be at BrickLink in particular, so they really are ultra-rare. It wouldn't take much to re-constitute the sets from parts in your own collection, but even so, for the collector who has to have everything, these are going to be difficult to track down!

That mouse/seal/dog one is funny!

What an ugly mutant thing the dog is!

They might have been happy meal toys. I remember as a kid seeing poly bag Lego sets in happy meals. Circa 1987-88.

Wow wow!

If they were available in the USA in happy meals there's a fair chance they'd be listed on Bricklink: someone would have sold one at one time or another.

I remember those Happy Meal sets too. I haven't seen them anywhere though. I know at least one of them was a red airplane. 1987-1988 sounds about right for the timeframe.

I have some very similar polybags which, if I recall correctly, came from the very first advent calendar which was not sold in the US.

Adding to my comment above, looking at the set here:

it looks like the angel set is indeed the exact same as the one that came with that advent calendar. I am not sure if this is truly the original one since they tend to change theme over the years. Is there an all-advent-calendar bricklist?

what's that third alternate model in the picture supposed to be? It looks like 3 pieces just randomly stacked :/

I have no clue what 2877 is, but the one one the bottom looks like a boat

The origin of this sets seems to be Milky Way Promo in russian. From where does original year came from ? :)

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 22 Sep 2010 09:29

@tkf, I guessed it and made a note in the comments that it's unconfirmed. I can't leave it blank in the database.

@Huw, I think by the style they are closer to 1997 promo sets like 2876. ^_^
Sorry i'm not always reading notes. Not a very good habit.

I agree with tkf, because I faintly look at the photo of polybag of 2877, and find that the year is 1997.
Also the packaging style of 2842, 2875 and 2877 should be after 1996, because of the logo of suitable age in left bottom corner.

Nice find everyone. I have been looking for more info about these sets for ages... I can confirm that sets 1756-1, 1758-1, 1767-1, and 1828-1 are all part of a co-promotion with Milky Way, circa 1995. This info is based on a catalog that went with these sets. Hope that helps! :)
